    A Soul Reaver "Director's Cut" with all the missing content, the way it was envisioned, would be absolutely awesome. Maybe it will happen one day? One can only dream.

      That's what i hope, a game mode with we can play the cut content, in the way it was envisioned, with the original graphics and remastered as well.
      Even if was a paid DLC, like a $5,00 DLC for the remaster, i would gladly play for a complete version of the game.

      it will be hard because of Turel brother can't show on SR1 because the devs had to changed his story course to be summoned on SR Defiance or otherwise it will create a paradox on the game! xD Because as they said the CD's was short to put all this missing content they had to change the storyline because Turel was supposed to appear on SR1 and he was the one that would give the telekinectic power for Raziel.

      @@sergiomachuco7932 I don't see the issue. It would be an obvious "Soul Reaver 2 follows after the original release" situation and then the developers could do whatever they need to do to make "The Director's Cut" like the original vision. Just make it abundantly clear the DC release follows a completely different direction.
      Besides, personally I wasn't fussed on SR2. I tried playing it again recently and I just had a struggle enjoying it. It lost so much of what I loved about SR1, and that ending was just atrocious. If the "Director's Cut" just pretended like SR2 didn't exist, I'd be all about that.

    Superb video as always! Very thankful to the team at Aspyr and Saber Interactive for finally allowing us to explore these forgotten parts of the game at last! 🙇🏻‍♂️ Again, thank you for your hard work, and *Væ Victis!* 🎉
    *P.S.* Who knows... Maybe these lost levels will be completely playable, one day, through modding or New Game+/DLC, perhaps? There's a petition for the latter, actually (can't link it here, sorry, but it can be found easily). In any case, I am excited for the future of the series, and I look forward to the next updates!     Although I knew quite a lot about the cut content, the elemental aspects of the final battle with Kain make so much more sense now, as does the ending. Chilling. Amazing video as always! Hopefully in the near future there's a full remake coming with Raina, Baz and members of the original team directing the whole thing. I think somewhere I've read about Daniel Cabuco initially thinking about Rahab being a huge kraken / sea snake type of monster, but that idea being limited by the available tech. I can't even imagine what a ridiculously monumental production would SR be with its original story and modern gaming tech.

    Heard you worked on the remasters. All I needed to know to buy them. Thank you for your hard work. Back in the day never heard of these games and only been able to experience and appreciate them second hand through your videos and others. Always felt like I missed out. You helped fix that.

    Before I knew this, I always got the feeling that SR1 felt incomplete. Makes we wish that, if we ever get the miracle of a remake, I want Amy and as much of the original team back to create the original complete vision they wanted to tell.

    I played this game through several times at a kid, and never realised until playing the remaster last week, that when you're running in the corridor leading to the timestream chamber (the one with the visions into the future), you're actually running around in a mobius loop

    I stopped playing gameplays many years ago, but i still remained very attached to some old ps1 games (some even ps2). And the lok saga has always been my absolute favorite, especially because it has an oscar-worthy plot.
    when i found out about the cut levels and the lost ending of SR1 (more than ten years ago with the discovery of the LOK's lost world website), i don't know what i would have given to be able to see them (not so much for the story itself, which incomplete ending aside, was more than fine with me in the final version, but more than anything out of curiosity to explore those deleted areas).
    for years i had resigned myself that deleted dialogues, low quality images and theories would be all i would have.
    Instead first with the alpha version you gave me a complete vision of the undercity and the Turel clan, now a complete vision of Kain's Mountain retreat.
    You guys are amazing, i really don't know how to thank you.

    I really do hope the work on this game continues! I would love to see the deleted reaver enhancements added in as a DLC. Or finished versions of the forges. Even if I have to pay for it, I would absolutely buy future bonus content!

      There were cheat codes on PS1/DC to make your reaver look like any of the cut ones. I remember running around with the red and black reaver. Maybe the remaster has these cheat codes, too 🤷‍♂️

    When I used to hear (or read) people say they want a remake of Soul Reaver with all the cut content, I would always disagree, because the rest of the series could only happen because of how SR1 ended up, and I like where it went. After seeing this video, I'm jumping ship. I want to see a SR1 remake with all the cut content, as Amy Hennig and the team envisioned.

