Thanks Dr William. Very useful information, I saw 3 doctors and got confused about BMI and why one was willing to do the surgery and the other two did not want to. I doubted the one who was willing but now I understand. Will you plz post a video to explain what is internal fat and how do you measure it or know it? Thanks a million for educating us 🫶🏻
Better explanation than this? IMPOSSIBLE !!! Many surgeons displaced me because of that (single ) number. I'm a woman, and I have the constitution of a mid size man. With that number, I will NEVER fit in that table. Luckily, a very good surgeon, contemplate my all context and made me the surgery. Thanks for this doctor. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
This has been my issue. My BMI is 31/32. Former track athlete. I gained 100lbs when I got sick and lost 90 of it. I workout still yet this weight is not coming off like I thought, Im having a hard time building muscle and my body looks nothing like it did prior to the weight gain. I want to get a bbl yet the bmi has been one of the biggest barriers to getting it done😢

So, how do we know whether it's visceral or external? Like, I imagine that visceral fat is not as noticeable as external, but how do you measure it? I know you said by height and weight, but how do you know where it's at?
I hate to be the one to say this: weight and BMI absolutely need to be considered in some capacity. I see so many 250-300 lb women getting plastic surgery- lipo, BBL, tummy tuck. These individuals clearly have not done the work or lost the weight. They have not made any lifestyle changes. I’ve lost 152 lbs and I’ve been working on this since 2008. I am just now signing up for a tummy tuck. While everyone’s journey is different, there is no excusing a 300 lb patient as “really muscular” and approving them for surgery. Not to mention, the risk of everything increases in the obese in the OR.
I doubt there are a lot of patients over 250 pounds having those surgeries. For one in Florida it is illegal to have cosmetic surgery over a BMI of 40 and I don't know of a single plastic surgeon that wouldn't refer a 300 pound patient for bariatric surgery or treatment. It is not safe to have surgery at those weights.

Unfortunately, BMI is being grossly exaggerated because hospitals and clinics routinely weigh patients fully clothed, with the contents of their pockets, which can (in my experience) add about six pounds to their weight. Might not sound like much, but it raises your BMI, which your doctors use as a measure of your health.
Exactly 💯. That's why I always weigh myself before I go to my doctor appointments. Your true weight is when you wake up, no clothes , and after you go to the bathroom. The 30 pounds will lose the internal fat and then the abdominal wall plication or some people call it muscle repair will tighten the abdomen. Hi Dr. William I was wondering what’s the highest bmi you take ? .
Get to your lowest BMI you can before surgery--that will get you the best result in the safest way possible.
I was considering having a bbl but my bmi is higher than 35 and I think the fat is internal so I might have to do something else
I'm there too (37) and surgery scheduled in September. Doing keto, intermittent fasting & walking or elliptical every day for 30 mins.
