I never knew I needed this. »Urlicht« moved my to tears many times, but this ... this is what this emotion essentially boils down to. It's deep, it's dark, it's profound, strong, as much desperation as it's hope. The warm darkness and rich colour of the bases captures that perfectly. Amazing arrangement and very skillfully and emotionally played!
Mahler's 1st 3rd movement bass solo: eat your heart out, even if Mahler didn't arrange this 4th movement of his 2nd symphony this way. I love it, thanks for posting!
Wow! Something I thought might be ridiculous (sorry bassists!) turns out to be absolutely profound. Brilliant arrangement masterfully performed. I do think Mahler would have loved it!
Gorgeous. I've played an arrangement for brass a number of times. This is one of the best pieces ever. The sonority with 4 basses is an experiment gone right!
my favorite thing about mahler is how he's always passing through such intense crystalline passages as these... the "nothings" are everything! the wunderhornlieder are indeed such a book of wondrous nothing.
Here's another round of delighted applause for this wonderful performance of a luminous transcription of this wonderful Lied! This piece always makes me think "apparently there IS a god after all" .. and your truly lovely performance lives up to Mahler's original.
my daughter just started with the double bass this week-- she's 9. Cannot wait to show her this! Hearing the tones of the upright bass echo down the hall and reverberate thru the wood floors is just gorgeous....!!! Ah! I need to make a folder with all the inspiring players doing cool stuff like this
I often regret that Mahler didn't keep all of his symphonies purely instrumental. Singing voices and lyrics tend to bother me. Here is a wonderful example of what Mahler could have put in place of the sung "Urlicht".
This is possibly the warmest and richest bass tone I've ever heard. Well done!
wow this is a gem of a surprise. i was expecting a gimmick of interest mostly to bassists but not so! _Mahler speaks here_

Lovely, the warm darkness...
Oh my this is sublime. The tuning is exquisite
Masterful! This needs more views!
Exceptionally gorgeous. The versatility of this great instrument is demonstrated in five minutes of superb music making. Bravi tutti!
😂😂😂
Felt the deepest reverberations within my soul. Bravo.

Thanks!
the mellowness of the basses simply suits this song so well. beautiful!
You four play this so beautifully! This was a very moving performance. Congratulations to all of you!
This is fantastic! I especially appreciate the tasteful lack of oppressive levels of vibrato!

Could you direct me to the arrangement?

Superb! Speaks to my soul. ❤
Suitable transscription of one of my favorite songs. Very well done. 🎻

Simply lovely
Beautiful interpretation! One of my most cherished pieces of music!
I did not expect an instrument like a double bass, usually written for the background, to be so lyrical and melodic...beautiful! ^w^
written for the background? very strange verbiage.
This is so beautiful
Gorgeous
absolutely superb !!!
Molto bello e ben eseguito. Veramente bravi.
That's a lot of "Ur"; I like it!

Oooo 🤩👏👏 excellent work. Did you also need lots of rehearsals? Greetings, Božo Paradžik
We dove into it as much as we could in the little time we had! Thanks for the lovely arrangement!
Hi Bozo, where could I get your arrangement of this? Some colleagues and I are very interested in attempting to play this.
@@leifdering3600 hello 😊 thanks a lot. It is available in the online shop of my website
Hello Božo Paradžik, I too am interested in where to purchase this arrangement, it’s unbelievably beautiful. Thank you!
@@zacharyrogers4366 hi 🤗 PDF music for direct download is available from the online shop of my website
Everything else is not necessary.
you could pretty much just do this on a contemporary classical concert, the arrangement is just weird enough to make it sound completely new to me

If only Mahler had you at his side to guide him. I can only imagine how Mozart, too, would have benefitted.