    I guess Kain's final boss battle was originally going to involve all the Reaver enhancements and it would probably involve using all the Glyphs too maybe as indicated by promotional screenshots.

    Videos like these are great but there are many people waiting for any sort of communication on patches addressing the numerous bugs/problems in the remaster(s). I know it takes time to figure out and fix issues but a simple "hey we're aware of this and this and this and we're working on them" goes a long way towards reassuring people that this isn't just another cobbled together remaster that's going to get neglected.
    I'm specifically referring to the night/day cycle bug where everything turns black, movement keys not being rebindable, issues with certain screen resolutions, issues with saves not working correctly, and a handful of cases where people are falling through level geometry during certain puzzles.

    Great, informative video as always! I am really happy that we now seem to more or less have the whole picture, what a journey it has been to get this far!
    Sorry if this has been asked before or I just missed it in the video, but at 16:37 you suggest that Raziel's pose does not depict him using Shift at Will somewhere in the Chronoplast area, but something else entirely. Then 31:13, you say that this actually takes place in Kain's Mountain Retreat, but I'm still unsure as to what Raziel is supposed to be doing here?
    Is he gaining a new power after defeating Kain? Is he using a powerup? Is he getting attacked and stunned by Kain?
    Raina congrats on your success!

    I think the storyline we ultimately got is well-done, but ever since looking into the games' development, I've been curious about what the story and lore would be like if this stuff was never cut.
    After watching this, I now kinda wish for an "alternate timeline" SR2, heh.

      Raziel would probably use the Chronoplast, instead of Kain, after the Elder God consumes the souls of all the dead vampires since he likely made a terrible mistake. This would likely still lead into SR2 with an albeit altered setting of Raziel learning about the Vampire history in Nosgoth etc.

    Since being introduced to cut/unused and concept content on games, me and my siblings always been suckers for such topic as its such a fascinating and fun way to learn about games like LoK and its development stages:
    How the game would've differed from the final game as is now should concept plans have been final instead, what plans were swapped or scrapped or re-edited, what had to have been removed or replaced, changes to story lore, unused elements and/or characters etc.
    Because of these factors me and my siblings seeing these concepts and cut/unused content added to the Remaster as restored and functional as they can be as the Lost Levels walkthrough museum as well as hidden cheats in game is such an exciting feature to the Remaster that we all explored to see with such anticipation after having found out of LoK's cut/unused and concept content throughout the years till now *thanks to you all Raina, Bazielim, Aspyr, Saber, Crystal Dymanics, Lost Worlds, Ancient Dens teams and the LoK community* 😁
    Another great video, Raina and Bazielim, *congratulations* on the Soul Reaver 1&2 Remaster release being a great success and here's for hope for more good to come for LoK in future and hope you had a great Christmas and a Happy New Year.     It's cool to see what could have been in Soul Reaver 1, especially considering the game is all about how different timelines happened in Nosgoth.
    That said, what I really wish they could do is finish the series. One last game, where the elder Kain resurrects Vorador to make BO2 make sense, perhaps to glean information as to where the Hylden Seer is, and while doing so, he sees Umah one last time, expressing regret for killing her and pondering, had Razeil's sacrifice changed him, or was it merely the passage of so many millennia that honed his regret.

    Tbh, the more I think about it, the more interested I am in seeing this version of the saga play out and develop further. There's something hauntingly tragic and powerfully poignant about Kain's portrayal here, something that the revised version somewhat lacks. You can tell that centuries of regret and the inability to course correct his own path has made him suicidal, so he does the best that he can out of the hand he's been dealt, and accepts the consequences with resignation. If we ever get a remake, I wouldn't mind at all if the developers get creative and proceed with the original plot they wanted to make, then go on to create a very different reimagination of SR2 and beyond.

    I would love for us to see a completed version of the game including everything that was cut as it was meant to be, and then more games coming from that changed continuity. We can only hope, but it would be interesting to see indeed.

    I've seen the gallery in the Bonus Content and I found myself amazed! It would have been a totally different game all together! Those villages, that Drowned Abbey, that forest, that Abyss, totally diiferent! Now I want to see the original-original game!

