@Insidious Sid I get so tired of the so&so is better than so&so,I always tell them who's the best is who YOU like best ,it ain't a competition.ozzy is ozzy and randy was randy and I've been immensely entertained by both.
Nunya Business Yes it is my friend!!! If you like the Heaven and hell album you must listen to - The devil You know by Heaven And Hell. Which is the same band under a different name. Probably a very close 2nd. Surprisingly some have never heard it. 🤘🏻👺🎸
I'm a big Ozzy Osbourne fan but I'm not deaf or stupid. Ronnie James Dio is one of the best metal singers who ever lived. And as for Tony Iommi, in my opinion he's the best heavy metal guitarist ever
sean goodwin I think that Dio was a great addition and was awesome but like BS better with Ozzy because the industrial sound of his voice goes perfectly with the darkness of the music, and I've been a fan since the beginning and was there when my older brother sliced open their first LP BS in 70. Tony plays with surgical precision and is one of the greatest ever, that I do agree on. I actually think that Vinny Appice is an excellent drummer to, much like his older brother Carmine and are very talented drummers. and I don't need to even question the skill level and excellence of Butler's play, he's one of the best thumper's ever and the songwriter in the band and it was all his genius
Ronnie's voice is multi- dimensional, as Tony Iommi can project with his guitar!Black Sabbath forever man, I mean they are DARK when we need darkness and powerful when we are down.Great music that we keep near and dear! RIP RJD, you are the Malocchio(Father of the Sign) of Metal !
RIP dear Ronnie and thank you for pulling the veil off this world and revealing it's truly evil core. May God recognize your contribution to humanity and eternally bless you brother.
It's the fate of being a bass player. Most attention "from the public" go to those who draw most attention, being the singer and the guitarist(s). Unless your name is "Flea" you're convicted to get less attention as a bassplayer.
"Lonely is the Word" is one of the most underrated Black Sabbath songs. It is so moving and powerful. The lyrics are devastating. They remind me of the lyrics in "Wheels of Confusion." "It's a long way to nowhere; And I'm leaving very soon" "Lonely is the word; Got to be the saddest song I've ever heard" "Lonely is the name; Maybe life's a losing game"
James...You are absolutely right mate...all this while I thought I was the only one thinking how underrated this great song was... cheers from Malaysia
This was just before Ronnie was diagnosed with stomach cancer. In spite of his health he still put out some excellent vocals live. God bless his memory.
I've been listening to this song since I was around 12-13. This lyric *always* gets me. Every time. Harder than any other. Incredible in its simplicity.
from 3.30 i can not stop crying. what a solo, what a feelings come out of iommi's fingers. one of the best songs i have ever heard. at the end when ronnie says the last "lonely is the word", it is impossible to describe what he generates, rest in peace little giant.
This one and Over and Over(Mob Rules)really capture a mood , one of despair, Melancholia ,the human condition. Just brilliant use of music , melody and lyrics, to paint onto the canvas of the human soul,
Richard Alpert I was lucky to have seen them on this tour in Sydney. They were so good, as if time had stopped since they recorded the songs. Mind blowing time travel.
Never has there been a more influential band to the genre of metal. It seems like every song spawned it’s own sub genre & we get to enjoy these bands today. Legendary
