Finally a proper Beyond The Grid podcast again. Please do more of them with the older generation of those involved in F1.
1996 was my first F1 season ever and I remember seeing Panis win in Monaco live at 8 years old, amazing memories!
Spain 96 was the first race I watched on TV. Schumi in the rain. Spa 96 was my first actual race I watched. I will never forget the sound of those cars
Meddl
He deserve to win with the Prost Mugen-Honda in '97.
It was a ligier bruh
@@VivekKumar-uw5gi absolutely. I’m sorry he didn’t come out in 1/18 scale 😥😥😥
It wasn't a Ligier by '97. And if anything, his performances in the first half of that year were even better than the Monaco win: 5th, 3rd, engine blew from 2nd, 8th, 4th, 2nd, and running 5th when he broke his legs in Canada - 3rd in the championship at the time. In a Prost.
@@FightingTorque411 Prost haven't the time to build himself its own chassis. The JS45 was build by Ligier.
@@ryuzocostanzo It may have been developed under another name, but it said "Prost" on the car in 1997. Just as we don't call the 2021 cars "Renault" or "Racing Point", even though they were being built under those names.
Before his injury in 1997, he was one of the best drivers in F1
Kubica of the 1990s-early 2000s
Yes, he was an exceptional consistent driver!
If Panis didn't crash; I believe he could've been a contender for the 1997 championship. He was 3rd in the standings from his consecutive points scoring finishes and a couple podiums after 6 Grand Prix in '97, had he won a race in 1997, Prost would've finished higher in the championship even ahead of Ferrari for 5th place (remember Michael Schumacher got Disqualified after his controversial crash with Villeneuve at the 1997 season finale in Jerez)
@@zanemarte9877 He definitely would've ended up 2nd or 3rd(If he somehow influenced the MSC-VIL title fight to Schumi from turning in)
I don't think Prost as a team would've had enough experience or pace to challenge. They would be a bit like Jordan in 99
Yesss! Panis is my all time favourite driver, so this is going to be a real treat to listen to.
wow, im happy to not be the only one in the world haha
Huge fan of Panis. My favourite driver of that era. Thanks for this, severely underrated.
Just imagine if he didn’t have that accident in Canada...
He would be 3rd in the points or even the 97 season is his
He was quick and so was the Prost. But he was never getting near the 1997 World Championship, they relied too heavily on the Bridgestones having an advantage. That's when they were truly competitive like in Brazil, Barcelona and Argentina. Yet Villeneuve still won those races in formidable form.
Honestly, one of the best episodes! I wasnt expecting to enjoy it this much!
He had an epic win in Monaco 96 🤩
Olivier Panis is Frances second best racing driver - Jeremy Clarkson
@@alexmab51 Venturi wasn't as successful though
After Prost retired
A fantastic driver and deserved sooo much more
I remember when he won in monaco 🇲🇨
was worth staying up late for.
Great interview...
How about, H.H. Frentzen and Pedro Lamy?
Olivier Paris 1996 Monaco Win 😍❤️
I remember it so vividly. Bonkers stuff!
Monaco 1996 one off most unexcepted race win of all time
after a bad accident he still piloted this is a legend
One of the best race ever
"The Formula 1 sometime is the Formula 1"
- Olivier Panis on taking Mika Salo's Toyota seat in 2003 at the 2002 Belgian GP
So much that I didn't know about Olivier. Some team; Please give him a test with hubrid car!! Such a humble man!
I watched you racing from the get go!
Great guy! Had an interview with him. He never found the guy who gave him that big flag.
Monaco + rain = Fantastic!
👌👌
Seb and Lewis would've report to Masi to stop the race.
@@bumblebity2902
YEs.. the possiblity. is there.. Nice.
39:06 he mentions the warm up crash in Brazil. I always felt that was in a way worse than Canada 97. I know the car in 1998 was pants, but also as a driver I think that was the beginning of his downfall.
That was a great talk with Olivier!
Can you do a podcast with Nigel Stepney next?
Nigel stepney died some years ago
Brilliant driver reminds me a lot of kubica but 10 years before
Am I the only one, who thinks, that it would be glorious to have an episode with TC as the guest? 😁
It is funny how all JVs team mates salutes him yet the common agreement is he played mind games and was hard to work with.
Well said. Interesting how the positive comments about Villeneuve as a person and great driver are never published.
Present day.... He is a team principal of panis racing.... After a successor of Panis-Barthez Competition
“I think the gear box is broken”
“Copy we are checking slow button on”
Interview Yuji Ide next time ;)😂😂
His career highlight for me was he lapped some shitbox Morris Marina in a ski resort in France.
"WHAT IS THIS SHITBOX? ...What is this car?! A MORRIS?"
Kimi "Bwoah" Räikkönen
Nico "For Sure" Rosberg
Oliver "Blablabla" Panis
This list is slowly increasing...
[Prob there are more, but I forgot about them right now.]
Richard Hammond: That was that Oliver Peni$ man again!
Make Weekend Warm Up : Monaco video available to all as soon as possible????
I really enjoyed this one, blah blah, blah blah.
I think Oliver could have achived more in Formula One in a parellell universe blah blah, blah blah.
Tom is doing an excellent job by the way.
Hi f1 fans❤🏎
I misread his name
This interview needs subtitles...
Oliver WHAT???
"What is this shitbox? A morris??"
👍👍👍
Hello
F1
ok
hola que gane el mejor
As if he turned down Williams
hehe panis
Who is he?
Google is your friend, plastic F1 fan.
Are you even an f1 fan?
You must be new to F1
guys there is no other person in the world who loves f1 and who knows it well. I simply asked who he was! I've been watching F1 since I was born so ...
I suggest listening to the podcast to learn, but in short, he's most famous for winning the wet 1996 Monaco race from 14th on the grid in an unfancied Ligier car.
17th
Maldonado won at the Spanish GP, big deal!
Boring to hear this no video
Well, it's a podcast haha
@@Antodobro hate it lol
How much would you gain from seeing them talking?
First!
Who cares
Be quiet