    The one caveat I have with the original design and vision for the game is the shift at will ability. I'm honestly glad that it never made it into any of the games. Think about how hard the puzzles and levels would be broken if you could just shift whenever. From a pure gameplay perspective, the fact that you can shift to spectral at will but can't do the reverse is precisely what makes for cool challenges.
    I like to think that even if they had completely realized their perfect vision for soul reaver 1, the shift at will ability would've still been cut or heavily nerfed in some way.

    Never thought I'd be alive to this day when this masterpiece with all its deleted content would finally end up shown in its all full complete glory (or well at least as close can get to it), now I certainly can die happy I been happy see it; a moment of silence for all them LoK fans tho who are not among us anymore been able see this.
    Still, either way, that is quite a massive haul of dedication and kindness shown there that can hardly be put to words how appreciated it is.
    All these years and all them sources (Raina, Lost Worlds aso.) never gave up trying to unearth all there is to deleted content and lore for all them LoK and ever just watched things in silence unfold up to this point and was already awed with the unearthing of the Alphas and first looks at what could've been - and now this, all that persistence paid off, heck even with ours truly ending up the director of the remaster, scholarer and restorer of a good deal of said content for all of us to experience first hand.
    You guys have become legends in your own right, you are quite awesome and you have our deepest most upfront gratitude for this, ever continue with your goals and be as awesome as you already been up to this point.
    And while still ever hopeful that maybe, someday, the cut content may end up restored enough for us to actually be able experience that original ending as had once been intended all to the end, this is still like finding the holy grail and can't be understated how awesome and gratifying this experience is, thank you very much guys. ^^

      Yeah since I was writing so much on my praises there just wanted to separately write 1-2 thoughts on the material itself:
      Yeah as been pointed out the way the final battle would've unfolded would pretty much make sense and be awesome too of that, would also sort of explain them screenshots taken (maybe Raziel would've had to use at least 1-2 glyphs to lighten up the torch posts or fill the suspected founting in the middle with water to impue the reaver with temporary) as well as his "Exploit all my talents" line because of, maybe Kain would've engulfed himself in magical barriers like was supposed to be in the courtyard before facing him and Raziel would've eventually come to realize that, for all his talents gathered up to this point, neither is enough to truly put down Kain, hence Ariel's arrival.
      The sort of immediate connection/transition from Kain's retreat to the Pinnacle of the Silenced Cathedral is sort of odd, but makes sense if the end of the game was meant to take place fast after the killing of Kain and guess where Raziel would've ended up facing a large amount of vampires accross his path as he hurries up the way all up to the Pinnacle.
      At least according to Daniel Cabuco I think there were supposed to be stronger-leveled types of them vampire races accross the retreat which, with what seen, would only leave very places to spawn in rooms pre-final Kain whereas the first hallway with the reused murals from the Silenced Cathedral appears large enough to fit in quite an amount of enemies there and onward from there.
      So guess what can be deterred from things is that
      1. Raziel takes his leave from the throne room with the new Kain-reaver
      2. And either in the armor-collection room or at latest entering the hallway again, the Elder God gives his "hurry" speech to Raziel
      3. Raziel goes the other end of the hallway most likely destroying whatever barrier may have impeded progress there like mentioned
      4. End up fighting or avoiding a large amount of vampires waiting for him in the next two chambers as he hurries up the stairs to the pinnacle
      5. Maybe in cutscenes using the game engine (hence part of the reason remaining rooms remain cut off rather?) Raziel would've ended up operating the apparatus to activate the pipes, maybe walking up to a window as shown in the Chronoplast visions to witness the effects of the Silenced Cathedral coming to light, blasting its deadly hymn to vampires with the winds across the land.
      6. FMV of Raziel flying down the abyss and witness the effect it has on vampires as already mentioned.
      Sry for ended up writing so much there, just some thoughts regarding those final moments of the game then. ^^;
      Also sure would've been interesting to see where the other two climbable larger walls at the beginning of the retreat would've led to, either the stronghold was indeed meaning to be longer or would've just lead to health/eldritch energy upgrades, who knows.

