I tried this but the bugs being attracted to the light had them swarming around my head. I found the front above the deck was a better option. I lost a lot light projection doing so but it was a fair trade iff to keep the bugs out of my eyes and nose.
I appreciate you explaining why you installed your own switch instead of using the pre-installed one. For everyone else asking, he already has a light bar installed on the front (where the default cut out is on the Spartan). This will be the second light bar installed on the mower. Just to be safe, he didn't want two 10 inch light bars running off the control panel as it might've drew too much current, risking damaging the control panel. I know some people have said two light bars won't draw too much current, but I agree with you here: 1. The control panel isn't designed to run two 10 - inch light bars (even if it might be able to do it) and; 2. That control panel is a $275 part. Can you really blame him for taking the much safer alternative for putting the second light on it's own relay and switch? Great video. Nice Tutorial!
First time seeing this. I'm definitely going to do it. It's horrendously hot in Georgia in the summer. It would be so nice to mow at night or before sunrise each mornig
I put a bicycle light on a push mower 60 years ago to mow after work, 1/2 acre, so I think it's great. The light on the front is all you need just to see where your going. But whatever. If you're mowing 6 acres you need a 6-8' foot finish mower on the back of the tractor. It will beat the devil out of the zero turn. You need a bagger on that mower cause I think that stuff is legal just about everywhere now. Yell man, bag it man, sell that stuff make some money man. Take care, later, stay safe.
It’s not a perfect fit but this is the one I used. www.ebay.com/itm/265376530657?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=fFWm4uPURp2&sssrc=2349624&ssuid=KOkAtvQhSm-&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY
You’re crazy. Turned out pretty cool however I would add some of the little square directional LED’s at the front corners of your mower so you can increase the radius of the light. Maybe you can see just fine in person but in the video I wanted to see a wider path.
@@hickoryridgehomestead9177 If you are using a relay, the amps go through the relay and not the switch. The switch’s job is to energize the relay which then powers the light bar. The original switch would have worked just fine. Relays don’t require much amps to be energized.
And I do look forward to your videos I'm enjoying your progress, and I'm Amazed at the genius way you come up with doing things by yourself I have to do a lot of those things myself although I do have a wife that helps out an awful lot
@@hickoryridgehomestead9177 the only draw you would be adding would be that of the relay which is next to nothing. That’s the entire concept behind a relay in this situation.

Love it!!! Thanks for sharing the how to! I want to do this on my Scag mower!
It works great

I am in Florida and considering a fan lol
You certainly are a talented person.
Cool man . Nice to meet you at bobblehead homestead today.
It was great to meet you guys too!!
What about the draw on the battery? Generally alternators on mowers barely put out enough amps to keep battery charged as it is.
Thanks for sharing brother. Watch for snakes! To the guy who said bag it. I say mulch it. ;-)

Can you add a link to the light bars you used? I can't find a generic 10" light bar to mount into the designated spot for OEM light placement.
It’s not a perfect fit but this is the one I used.

Do anybody know the amperage of the factory light hookup on the mower
Very nice job. Just don't forget to eat and rest during all this working day and night.

the video wouldnt pick up all the light. It is almost like driving around in the day time.
That’s great.
Did you not know the Spartans com pre wired for lights ? The pig tail is zip tied out of the way .
yes but the added light bar draws too much currant I and didnt want to damage the circuit board
Did you even watch the video?

It was already wired for light's the plug was under the seat
It was but the panel is only rated for the single light. The overhead light bar pulled too much amperage combined with the other one.
@@hickoryridgehomestead9177 Why not use the factory switch and wires to feed the relay and thus you don't need a separate switch?
@@kirkkw plus LED lights pull hardly ANY amperage at all anyway. I'll be using the factory switch on mine.
A link to this kit you bought?
I'm about to buy the srt hd 54 inch how is it working out for you so far?
Better have a bug face shield on cuz they're going to tear you up

Hey Hickory Ridge Homestead do you like the Spartan or would you recommend something else ?
I really like it. It’s been a great mower over the last few years and it’s one of the most comfortable mowers I’ve been on.
Can you still fold down the ROB
Yes you can.
Isn't there already a button wired up??
Yes there is but I was afraid to burn up the circuit board with the extra amp draw
@@hickoryridgehomestead9177 the only draw you would be adding would be that of the relay which is next to nothing. That’s the entire concept behind a relay in this situation.
are you on the grid
I am for now but I hope to be completely off the electric grid in the future.
Now u can’t fold down your roll bar safely with the wired in it
Great
does the relay have a fuse if not add one
The fuse is right at the positive terminal.
What size lighy bar is this?
The top is a 24” light bar from eBay
What model relay did you use?
It was a light bar relay kit from Tractor supply.
@@hickoryridgehomestead9177 pardon my ignorance but what and why do you need a relay? Thanks
@@howardmoody9379 the relay is there to keep from pulling too much current through the switch
Nice video
Running the relay eliminates the need for a high amperage switch.
What would you not use the regular plug and did you don't have to drill a hole you just use the regular switch why did you do it the hard way LOL

six acres? I mow 25
I also have around 200 trees to mow around. The rest of my property I use a tractor. I keep 300 mowed in total
