Thanks a lot! I bought a used MacBook Pro 15" from 2017. It was hot, so I opened it to clean the fans. Had a battery service notification, and it was't difficult to figure out why.. Battery had swollen. Bought a new one and followed your guide, worked like a charm. Punched the old battery a few times, smelly! One big scary moment, however after re-assembly.. the Mac wouldn't turn on (not with, and not without charger).. Turned out I hadn't screwed the pancake screw fully in.. After, worked! Did a PRAM reset and now, a healthy (and safe) battery. So thanks again.

Very helpful video, especially because you keep talking us through it. Knowing not to bend certain crucial lids too far is essential, and I really appreciate all the little tips along the way. Not breathing in those sweet sweet battery fumes for instance 😏

Glad it helped. You can look for a local ewaste place that accepts lithium polymer batteries. It's probably not good for the environment, but I'm sure some people just toss them in the trash. I'm pretty sure they have stuff printed on it saying not to. XD Could possibly cause a dump truck to go up in flames, so best not to go that route. Lol

Finally, I replaced the battery in my 2017 MBP, this time successfully. I got a screw extractor to remove the stripped screw and, of course, tiny screw to replace it. This time I could remove the stripped screw and done that the rest went easy. The old battery was not punctured. I don't know why I thought it was. Anyway. sliding the trackpad back to its place was not easy, but I managed. This is the second battery I replaced. Last year I did to a 2013 MBP without any problem at all.(I followed your video, of course). I have to say, your tutorials are excellent. I owe you really. I don't use paypal, but I'll mail you money order or something. Thanks a lot.

Changing the battery in these models is scary and difficult - but possible if you follow this video carefully. Running the battery down before you start will reduce the chance of it getting hot if it gets damaged. A small spatula is the way to go and do it slowly. First time I punctured a cell which got hot and there was some leakage of fumes so I finished removing the battery outside.

My question is regarding the battery cable and pancake screw. All videos and guides have you removing the battery data cable before the screw. I was wondering if this is the correct order. I was thinking its better to remove the power before disconnecting any cables. I'm not sure but I assumed the cable is for battery data with the pancake connector for power. Something went wrong on a repair I did and I cant figure it out. I replaced a trackpad and on reassembly I first screwed down the battery pancake screw and then connected the cable. Immediately upon connecting the cable I had a circuit burn on a different part of the board and now the board is dead. The battery cable was not damaged when I inserted it. I did use electrical tape that was placed in between the positive and negative contacts to prevent accidental touching. Maybe there was glue residue on the contact? Any ideas what went wrong? When reassembling do you first put the connector and screw down and then the cable or should you connect power last? Any more information on the relationship between the cable and +/- connector would be appreciated.

It broke o something so I decided to close the computer instead. At that moment I realized I felt a sweet smell I thought there were battery fumes, and I saw one of the cell kind of folded, and I closed the computer. Then the computer didn't start.
