The Salvi isn't an Arianna, it's a Victor Salvi 50th Anniversary model which is a special edition one - it sounds like an Arianna on steroids. I had an Arianna and my teacher (who plays a L&H Style 23 gold) tried it just after I bought it and she said she wished her Style 23 (which she'd had for 10 years by then) could do what my Arianna does as she liked the strong middle range - and that was when it was brand new and not even played in. That poor old Style 30 at the end really deserves to be brought back to life.
The style 11 is my favorite harp of all time! That Salvi is a very one of a kind special harp! The old black style 30 would sound like a whole new harp with a complete change of strings.
I felt sorry for the last harp. The black strings look like they are poisonous. It's just wrong to use the red string for F string. What do you think of the sound of the Salvi harp vs L&H sound? Have you ever had to play the lowest C string? I have a semi-grand so I don't have it. I probably won't play anything that requires it. I hardly tuned the lowest strings since I find it difficult. I am not sure if it's my old harp or those strings are difficult to tune on any harp.
Haha we all feel sorry for that harp😂😂 i think the Salvi has a brighter sound compared to the lyon and healy ones. I feel like LH is a bit more heavy of a sound?? Haha i love both though so I can’t say which I like more! I’ve played a few pieces that used the lowest C and it was more to bring out the bass in the piece. Even if that string is in tune, it’s kinda hard to tell when you play it by itself but when you play in an octave that helps make sure its in tune! Haha and they are harder to tune since its so low haha
The school could employ one of you guys part-time to tune all the harps every day and play whichever hasn't been played that day. Might make a difference..
Definitely, if they were tuned (and played) frequently, and the strings were changed every two years or so, they should (I think) stay in tune much better; also, if played regularly, the sound on all the instruments should improve. If strings snap easily, a harp technician can check if the strings are pushing against the pins in the wrong way, or if the pins should have covers. Let the technician/regulator know all the issues you guys have with each of the harps, so he/she can figure out what causes them and try to fix them. Perhaps a different brand of strings might make a noticeable difference to some of the instruments?
I think it has a really brilliant sound! It’s design is not my favorite out of the harps, I prefer the more classic looking ones but it definitely is an eye catcher!
Well, all harps are hand made. All have their own sound. And they all age. The neck bends. The soundboard bows. Their tone changes as it goes from new to needing a rebuild.
My harp is in a place that I can't play full volume for a lot of the day. Whats your thoughts on practicing quietly? Its kinda impossible to pluck the strings properly when playing so softly, so Its probably learning bad technique. But then again its also practicing other elements of the harp.
Oh yes! I have some friends who live in apartments so they have the same issue. I would first find times of the day when you can play at full volume and take advantage of that! Then when you need to be softer, you can weave some nylon stockings through the strings to act as a mute and practice normally like that! It will sound more percussive which can really help you make sure each finger is playing evenly! Hope this helps!

We actually started doing that last year! It helps a lot!
The harps all should be tuned every day! Also more rigorous playing can improve the sound of a harp. The less its played the deader it becomes.

I wanted a SALZEDO myself but lyonhealy doesn’t have it at the time when I’m texted I was told to wait 11 months so I went for a style 100

Aha update on the harp, it got fixed and now we use it!! It just took a while to book a harp regulator haha
