This is the mature take on the situation. Because it reflects acceptance, and not blindly fighting anyone who critisizes us. This is a common problem that I see in India.

I would rather say it's a colonial mentality of indians who thinks if white christian missionaries/westerners criticize us then they must be right, this thought process is obnoxious & pernicious among indians, the issue with indians is that whatever westerners/west say against Indians, indians tend to blindly follow their claims to be right & have tendency to prove westerners that westerners are right to criticize india/indians

I AM AN INDIAN AND YOU ARE ABSOLUTELY RIGHT. I did the same thing. I was building my own product where i used one open source library. I felt a need to have some features in library and then started to contribute.
I have also started live coding streams where I work on developing different things live. Currently I have started with same open source project i am talking about. Afterwards I am planning to develop video streaming backends and much more.

Let me tell you the problem with Indian software engineering scene
    1. Aspirants with 400+ leetcode question solver tag under their name, who are absolute zero when it comes to creativity and projects.
    2. Aspirants who do all kinds of projects they find on the internet. Their projects have a 5 second load time, with each and every node plugin you can imagine. They Have no knowledge of how these technologies are built, no knowledge of language internals.
    3. Ones that learn all kinds of front end technology that are trendy with no sense of direction.
    4. Institutes like scaler, coding ninja. Which charge laksha laksha for the mediocrity they strive for.
    5. Service based companies.
    Etc etc...
Mediocrity is the root of all problems.

There is a task involving fetching device location in the background, and there's a paid npm package available for it. I'm creating the same functionality as open source - I've completed it for the iOS platform, and the Android part is pending. Currently i only know the React Native and Swift iOS part that’s why i easily created npm package for ios with react native i will also done this for android platform after learn the android development.

Aisa nahi ki Readme file pe steps likhna ya details ko difference dikhana ==> Coders ka kaam toh bas build, test n deploy n maintain pe har waqt rehna chaiye. Rather not to be on recognition, prizes, or being 1st todo etc etc as it leads to half way job and that is not required nor the ask. Aapne achha baat share kiya 👍🏻

These are the same people who proudly joke about lying in their resumes and getting a job. I had been feeling down because of not being able to contribute to open source because the projects I'm interested in are far too complex for my skills atm. I don't want to be labelled with these guys with I finally make my first PR. There needs to be a shift in the community where we ignore the words of people who don't understand about this field, because ultimately these things happen becuase everyone thinks others only care about your job and that's what everyone will ask. Im a manager and this is not new. Back in 2013 I was in UK and working for a major retailer. Most Indian IT guys used to commit absolute BS with no version control which just made managing it all a big problem. And when I came back to India, I was in one of the Big 4 and they had put a email saying free tshirts and merchandise like mugs etc. I havent seen more embarrassing visual. People in the office were taking 10s of Tshirts and as many mugs as possible. Behaving like refugees waiting for food. Look at the behaviour of our people when they go for client parties. They drink as if no tomorrow, get drunk, behave like absolute aholes in front of the client.

And it's not with one there are many other friends of mine who reported how toxic work culture is. One of the hr told my other friend that he was lucky that they hired him from a 3rd tier college 😢 else he would be jobless. Total bs. I am an Indian. And there is no shame in accepting that many(if not all) of the Indian programmers are just wannabes. They don't have a real interest in computer science or programming in general. But still they choose it as a career as "IT is the future". You see, Indian youtubers are teaching programming to the whole world, still we don't have reasonable number of cool awesome open source projects, great research papers etc. Why is that?
Just go to a top tier college, you will see that the students don't know the real world significance of any of the concepts taught to them, but hey, they know 10 different types of sorting algorithms and the difference between them.

It's definitely not their mistake, some indians lack social awareness, they tend to do some awkward shit at places where they are not supposed to interfere in the first place. No indian youtuber has ever recommended people to fix typos or beg maintainers to merge their PR in an OS, it's just that some of us lack the common sense to realize that fixing typos doesn't secure them a 2-3 crore package.

Sir, before watching your videos I was solely focusing on placement packages that I just have to get package with bare minimum knowledge. But after watching your videos I have come to know the essence of computer science itself . I have started to enjoy college subjects as well because I have started to see them from a point of knowledge and not a point of just passing or for attendance and today, this open source video opened my eyes once again. I haven’t seen any other youtuber who is talking about India at a community level. You are teaching software engineering in it’s essence not just a mere language.

Iss situation ke liye bohot had tak hamare Indian TH-camrs bhi responsible hai. India me freshers ko job milan bohot hi mushkil hai or issi situation ko youtubers ne bohot exploit kiya hai. Jaha dekho waha ya to DS Algo ke courses hai ye phir kisne kitne ka pakage crack kiya hai bus yahi bate chalti hai hamari youtube community me. Indians programming ko enjoy nahi karte. Ye bus sab ke liye ye ek job pane ka medium hai. Sabne milkar Open Source ko bas job or freelancing tak restrict kar diya hai. or agar yahi hal raha to wo din dur nahi jab opensource communities Indians ko permanently BAN kardengi.

Influencers are to be blamed for a lot of this. We are always looking for a grand fix to all of our problems and announcing it on social media and every other flocks to it.
It even hurts skilled developers who might not get a chance to showcase their skills. We need to build more.

So people start preparing for govt exams don't matter in which background you are in. Every job other than govt job is not stable and you have to tolarate immense pressure to do that job so preparing for govt job way more easy. After you getting any gov job you can start preparing for upsc and if your luck good then you will become ips or ias and after that you life will be settled. You don't have to fear about anything and do whatever thing you want to do!!!