    Aspyr did some repair to the demo content so it is playable(turel encounter) where possible(the undercity having serious clipping problems near the end) and I hope they keep repairing more with the next updates. And I wish they could make the hd mode accessible for the lost levels too(HD Turel anyone)

      @JoncoTron they didn't repair anything, they ported a handful of rooms from an never before seen march build of the game and purposely left out rooms and entire areas they didn't want you to see from that build. They even confirm that in this video by using the jan-feb builds to fill in gaps, and that this new build had a finished version of the pinnacle that was left out, or the fact that the April build had a more finished sound forge, yet still used the unfinished march build version, or the fact that this doesn't let you use any of the elemental reavers despite being 80% complete in the April build.
      I would've much rathered a full complete look of the whole game world with each area at its highest stage of completion before they had to trim it down, even if that meant it was delayed or costed more to do so.

      Yeah a whole complete world would have been awesome but is probably too hard to pull off in such a short amount of time. Maybe with updates later. Or they extend the areas to where you would normally enter the lost levels(mountain area where you posess some turelim, city where you follow the worshippers) so it doesn't feel like being randomly dropped in some area

      However, I imagine the dev team had grandiose visions for the remaster and the lost levels, but I doubt they were given much of a budget, which likely constrained what they were able to do and forced them to cut implementation of cut content or just straight gameplay content. I also find it hard to believe there wasn’t some executive standing over them, tapping their watch with the unmistakable message: “Get this done as quickly and cheaply as possible.”
      This game series did and will always hold a special place in my heart and many others, too, but to an Embracer or Crystal Dynamics CFO, it’s just a dormant IP with no guaranteed profit. Profit is king. There was no chance the team would have been granted extra time or funding to truly polish this project, and that’s a damn shame.
      I’m happy we got something out of this but I will always wonder about what could have been, y'know?

      @RaeTheSpoonyBard i actually agree on this. Raina has always wanted to repair the original vision and have it playable, and it's obvious that they wanted to do so in the files, the missing stone forge has a folder and was obviously planned. It was clear that they were curated on what they could include, which is why only the march build was used and very little at that.
      I think the biggest shame is that most will assume this is all there was, and that most lok fans made a big deal out of basically nothing, when there was so much more here, like the working elemental reavers in the april build.
      What's most odd to me is that there basically isn't any extras for soul reaver 1 at all, no art, no trailers, alot of the music is missing, the cut dialogue isn't accessible and even the secret dev mode has been stripped of even the hidden secrets the retail release had.

Raina’s love for LoK is pretty evident and if she’d had it her way, I guarantee we would have gotten not only the game as released with the pretty facelift, but the game reconstructed with the cut content, including rebuilt parts to stitch it together in a cohesive way, so it could be played as originally envisioned. That’s every LoK fans dream. I’m sorry to say I agree with you that too many are going to be led to the conclusion that the lost levels are “nothing much” even moreso for any potential new fans that the game might have earned. “Wow - an untextured room. Why is this cool?”
      Yes - I thought it odd that so much of the usual concept/deleted fanfare - things that you wouldn’t think would be too hard to include - didn’t make it into the extras of the remaster. And this could be a me thing that proves I'm a game snob, but I could not ignore the home screen, at least on the PS5. I’ve played many a re-release of bundled older games and they typically have refined home screens to select your game, extras, etc, and always with a track playing in the background. It really stuck out that this remaster lacked any of that pomp and circumstance and was ridiculously basic. Like, why wasn't Ozar Midrashim playing in the background? Why doesn't it play when I hover over the game icon on the PS5 home screen, like every other game in my library? Much like lack of concept art/audio/access to secrets I’m sure this was also a symptom of a rushed release from above, forcing the team to throw together what they could.
      Ok, well, I think I’ve made it obvious I think this was rushed out the door and you don’t need me to do my best impersonation of a broken record to tell you this. LOL Anyways, I’m glad I’m not the only one who keyed in on some odd absences in the remaster.

      Well.. maybe the op would've been closer to defiance with raziel Infiltrating the chronoplast to begin his journey through time

      Moebius would have probably snatched him from the time stream with the intention of manipulating Raziel into being absorbed into the Reaver, as well as leading the pathway for the Sarafan to kill Janos. A younger, time-travelling Kain probably would have saved Raziel's soul from the Reaver, and in that act, Kain would have prevented his future death as well. That's all speculation, but Amy Hennig has said that the Soul Reaver 2 script barely changed due to the cuts.

