  • Keeping your horses safe and sound is our #1 priority! In order to keep a safe work space though, sometimes we need to relax our clients a little more! In today's video, Lee Olsen goes over a method we use as a safe alternative to relaxing horses for a better, more comfortable shoeing experience!

I use that for a draft horse that won't stand still and jerks his foot away. Works like a charm!

I use Dorm gel when needed. It works great. It’s a great product 👍

That’s a really cool trick. I really like that. I had a Ferrier one time give a shot and one of my horses just to knock them out so they can put shoes on them and I told him I use quietex to keep them quiet so they could show him and he’s like no that stuff doesn’t work I’m just gonna give your horse a shot

Great tip. My mare stands fine for the farrier but the vet comes within sight and she is not having it 😂 Have to give her dorm gel and have a confident handler before you can give her a shot. Even is she is sedated from a float, she will turn and try to bite that needle at her neck 😅

It sure beats some of the horrible things I've seen in my life. Twitches, war bridles, twisting an ear, ropes, whips, straps etc. One farrier, if you can call him such, took his rasp and hit my horse in the belly for jumping when he trimmed him too short. It cut him. I assumed it nicked a vein because he bled a puddle the size of a dinner plate before I got the first aid kit. I was hard put not to take that rasp to him. Needless to say, he never set foot on my place again.

I had one quick my horse, and she exploded. Her feet were sore already, and he really hurt her. He blamed it on something in the barn that spooked her...she wasn't spooked she was injured badly. I fired him too! Now she is terrified of farriers, he really messed her up. Even with dorm gel, she won't let them near her fronts. It is awful.

@@chewar7537 I hope you can find a very patient farrier who can help her overcome her fear. It can be done, it just takes patience & work. I had a horse that was terrified of farriers. I worked with one who came weekly for a few months and did just a quick rasp on each hoof- with treats. Then we went to every two weeks, at least a rasp, sometimes a trim. Finally after several months and lots of treats he was able to trim and shoe her normally.

Great product for vets, shoers ,barefoot trimmers and dental providers...as well as a light ( smaller dose) for transporting

I thought this was going to be a good horsemanship video on preparing a horse for the farrier....epic fail here.
