Your channel is the best that I’ve come across in years when it comes to portrait photography. I’ve watched thousands of videos and hundreds of channels and I’ve never seen anyone shoot and explain what and why all while instructing the beautiful model. I’ve learned a few new things and I’m looking forward to more of your videos. I’m actually looking to become a member. Amazing stuff sir. Thank you for sharing. Keep up the great work.
A sincere thank you. I truly appreciate your support and feedback. I’ll keep making the videos, you guys keep letting me know what you want to see more of. I’m an open book. Thank you
Thanks for having me. Such a fun shoot. 🥰
Thanks for being a part of the channel. Fun times!
Such a beautiful model ❤ and she's natural with it 😊
Handling that direct sunlight like a pro as usual! Most people are still always afraid to shoot it! Nice video bro
Thank you
Beautiful model! I also think that the yellow dress really suited her.
Good job Marco!
One of the BEST YT/Photographer channel intro, well done!
Thank you!
Super stoked the TH-cam algorithm through your channel in front of my feed. You’re really chill, you keep it simple and give great feedback and tips. You got a new sub. 🙌🏼
Thanks for watching and subscribing. Your support is appreciated.
This video was awesome, loved the pacing. Loved the explanation behind every pose and location
Thank for watching and feedback. I am glad to see you got some value out of it.
Great video, the model was amazing!
I've watched some photographer's video of shot, but not many ones intentionally take advantage the direct sun light while they shot. they most situation is they prefer to avoid the direct sun light. your video impressed me about taking advantages of the direct sun light. I believe a lot photographer don't like shot under the direct sun light. Great video, great shots.
Thank you. Living in sunny south florida and primarily a swimwear photographer, I had to adapt to my conditions. I developed my style around it. Doing this allows me to shoot anywhere. Except of course, boring cloudy days. Those days, I stay home lol.
I love your creative procees, specally showing your model what you are capturing... Great video
🙏 thank you
Love the work, as alway s!!!!
Thank you
good video marco! been having trouble with direct lighting photography, some key tips I took from your video was
1. direct direct light and not on the side
2. underexpose photos to save highlights
3. mood boarding (which is not directed to sunlight shooting but still a good tip)
My pleasure. I’m glad to see you got value from the video.
You are cold bro! 🥶
Thanks for sharing..awesome work!!
Thank you. And thanks for watching
Beautiful location, shots, and model!
Glad you enjoyed it
Nice!!! The swimsuit was my favorite shot

thank you. I am looking forward to having you on one of my next videos
Amazing
Thank you
Great Video
Thank you
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Love the video and how explain why you show the photos to the model
Thank you
Marco Castro Nice work what is my chances to stop in miami to improve my photography and shoot with you
Another cracking vid as always, noticed you are always shooting very wide opened with the lens, my 50mm 1.4 when I use it to those sort of apertures it is very easy to miss the focus point or get one eye in focus the other out!! Also see the shutter speed is super high is this whats helping with the focus?
Thanks for watching. Yes when I shoot these portraits I’ll go a little bit more open.
I rely on Sony’s amazing AF and also ensure I’m standing fat enough for model to be in focus. The closer you get to your subject the more blur you’ll have
What is your process as a photographer when it comes to the planning of a shoot how do you go about creating ideas coming up with a theme what are some key things u look for?
Great question. I am working on a video to answer this very question. Be sure to subscribe and hit the bell button to be notified when it drops.
Nice work indeed good brother. May I ask how did u go about editing the photos to bring about balance and make them pop? The model did a phenomenal job and she's gorgeous.
Contrast man. Hard light helps.
Thanks for the video. I also shoot Sony and I am wondering what focus mode you use most. I use focus tracking most often but sometimes I have to tap the screen to move my focus point.
Hey there! Thank so much for watching and for asking this question. I actually disable touch focus on the photo camera since my face or nose will sometimes touch it. My preferred method is eye af with continuous af and back button focus.
@@MarcoCastro Thank you. My nose also sometimes redirects my focus point.
@@artribbel6683 yeah Man. That why don’t use it. I set my focus to area and I rock that
Greetings from Turkey, I've just started, I'm very enthusiastic, I like taking portrait photos, but I don't have a model to take them with, I need your advice, I have a Sony A7 IV Sigma 24 70 2.8, how do you edit the portraits you take, what application do you use and the last present? I just found your channel and I'm following you very well now. 🙂
Hello and thanks for the follow. I actually have a few tutorials on my membership here on this channel. You can go through them and follow along. I will be posting a few more tutorials over the coming days. I encourage you to check it out. Thank you again for following and I’m looking forward to following your journey. If you sign up, please share your instagram. I will also do a private group on instagram for my members.
Thanks for the video Marco. When I shoot with direct sunlight I find it very difficult. I try to take a photo at point 0 in photometering but still my model gets sunburned. I think you said in the video at one point that you are 3 stops back to save the highlights. Can you explain more? Because from the results I saw, you had the perfect exposure.
How about I make a video where I go over this process a bit further?
@@MarcoCastro That would help! Your photos look amazing, like they are not shot in direct sunlight but with softboxes and stuff :)
@@StefanAlexandruGeogloman these where all in natural light. But if you want to see some OCF (Off camera flash). Check these.

