Classic over the back flagrant call by our wonderful refs here in the big ten.
The quality of the broadcast video was really subpar. I expected high level but it was like B10 student video a lot in that first half
couldn't get their act together to show the game or shot clock...also, what's the deal with all of these broadcasts not showing meaningful stats like turnover counts, number of fouls per player, and rebounding numbers? it's like the broadcast is only for the announcers and not the viewing audience, geeze!

Purdue has a real home court problem. We under utilize our fans. At times, Mackey can be extremely loud and intimidating. But then we shoot ourselves in the foot at time outs by playing the shell game on the jumbotron or playing such cute but inappropriate songs that are more akin to a summertime stroll in the garden than they are motivational rock anthems to fire up the crowd and intimidate the opposing team. Are you listening Bobinski?

I didn’t see the game & it wasn’t shown in the highlights… but does anyone know if Illinois was able to come back bc Purdue’s Gs are still unable to beat a full court press? That’s my guess anyway. 🤷♂️
I was at the game. IL didn't press until Purdue's final 2 or 3 possessions of the game. It wasn't any one thing I could put my finger on. Maybe some sloppy play. Maybe getting too comfortable with a large lead. Maybe Edey sitting on the bench with foul trouble. Maybe the IL 3 point shooters finally finding the bucket. Maybe because at time outs Purdue's pep band plays momentum killer songs like "Living on a Prayer" and "Hey Baby"!!!! You know, those songs that really make you want to stomp the other team.

The game wasn't close. Purdue was in control the entire game and held the lead in double digits up 20+ for most of the game. This was without Edey as the refs put Edey on the bench immediately. They also served up a bogus flagrant on Lance Jones when the Illinois player went over his back late in the game to make it appear close.
Long story short, Purdue didn't make its foul shots to keep the double digit win. The missed the front end of 1-1's and Illinois made some 3's to make it appear closer than it was.
Illinois fans were talking all day how Purdue would get whipped. Now they are blaming the refs (even though the refs shilled for them in Mackey) and saying we should be scared because Shannon was out.
I'm not scared unless they bring back that crew to call the game. Shannon will only serve to take away shots from Domask or others.

Purdue dominated on the boards and that is the single most telling stat. Shannon will have ZERO impact in that stat and Illinois was better off without him.

The real bullcrap is speculating "if this and if that." If Terrance played, maybe Domask wouldn't have been as accurate as he was. Maybe Edey wouldn't have gotten in foul trouble and had to sit out a big chunk of the game. Maybe Purdue wouldn't have turned over the ball as much as they did near the end, or gotten the flagrant foul that gave Illinois 2 free points. The truth is that when two good teams play against each other, anything can happen. Maybe Illinois will win the rematch in Champaign.

We almost blew you out by more than 20, but some missed 1-1s, a garbage flagrant, some desperation 3's made the game seem close.
It.NEVER.WAS. Purdue controlled this game from start to finish. They looked the stronger team.
Purdue won this game on the glass and Shannon isn't the answer to Purdue's superior front court.
Purdue won boards 45 to 31 and that was without Edey in most of the game. If I were an Illinois fan I'd pay more attention to the box score. Illinois shot a high % but ultimately this game was decided in the paint. I don't see how they address that gap easily.