dude, thats the worst possible thing to say. completely different stuff. Love Johnny and Tony (saw both of them live), but there's no comparisson whatsoever.
This song always gave me goose bumps. Ronnie singing here is simply amazing. Tony plays a fantastic solo. Geezer and Vinnie: a perfect rythm session. I love it
It's a long way to nowhere And I'm leaving very soon On the way we pass so close To the back side of the moon Hey join the traveler if you got nowhere to go Hang your head and take my hand It's the only road I know Oh, lonely is the word, yeah yeah yeah I've been higher than stardust I've been seen upon the sun I used to count in millions then But now I only count in one Come on, join the traveler If you got nowhere to go Hang your head and take my hand It's the only road I know Yeah, lonely is the word Got to be the saddest song I ever heard Yeah, lonely is the name Maybe life's a losing game
One of the best lineups in History, absolutely incredible. Saw the original tour, I was so mad they got rid of Ozzy, I wasn't expecting much, they blew me away and won me over.
WHat a fucking sound. They all sound absolutely fucking briliand, excelent voice (Dio you are being missed very very much.) Tony Iommi emotional solos, Geez having good time with his bass guitar.. Bill Ward missing ok, but Appice did great job, very good drums, it just all sounds great, its the Black Sabbath sound, nobody will ever have that again, not even close to it. Its not about dio, or tony or anybody else. Its all because they are together. I can't even listen to this masterpieces anymore (mean other songs as well, not only this one) where Dio sings, because I feel depressed and doomed because Dio is dead. Black Sabbath music even with ozzy makes me feel very bad as I realized its all gone. Its gone forever. Im just so sad I cant even explain myself. I just can't do it anymore but still. I will. and Im gonna feel like shit all the time but FUCK I will not stop listen to this band. Magical sound which cannot be explained. Cannot be replaced.
What an album. Black Sabbath is a unique band in that it created its own genre that many followed. Dio vocals is elite. The riffs and chops of Tony are sublime - solos are so well crafted. I grew up with Heaven and Hell blaring from my cassette deck
this must be one of the best songs sever. About loneliness and desolation. Dio as we knew him great lyrics and performance . The only singer who could outshine Blackmore!
I was at this concert at RCMH NYC, And saw them 2 more times after in Florida! Glad i was able to witness the Magic of Dio many times in his career and 3 times right before he passed away!! His voice, stage presence and this Line up was SUBLIME!
ONE of my favorite Sabbath songs , when im in a mellow mood..love the riff..and Ronnies vocals..everything about it. Classic dio era. Join the Traveller!
This song has meant a great deal to me for over forty years now. One thing I would say about it is that it deeply reflects life from a MALE perspective: on the whole Heavy Rock is about being male so it's not surprising that most Heavy Rock fans are male like me. I think this is a very emotional song about being male.
Heaven and hell is a perfect album. Not one bad song.
and so is the mob rules, Dehumanizer and the devil you know! Sure heaven and hell is superior to all but others arent that far away
"Heaven and Hell" has to be one of the best rock albums of all time.
It definitely Is
I feel the same, and well said Insidious Sid.
Nunya Business my personal favorite

