I think it's odd how music can come at some point in your life that seems to correlate your own issues with what is being sung about. That is this song for me for sure.
Matt Vukovic TH-cam suggestions helps a lot. If you’re not careful it can send you into an even worse downward spiral that’s hard to escape. Have to pull yourself away and break free during hard times but other than that it’s the best thing that’s happened as far as finding new music that fits your taste
I relate to this song so much . I was with her for 10 years . We share a son . I took her for granted . After 10 years I finally proposed because I felt I was losing her. The more I listen to this song it's become my favorite. I like it better than Strangers and even History of Violence. I like the melody, and the sentiment. Like all your songs, the music theory matches your lyrics. Your use of syncopation, chord resolution (or not resolving in History of Violence), or just a dead rest at the perfect time, it provides a subtext for the lyrics you've written. I'm glad I have enough knowledge of music theory and training to recognize it because I think it's totally unintentional. Or, if it is intentional, it shows how much effort you put into composition. I think the whiners ("I miss the old TOAD") don't have the ability to recognize the true growth and evolution your new sound displays. And I don't think a band member will even see this since they don't seem to need affirmation from the comments section of TH-cam or any other social media. You're always great in concert and I will continue to travel to see you when you don't make it to my neck of the woods. I also like your ever changing touring schedule--it's like you're trying to visit different cities each tour. You keep your venues small and personal and your ticket prices low. If you were selling out, you would go for larger venues and hike your prices. Your VIP packages have been the same price since I began following you, too. Thank you, Tyler, Dean, Joe, and Dave. Good damn this is such a strong song. It shows just how good this group is that they are able to switch between silly like crazy girlfriend and lowlife and the serious deep stuff like rx world keeps spinning and this and hold both styles firmly giving both serious focus and respect. This guy is one of those who are born to be a singer. I wish i had more words to give for the feelings he and this group give me but really i don't. This whole album is just gold.

But he's also tackling very political topics which are sad, like how divided we are because of hate. How sad it is we send women to prison for self defense and I think a larger (but subtle) statement on how bad the prison system is in general and how many are in but should not be.

Honestly for me the sound is more important than the lyrics as I generally listen to music while doing other stuff. Also just because you get older doesn't mean your sound has to get softer, there are many bands with old members still doing rock and metal.

A TOAD fan here: I see what you mean and, personally, I am not negative to new modern sounds (the exact opposite). However, in my humble opinion, when they are self-defined as a rock (not pop) band, they should maintain some rudimentary elements (hard vocals, guitars, riffs) while incorporating new trends. So, I am in favor of the evolution of a band as long as its rock identity doesn't disappear.
I think thats the reason for the new stuff, to continue the unique feel of each song. Stone temple pilots used to give every album its own kind of feel and style, I think thats what theorh is doing change the style a little each time to convey a new mood and keep the songs coming from the heart.
@Vlad the Inhaler that all depends on what you think is good and bad music wise. Some people would say this is a great song. Personally i liked the old ones better but feel that this has some musical quality to it, plus half the album isnt out yet so the songs might get better.

A TOAD fan here: I see what you mean and, personally, I am not negative to new modern sounds (the exact opposite). However, in my humble opinion, when they are self-defined as a rock (not pop) band, they should maintain some rudimentary elements (hard vocals, guitars, riffs) while incorporating new trends. So, I am in favor of the evolution of a band as long as its rock identity doesn't disappear.
Ita not about "haters" its about ROCK ..they are NOT anymore.
I like their new stuff but their old stuff was just so much better. It just felt unique and interesting.
I think thats the reason for the new stuff, to continue the unique feel of each song. Stone temple pilots used to give every album its own kind of feel and style, I think thats what theorh is doing change the style a little each time to convey a new mood and keep the songs coming from the heart.
@Vlad the Inhaler that all depends on what you think is good and bad music wise. Some people would say this is a great song. Personally i liked the old ones better but feel that this has some musical quality to it, plus half the album isnt out yet so the songs might get better.