      Or maybe Kain is just out of the picture in the OG SR2, and it just ends with Raziel being consumed by the Reaver, closing the loop, and proving Kain's fatalism right.
      Squint and you realize that Kain is barely there in SR2. You could cut him out and it's very likely nothing would have changed until the ultimate climax.

      @@TheKain202 I actually think the original SR2 would have either involved Young Kain filling that role or finding a way to resurrect Kain because his soul is in the Wraith blade.
      Or maybe Kains and Ariel's souls in the Wraith blade would be one of the ingredients for purifying Young Kains soul along with the Elemental Reaver upgrades.

      Well the whole series wanders around the idea of choice, shifting timelines, destiny etc. Blood Omen 2 takes place in a different timeline. Only one of the endings of Blood Omen 1 is canon and leads up to the events of Soul Reaver. A Soul Reaver 1 remake could easily just tell the original story as intended. Even more interesting, it could include the retail SR1 ending as an option 🤔

    I heard the remasters did pretty good. Is it possible to restore this cut content and add it to the main game as a dlc?? At least Turel and The Priest? Since that is crucial cut content that add to the lore, and I'm guessing that they won't do a Defiance remaster.
    I think that if there is a chance to give this series an ending it should be done, even if that cost Defiance to be erased

    Raina, will you fix the bugs in the remaster? For example, Janos' song is missing certain sounds compared to the original PC/PS2
    and in the heart of the air sword where it is placed there is a black square
    In sr1 the cathedral bell rings halfway
    and the reaper's telekinesis is the same

    I don't understand how EG's final message could be considered "ominous". It's perfectly in line with what we've come to expect from the EG since the game's beginning... no secret plan is revealed. The EG simply congratulates Raziel for what he was set to do anyway: to kill Kain and wipe out every vampire from the world. And this was EG's and Raziel's intention as laid out since the first cutscene of the game in the Abyss...
    So what would have made Raziel realize vampires were actually good for the world and that he had been duped to enact an evil God's plan? The "my servant" part at the very end??
    I think there's still a missing element here...

      I mean, for what Raziel knew, the world was bound to be restored now, so I wonder if the last huge "River" of souls directed down the Abyss would've shocked Raziel enough to wonder if EG's plan had always been about feeding itself, rather than Nosgoth's restoration, and that would have drove him to activate the Chronoplast... 🤔

    I wish a future soul reaver game went back to the future timeline. Seeing what the humans are doing now that the Vampires are leaderless and heavily weakened as the Empire crumbles potentially would be very cool to see. Would the humans still be in their citadel or would they have spread out taking territory like Dumah's slowly regaining their strength as the more monstrous vampires devolve further.

    It's very interesting to see this alternate ending. But I've gotta be honest, I am happy with the version we got in the end. While at the time, I was really annoyed with the whole "To Be Continued" ending, in time, having played and completed all the other games in the series, I felt the TBC ending was necessary.
    Now while that meant that it took us longer to realise Kain's importance as the anti-hero, ultimately, it led to an ending in "Defiance" that I much preferred.
    I have always been of the belief that the ending of "Defiance" was essentially meant to be a calling of 'time' on the Vampire portion of the story (even if temporarily), and an opening into the Hylden's story.
    I had the feeling that the next few games were going to introduce the Hylden characters (of which there were actually good/heroic among them, along with the villainous like the Sarafan Lord), and give us the complete picture:
    That, in pre-history, the Hylden were actually a highly intelligent & good race that had discovered that the Elder God was actually not a "God" but a hidden parasite that was feeding off Nosgoth's creatures souls. And, as a result of their discovery, the Elder God manipulated the other races to fight the Hylden in order to protect himself. And the Hylden "cursed" the vampires with immortality in a little ditch effort to weaken the Elder God (or at least delay his growth in order to buy themselves time in their ultimate goal of eradicating the Elder God from Nosgoth, thus negating the need for the pillars as TRUE balance would have been restored with the Elder God's demise).
    I may be overthinking it, but it felt like there was another 3 (or maybe 4) more games in the series: the next 2 would have been centred around the Hylden and Kain's discovery of their not so evil/villainous members that he would ultimately come to ally himself with. And the final game/s would be where everything would have come together and Kain would take everything he had learned from all 3 races to destroy the Elder God once and for all.