Amen to that
RIP dear Ronnie and thank you for pulling the veil off this world and revealing it's truly evil core. May God recognize your contribution to humanity and eternally bless you brother.
Geezer sounding pretty awesome here. Nobody mentioning him.
Geezer Rips especially Sign Of The Southern Cross!!!
Geezer is a big part of the Sabbath sound.
Geezer inspired me to pick up a bass. He’s one of the best!
It's the fate of being a bass player. Most attention "from the public" go to those who draw most attention, being the singer and the guitarist(s). Unless your name is "Flea" you're convicted to get less attention as a bassplayer.
Totally! One of the best rock bass players

dio has to be the best metal voice ever !
"Maybe life's a losing game" One of the best and haunting metal lyrics ever!!
Yed
I've been listening to this song since I was around 12-13. This lyric *always* gets me. Every time. Harder than any other. Incredible in its simplicity.
This has gotta be the most amazing guitar solo Iommi ever put his soul into
And this is the live version, cut short... the studio version is just so much more brilliant!
I AGREE...MY FAVORITE
for me this is the best track on the heaven and hell album, best riff and amazing guitar solo.
Tony Smith a totally dreamy song..
Die young for sheer energy
Dio's vocal and Iommi's guitar in this song make me cry. Magnificent music!
Totally with you on that , absolutely amazing singer and showman
Ozzy for showmanship. Ronnie for vocal talent.
I'm convinced, Tony has absolutely the best guitar sound for rock or metal possible. Sorry, the rest of you got oh so close.
My face is like "heaven and hell" while listening to this song.
The day Ronnie passed the world lost one of the greatest talents ever! LONG FUCKING LIVE RONNIE JAMES DIO! MISS YOU BROTHER!
RJD was phenomenal. What a presence. didn't matter what band he was in.. just iconic.
The album Heaven and Hell threw me off my orbit in 1980. Still gives me the feeling of floating in space.
from 3.30 i can not stop crying. what a solo, what a feelings come out of iommi's fingers. one of the best songs i have ever heard.
at the end when ronnie says the last "lonely is the word", it is impossible to describe what he generates, rest in peace little giant.
Right on brother, I am with you on this one, same here literally word by word is the truth
Been a Sabbath, Ozzy & Dio fan for over 45 years and this is the absolute pinnacle of the dynasty.
I'm 54 old. Big fan Dio. Over 38 years .amazing vocalist.
True sabbath fans love both Ozzy and Dio 🤟
Every time Dio sang, he was like Saruman The White. Casting a spell on the audience with his voice. Ensnaring them with his majestic storytelling.
more like Saruman of many colors....
Beautiful!
This one and Over and Over(Mob Rules)really capture a mood , one of despair, Melancholia ,the human condition. Just brilliant use of music , melody and lyrics, to paint onto the canvas of the human soul,
Geezer's bass playing tied it all together for this band as well!
Geezer played his bass like a second lead guitar
@@pauldavies8638 He is the reason I love the bass. Sabbath is the reason I love metal...
@@eruiluvataarv.6485 Great stuff spread the word
Imagine looking at this live. Those Tony Iommi solos would surely make anybody cry.
Richard Alpert I was lucky to have seen them on this tour in Sydney. They were so good, as if time had stopped since they recorded the songs. Mind blowing time travel.
I did at deeside leisure centre in early 80s they were spot on we all wanted ozzy on the way there on the way back ozzy was forgotten

I like how drummer did his work. Excellent!
I love his Drumming but I still feel Bill Ward Plays this song better
This song is my epitaph...
Dio is a brilliant singer to say the least.
It just doesn't get any better than this. 🤘
I was at this show, My pop was the Elevator supervisor.I watched this from above the stage.
You lucky bastard

Never has there been a more influential band to the genre of metal. It seems like every song spawned it’s own sub genre & we get to enjoy these bands today. Legendary

Black Sabbath, Heaven & Hell; Godfather's of metal! This is were it all started!...…..Period!
Sound of Tony Iommi's guitar is magic ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Ronnies range in this video proves that he was one of the best until the day he died. RIP man on the silver mountain.

Who ever mixed this band and printed to dvd or whatever IS a true master of audio mastering and capture!
My favourite heaven and hell album song! Awesome rendition!

dude, thats the worst possible thing to say. completely different stuff. Love Johnny and Tony (saw both of them live), but there's no comparisson whatsoever.
I like johhny man, that blues speed riffing is very cool
No, that would be 'Lonely Is The Word', just as the uploader titled it. ;)
This song always gave me goose bumps. Ronnie singing here is simply amazing. Tony plays a fantastic solo. Geezer and Vinnie: a perfect rythm session. I love it
Best song by sabbath and what a great guitar tone
I can’t get enough of this, his voice, the solo, the riff, drums and oh my god that BASS!!!
It's a long way to nowhere
And I'm leaving very soon
On the way we pass so close
To the back side of the moon
Hey join the traveler if you got nowhere to go
Hang your head and take my hand
It's the only road I know
Oh, lonely is the word, yeah yeah yeah
I've been higher than stardust
I've been seen upon the sun
I used to count in millions then
But now I only count in one
Come on, join the traveler
If you got nowhere to go
Hang your head and take my hand
It's the only road I know
Yeah, lonely is the word
Got to be the saddest song I ever heard
Yeah, lonely is the name
Maybe life's a losing game
I THINK ITS ONE OF THE GREATEST SOLOS OF MASTER TONY IOMMI. IN MY OPINION.
What a beast of a track.
After the title track this song is a close second for best track on the album.
One of the best lineups in History, absolutely incredible. Saw the original tour, I was so mad they got rid of Ozzy, I wasn't expecting much, they blew me away and won me over.
