Bro could you make a series of some sort, where you go over random opensource projects, and show us how you read the huge codebases, how you debug, how you fix stuff and things like that, it'll be a great series as no one on YT has content like this.
Unlike other click baits you share real knowledge, This is really helpful man! First video of yours I watched was of using terminal to do most of the things, I have started using terminal and different editors I can see it’s helping a lot to stand out.
This is extremely motivating and yes we want to know about how to understand big code bases and not get scared from different languages and libraries being used, also the correct way to make pull requests.
I realise this comment is from a few months ago but I recently built a tool where you can enter an issue/PR and get an AI-generated summary of all code changes that occurred. I personally found this a very useful way to learn a new codebase. Tool is still in beta but would love to share and get feedback
After about 9years in the IT industry and using a lot of open source software... I am now seriously thinking of contributing back to open source. Thank you for the video. I will follow your next videos more seriously.

that's amazing ! Thank you for sharing you journey Harkirat and looking forward to upcoming videos (will watch them for sure) keep making quality videos like this !
7:05 Harkirat can you please do a video around this issue ? Understanding a large codebase can be challenging. Would really appreciate if you can give a walkthrough. thank you for the video. good work 👍
Honestly there is no actual guide to tackle the challenges of a large codebase. In fact, in various startups they don't even maintain a pattern. The best thing you can do is to learn how to navigate through the code, to find what you want, and working on your tasks without getting intrigued by the vastness of the code. This only comes with practice
Waiting for the next series of Videos on Open Source Contributions. Please tell us how to ask good questions before or while contributing to any issue, what are the best practices while contributing to Open Source. Also it will be great if you make a video where you will choose an organisation (what is the whole process of choosing an organisation) on GSOC and show us all the steps and contribute to an issue and make PR i.e. I am talking about a full fledged guide to contribute to Open Source, especially GSOC.
bro this is really motivational video i really liked your video no one promotes this much about open source i really look forward to watch your open source contribution and congratulation for Backpack
Literally the best ever straight to the point guidance, no controversy, no selling useless courses, no pride and only to help out students and people. Whenever i am consfused or worried in life i look at harkirat sir's journey. Hitesh chaudhary sir and Harkirat sir are the best mentors i have and couldn't thank them enough for the work they are doing.
Hey, Its so nice to see someone paving the path of the mysterious terms that we always here. Every body have said do open source contributions but none I know have never said how to actually do it . thanks man!
this gave chilling motivation, my boss(kinda) too mentioned me once in a podcast XD that was a great feeling, looking forward to implement all the tips you gave. Thanks for the amazing work.
I have started watching your videos since the past 2 weeks. I absolutely love your videos. Currently, i am working on the WEB3 assignment-1. ❤ from Odisha
This video was very informative, but could you make another one on open source contribution? Specifically, on how a beginner should start by reading large codebases, understanding issues, and solving them. This would be really helpful for people who want to get into open source but don't know where or how to start. If you have the time, could you also consider starting a bootcamp that covers everything from the beginning to the end, including web 3 and contributions? I understand that it might not get as many views as content on data structures and algorithms, but it would definitely be helpful for those who want to get into open source😅
@@rajkrishanmahajan2373 its not all in one video. start with the video titled 'how to understand large codebases'. rest you'll find as u go through his channel
Sold man, I Love you and the guidance you are giving. Just 1 Question: How did you end up knowing/finding that a company goes open source OR Find the right company to contribute in the open source world. Keep up the great work, I don't doubt you will be big real soon. 😇😇😇
Open Source changed my life also and keeps doing so! I can't wait to share some amazing business news in about 1 week because of Open Source! Great video, let's get everyone to accelerate their career with open source!
Hi Harkirat, Awesome video. Could you make videos on how you decide which projects to contribute to. Which language you contribute ? Complexity of the contributions, like do you have to build sophisticated modules to get noticed. And how to maintain an active GitHub profile. As no other developers makes videos on these area at least not hands-on. Can you show live commits live coding etc. Thank you! Again you are an inspiration to me and consider one among tech mentors in TH-cam.
congrats bro, 1 week after watching this video, I made 5 PRs into 2 opensource projects. and it was an interesting experience, mind-blowing when reading people's code, also gained so many connections. thank you again !
What we are watching is his 15 minutes of advice about open source .. What we haven't watched is his 5 years of consistent hard work /smart work that's the big deal.