    as cool and dark the original ending sounded iam glad things did not go that way, the time travel story is so much more interesting and this would also mean that kain would be dead in the first soul reaver game ( if they even planned anymore games with this original story line in mind)

    So, they gonna patch the well known bugs in the remakes? Like the square black blocks in the puzzle in SR2? Kains or human Raziels eyes in SR2?     Although I'd love to play a complete uncut Soul Reaver, in the grand scheme of things it was better that they didn't have enough time and had to completely fuck the story up. It gave us a series, numerous sequels and as and added bonus we got to see Moebius getting btfo twice in like two minutes. Soul Reaver following its original design would have such a depressing end of story for both Kain and Raziel. The former having completely given in to despair on the realization he simply cannot his fate and the latter too ignorant and enraged to see he's being used and doing a terrible thing by killing all vampires.
    Soul Reaver should have been realized with both endings. Like if you took too long to beat Kain in the Chronoplast or something the game would go on and you'd get the bad ending but if you beat him quickly the game would end then and there. Take it that Raziel proved to be too dangerous for Kain to take on like that and he just decided to run away in the most convenient means available.

      Probably not true. A likely scenario is that Raziel meets a slightly younger, time-travelling Kain throughout Soul Reaver 2. And Kain would have been there to save him from the Soul Reaver, just as in the retail ending. Amy Hennig has before said that Soul Reaver 2's script barely changed due to the cuts. Noteworthy that in this hypothetical, if Kain prevents Raziel's soul from entering the Reaver, he also prevents his future death.

    TBF, the cut content that we see in the remaster is kinda mid. It certainly would've been fun and exciting to play, but, if the series had gone down that route, we wouldn't have gotten any of the amazing story beats from Soul Reaver 2.
    In fact, I'd say most of what we lost ended up either better told in Defiance or just reused in Blood Omen 2 anyway.

    I wish they would make a brand new game of the whole franchise but make it into 2 games blood omen and Soul Reaver and have all the ideas or what could work in modern engines and it be unreal engine 5 or something but the whole of Nasgoth be open world. Or make a whole new open world game but with the same players same characters and npcs on a modern engine. Iv been wanting to play an open world Legacy of kain game for a long time ever since Dead Sun was canceled though i didn't like its concept because it was the story of Kain and Raziel! It would be cool to have a remake of the game and it be wide open world so we can kill vampires zombies ghosts and it be like the Witcher but you're not a moster hunter for hire, you just so happen to be different because you're the only Reaver of Souls avle to walk the land of the living so the rest of both worlds will try to kill you and you can do side missions if you want maybe they have some bosses hidden around and alot of puzzles in the world would be cool too. Also many cosmetic items finally so we can look like a gothic vampire or actually be a vampire if we want. That would be cool too if it were like elder scrolls and you could be a vampire or warewolf or bear or anything or even a ghost if you wanted and just possessed people everywhere to get where you need, that would be cool to ha e so much freedom to do whatever you want like a gta game and even ride horses and wagons and even flying creatures anything can be possible in a new game, maybe a new enemy opens a portal to the world of the dead and a portal to a world where monsters are and some monster king or something was talking to that new enemy and promised them power only to come over and posses them and unleash even more chaos onto Nasgoth on top of all the zombies ghosts and vampires, now theres werewolves and other wicked monsters that you have to kill but you ha e to get all kinds of powers in order to defeat them and it would take you across not only Nasgoth but the spirit realm and this new world thats spilled over into Nasgoth. Anything with the world would be great its just been too long.

    It's ironic how in the sequel the Reaver is weaker, and even the fire Reaver feels like just a re-color that doesn't actually burn the enemies as it did in Soul Reaver 1.
    Even more ironic is how when we actually really needed those glyph powers in the sequel, they were just gone.

      The Fire Reaver was changed to look more like the Kain Reaver so that when you stand on the edifice of Janos's Retreat it signifies the final Chronoplast vision coming to pass. However I do agree the the forged abilities not actually enhancing the Reaver annoy me too. Also the Constrict ability is mysteriously missing too
