I get these, too. Something I do is mindfulness, a dbt skill, where I explain the thought to myself in my head and tell myself "This is my thought and it makes me feel like this" I do not fight the thoughts I let them come and try not to have any judgement over them. They eventually do subside with this technique. They can pop back up but when they do just use this technique. I am careful, too, to not make it a ritual so that it doesnt become a compulsion to fix the obsession, I have taken that into account! Hope that this helps!
The way I make it not a compulsion is I limit the amount of times I will do it a day (same thing I do with forgiveness prayers for people). Set an arbitrary limit of 5 times per day, and it will help, while not turning it into a compulsion.
