    Fnally a doctor that understands me! I've been researching for a while because doctors just want to take more teeth out to "fix" me. I need this procedure done but I can't afford it. I wishhh so bad that more doctors knew this so we could all have the opportunity to keep our life given right of having our teeth! I'm so sad that this happens to people every day, it should be a crime!

I wish you the best of luck!

      @@hughgraze I didn’t get the spaces opened in the end. I went to another orthodontist who realigned my bite with the spaces still closed. My bite isn’t optimal but it is functional and much better. I’m 20 years old now and haven’t had many jaw problems since. Every case is different of course. After so much orthodontic treatment and the resultant root resorption of my teeth, further orthodontic work to reopen the spaces was not feasible. My result is still stable however. I do think it is possible to achieve a stable bite with the spaces closed and the right orthodontist if space opening isn’t an option.

    I have missing lateral incisors and had the spaces closed. It caused me hell: muscle pain, TMJ pain, it gave me an open bite, retracted my upper jaw, collapsed my upper palate and makes my face so dished in. My teeth are so retracted and don't even look good. Thankfully, after visiting ten orthodontists (who all denied there was a problem, or that orthodontics affects the face) I found an orthopaedic orthodontist like yourself. I'm 15 and getting a face mask, removable appliance and damon! :)

    How would this treatment work if the four teeth removed were wisdom teeth? I had all four wisdom teeth removed one year before retractive orthodontics, the orthodontist wanted to take a further two teeth out before I started treatment but thankfully I refused to have any more healthy teeth pulled. This has had a huge impact on my health and my face. Really keen to know what treatment would be suggested in my case.

    I wish I did know of someone to do this in the Midwest, but I don't. In fact, I have someone flying from IA to CA for me to re-open her extraction spaces! • @AcousticAnthony
    @AcousticAnthony 11 ปีที่แล้ว +11

    Yes, I'm having the spaces re-opened. I think it's an ALF appliance I'm getting with omega loops. The headgear is reverse-pull so it advances the maxilla right forward considering I had about 12mm of space retracted back.My new orthodontist has shown where my mandible should be so we're going to try and get the maxilla to match up with that. Once the orthopaedic stage has been completed, i'll have damon to tidy things up and open the spaces more. I'm 15 atm, will this still work?

      @AcousticAnthony 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@centelliaassiatica2194 We managed to open two wide spaces and I easily have enough room for implants but I chose Maryland bridges instead. My health is much improved and my appearance is better but I do now have some gum recession from the extensive orthodontic treatment and the bone of my maxilla never moved, only the teeth, but this still helped aesthetically and functionally. I may consider surgery in future years to solve my bimax recession but I am focusing on other areas of my life for the time being.

      @@AcousticAnthony Hey how are you? Hopefully all has been fine with you.
      But I been wondering about the cost of this procedure. May I ask is it expensive? Did you or your parents have to pay out of pocket?
      I also wanted to ask for the length of the procedure. Like how did you take for your spaces to be reopened?
      and finally would you happen to know the location to where you had went to for your procedure?
      I’m sorry and I know its a lot to read, but I had my 4 teeth pulled out for braces when I was just 15, and now im 20 and I just feel like I dont look the same anymore.

    Is there a way to cover up spaces only on my upper premolars extraction sites. My lower ones are already closed. Meanwhile upper jaw still have spaces left on both sides. Will it create any problem? Am still undergoing my braces treatment and came across the after effects of it

  • @RS54321
    @RS54321 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    One might not 'die' of gum recession (and bone loss), but it's a devastating disease and it affects mental health greatly.

    • @Retrofire-47
      @Retrofire-47 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Agreed.
      our persona is largely superficial - our appearance. I read a story recently about a young woman who received an insane amount of male [and female] attention in grade school... until abruptly men and women alike shunned her entirely..? So, it turns out after her premolars were extracted it deformed her face.

    • @Retrofire-47
      @Retrofire-47 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      that is to say... that "oh, you'll get over it" is kind of hogwash.
      Our appearance greatly influences our status in society.. And since our identity is largely a social product, even a modest deformation of our appearance will change how we view ourselves, too.

    What type of treatment he used to reopen her extraction spaces? Did he mechanically push the teeth forward? Because I don't think he would able to grow more bone for the maxillary and mandible to have all the 32 teeth

  • @joyb7168
    @joyb7168 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Question: My othro says he only needs to open up the space on the top where two extractions were done, but not fix the bottom teeth where teeth were also extracted...claiming the bottom jaw will just follow the top jaw out.. Does that sound weird to you?

    • @mikjnomis
      @mikjnomis 6 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      No it doesn't sound weird to me, I've read and heard that as well especially from orthotropics by Mike Mew. I believe the explanation is that the lower jaw is always wanting to grow forward as it naturally should have, but the upper teeth prevented it from doing so, since as we know the lower teeth fits behind the upper. Thus when you expand your arch and to reopen the extraction sites, now there is space between the upper and lower row and the lower jaw is able to grow forward. Plus, your bite will change. With the new bite, there will be forces that pull your jaw to grow in the new direction following the forward change in the upper arch so I believe that's a poor explanation of what your orthodontist might be thinking.

    • @Sariine436
      @Sariine436 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@mikjnomis I saw a new ortho and she wants to give me an applience to fix my bite on how it should be because I got tmj from retraction. She never told me the name but it's about 114 dollars. she also told me that it would close my gaps I have from the extractions.
      I don't know if I trust her.
