    Whoa Nelley, 1977 and going to Heaven. I've always liked these. Yes, they were a "B" body from 1977-1978 while the new 1979 redesign was underway and then in 1979 they joined the Eldorado and Toronado on the "E" body platform. This would have had a THM400 transmission. There was a special edition of these in 1978 as well.
    We got the VIN, we win: 4 for Buick, Z for Riviera, 37 for two door, K for 403 CID V8 with four barrel, aka RPO code "L80", Oldsmobile produced, 7 for 1977 model year, H for Flint, MI assembly and the rest is the production sequence. The Flint MI plant was the Buick "home" plant and operated from 1904 to 1999. It was known as "Buick City" for a number of years.
    We got the tag, we can brag: ST77 for 1977 model year, 4Z37 for Buick (4) Riviera (Z) two door (37), FL1 for Flint, MI assembly, 71G for Red/Firethorn cloth interior trim, 36L for Firethorn lower exterior paint, 11T for white vinyl top, AV7 for 50/50 split seat without recline, C04 for half padded vinyl roof, 01D for the fourth week of January 1977 production, can't read one of the other codes, A31 for power windows and AU3 for power locks.
    Whoa Nelley, paint code 36 hit the bricks. That's it, time to quit. 403 and it's for me. Olds V8 used to be great. Quadrajet is a sure bet. Going to be flat and that's that. "B" body looking a bit shoddy. Don't sniff the Crown Royal booze, or you might lose. Please don't get squished because all of the "B" body faithful, many here, and yes, the Google Man are going to be very, very, very, very pissed.

      In my post , I wrote 76 it was a 77 because it had the same body style as this one. The question l have is that if I remember correctly they started painting the V8 Buick engine blue in 75 because l had 74 Century and the 350 4 barrel was red and the 455 was blue in 77.

    • @googleusergp
      @googleusergp หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@garymckee63 Yes, that sounds about right. Pontiac changed their blue I believe in 1977. My 1979 Trans Am has what appears to be 1977 blue, and it's a late cast 400 engine, so it's possible that's the original color. There was no 455 in 1977, as 1976 was the last year for the Buick, Oldsmobile and Pontiac 455 as well as the Cadillac 500. The Chevrolet 454 was last used in passenger cars in 1976, but of course carried on in trucks beyond 1976.

    I was born in 1967, so I was 10 when this was new. I dont remember ever seeing one new. First I remember seeing one was in 1983-84 on the tv show Hunter. They had a lt. blue one, as well as a 2 dr, lt blue Electra of about the same vintage, that they were using as crash cars. This one imo, would be a fun, daily driver, since this style is not a real popular style

    • @scottpeterson4873
      @scottpeterson4873 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      anything early - mid 80s crashed these. Hardcastle and Mccormic crashed and crashed into one of these and the demo derby on first episode of knight rider trashed many of these but rumor was it left over cars from the Vegas series after cancelation except a 81 maroon 4-6-8 cadillac fleetwood that they t-boned into parts guessing warranty ran out or it was a salvage car. Now looking back, these were nice comfortable cars and this one with leather and 403 would make a great cruiser to have today.

    • @dancline2143
      @dancline2143 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I wonder if it were the same car? I remember thinking, why were they crashing such nice, new cars? Even if they were bought a few years earlier for another series, they would have been new enough to have some value, to not be trashed

    • @scottpeterson4873
      @scottpeterson4873 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@dancline2143 agreed, I think it was circa 1984 or 5, in Hardcastle" What happened to guts" they crashed a running 77 grand prix into a concrete support bridge in LA but they showed it changing reverse to drive and speedometer and odometer read 07, xxx so it had 107k miles and probably as a 7 or 8 year old car didn't make CA smog but yeah it was sad to see. Things were so disposable back then. Some of those cars shouldn't have been crashed.

    Years ago a friend told about this house that sold and there was a vehicle in a garage outback and it was 76Riviera blue with white top and interior. The vehicle had been in the garage for probably 15 years and it in good shape body wise but the 455 had no oil on the dip stick the realtor knew nothing about vehicles but she tried to gouge me for 3 thousand dollars and this was 1998 and she had to get the vehicle gone for the new owners so l offered 500 dollars and she was stuck on gouging me.
    I found out later she had to pay to get the car removed from the property.
    It had the Buick mag wheels and leather interior. 13:23 13:24

    So many nice old rigs that if all they needed was paint, the cost of a paint job is so high that the insurance company would total it because its more than the whole car sells for. Not so many rear wheel drive rigs left on markets now days. I would rather not ride in a SUV but thats all you see is these cars that kids think are so cool. If those had been around when I was a kid, they would have to hog tie me to even be seen near one. I do think the Crown Royal is just fine, it was setting in a place where most folks hid their beverages in and it stayed cool enough if the air was on. I am guessing that bottle was there long before being parked.... probably a good story on its being there in the first place