what is your go-to collab board? I was using jamboard but google is giving it the chop :(
Canva and export to pdf
You should show the post work you do to finish these beauties.
Thank you! There are a few retouching videos in the membership section 🙏
Thanks for the video Marco! I like the look of direct sunlight. How come your model does not squint? I suspect you shoot later in the day?
Hey there. Thanks for watching and for the question. The answer is; A combination of several things.
1) shoot took place at 3-5 pm and during winter season, the sun stays low through the day
2) I use a technique to help my models be able to look directly at my camera without hurting their eyes. I speak more about this on this video
th-cam.com/video/cNywfP-nL80/w-d-xo.html
3) I shoot fast, I don’t to the “one more one more” once I know I have my shots, I move on
4) I take a break to show photos which helps rest my and models eyes.
Check out the video I linked, that video was shot in late summer and sun was not low, therefore I’m forced to use a technique.
Thanks again and I hope I answered your question.
@@MarcoCastro Thanks! That answers my question! Cheers from 🇨🇦!
@@marcthibault8723 my pleasure
@MarcoCastro Another quick question came to mind watching your shoot in front of the Leslie! When in South Beach many years ago, I noticed a couple of shoots happening in the Lummus park area. Do you need a license to shoot there?
@@marcthibault8723 you need a permit. Ive been asked for one before.
Great job. The question I have is, how come the model isn't squinting? I have clients that squint with the sun behind them, let alone in front.
Hey there thanks for watching and commenting.
Check out this video which filled with tips including what I do to help models face direct light while maintaining their eyes open

The sound is insane ….what do you use for mic?
The wireless mic that comes with Osmo Pocket 3
did you have an nd filter on your lens
Negative. I only use ND for video work.
Do you think sun in florida is a bit lighter, smoother than in other counties, like i live in Dubai and i think sun here is a bit stronger, harsh comparedto your pictures. What do you think?
Hey there. Thanks for watching. I am not 100% sure if it's Florida sun related to be honest. I can tell you that i have been shooting hard and direct light almost my entire photo journey. I can't recall a time where i used a diffuser or scrim.
Also note that during winter season, the sun is lower on the horizon. As we get into summer, the sun goes higher giving you light more from above the subject. I will be doing a video on how I shoot during this time, but i have to wait until then.
For now you can check out this post on my instagram, this shot was taken at high noon, notice the sun above model's head?
instagram.com/p/CP_LpX6hA16/?img_index=1
Do you think you should have had a strobe to kill the shadows on her neck area?
“Should” maybe. But in my line of work, strobes slow me down (Check my most recent video and see what I mean). Also in south Florida is very windy at times, so I’d need someone to man the strobe. That said, when filming these TH-cam videos I primarily work alone. On a job, I’d have a team. Thanks for watching and suggestions.
How can I get the membership class
Hello and thanks for watching and reaching out. Do you mean a one on one workshop? Or become a member of this channels premium subscription?
3:30 - Think you meant to write "match" instead of combine there heh.
Great catch! Thank you.
Are you still in south Florida?
These days I am just about everywhere.
How are you making money from this shoot or shoots like it? Is a company paying for these photos? Just curious!
I wanna know these things too. Are people paying him or is he paying people, is it pro bono or what. 🤷🏽♂️
This is a GREAT QUESTION; In TH-cam it is very difficult to make money through adsense, if any. So thats where you start seeing sponsored videos. I am definitely not doing this for money. I truly enjoying teaching and helping people.
That said, at times brands have reached out to sponsor my videos, but I only work with brands that align with the way I work or brands that produce products which I can actually use. My rule is "If I can't use it on set, it's a pass".
Now, I cannot deny that putting content on YT has not opened other opportunities, because it has. That is primarily because what you see here is what you get when working with me, and some clients have seen my style and expertise and appreciate it.
This is like a portfolio for how is like to work with me. No frills.
It seems you shoot in golden hours. Sunlight didn't look so harsh.
Thanks for commenting and watching
When you do portraits in a public park do you need permission?
Some you do, yes. That is in the form of a permit
It could have been interesting if you actually explained anything and showed the photos. It's just you talking and the model staring at the sun (I wonder how she could keep her eyes opened)
Thanks for watching
oooohhhh, what did you want to show me?? You just took some pictures in direct sunlight. No filters, no reflectors, no shades, no nothing.... no apperture, no shutter speeds, no ISO, no WB, no...... you show nothing. OMG
Thanks for watching.
He actually did at one point share He was at F2 SS 1600 iso would be 100 if your SS is that high
Then at some point he went down to F1.4
He also shares them on the final pictures 😂
