Parasitic loss that is to say get a 4 wheel drive automatic or a 2 wheel drive manual. More energy to transfer power to all 4 wheels…. Like carrying extra weight. Minor granted but still something to think about. Now drop a supercharged Fiori engine into a Sambar that would be fun. 758 cc supercharged to roar away.
I know 2wd Actys have a different final ratio and have a higher rated top speed, but throwing an automatic into the mix may change everything. I think a 0-100 km/h would be an interesting run. This test you ran was for , "who is quicker" not "who is faster".
I agree, looking back on it, this was mis-titled. I kinda wanted to get both ends of the pool and pit them against each other. Unfortunately I no longer have that blue one so it looks like I have a good excuse to buy myself another manual acty. To run a 0-100km/h test, among a few other things that have since came to mind
Its a shame that the 2 trucks were so different it would have been nice to see more accurate results. Also I know you said you did multiples take but from the sound the manual was shifted too early, has to be shifted just when its gonna hit the rev limiter. ( its a race )
Yeah I agree this could have been more accurate/provide more info. Acty trucks, especially the carbureted ones actually drop off in power and torque significantly when approaching redline so its actually better to shift sooner. Looking at the torque and Hp curves for these model years of acty trucks most power is at about 5300rpm and the most torque at 4500 so shorter shifts are preferable in a race
Did you put a timing light on either of these? Because you're talking about 30 years. A lot of people just marked the distributor and take it out to put the o-rings on to fix the leak, but I never hear of anybody talked about. I tried this amount of ignition or that. So you may have a completely untuned manual versus a decently your tuned up automatic.
Its honestly very close, though from what I've found driving these 2 for a few years I think the automatic will average about 1-3 mpg less then the manual since you can easily coast in neutral with a manual. With the automatic, its a bit more difficult to put in and out of neutral gently
Wait they have automatics? I couldn't find one with a automatic so I ended buying 96 Subaru sambar kei truck 5spd was lucky to get one that was a box truck
They are quite rare as they're a bit underpowered at higher speeds and are only 2wd (for HA3, HA4, HH3 and HH4 Model honda ACTY vans/trucks) so because of that the sales are lower and by extention less of them exist
The actual transmissions themselves share a very similar footprint. I can't say one is noticeably larger then the other, there are obviously differences, some immidiately noticeable, but nothing that sets them apart size-wise. The automatic truck is RWD only from the factory The manual is configured as a 4WD from the factory
I've done that before and it turns heads plus makes decent money. Only drawback is the seats aren't comfortable for long haul drives. For myself at least
The tire sizing was just for the thumbnail, in the video the wheels have been put back to the stock r12 size across both trucks. I like to run the oversized wheels normally, but for the purpose of the race I wanted them to be as similar and stock as possible, with the only differences being their factory drivetrains
Thats got to do with how my white truck is configured for personal use. I have larger civic del-sol alloy wheels in the rear to give me more top speed with street tires for traction
@@SharkAttackSkinder i would never do that to a 4wd vehicle as it would damage the drivetrain. The white one is RWD so as long as that axle has the same wheel on each side its fine. Same concept for muscle cars that have hundreds of HP with those fat tires in the back and thin tires in the front. But instead of a muscle car, the concept is applied to a small kei truck with 38 horsepower
Hi, thanks for the great video. I am about to buy a a 2021 model and could you please tell if they have the same top speed and what is the difference in the rev at top speed driving on the highway (even they are not made for Hwy driving :-) between the auto (which now is a 4 speeds CVT i think) and manual. I just would like to know if I can still cruise on Hwy with an auto without too much rev like a 4 speed manual do. Your reply will be appreciated thanks in advance
Hey! I'm excited to hear you're getting a new one! From the factory they have a top speed of 140K/h. If I'm not mistaken the revs will be similar but not quite as high, maybe 1-2k rpm less. The CVT in older trucks is quirky but I unfortunately have no experience with newer CVT's. If its a daihatsu, I have good faith that it will last a while as diahatsu is a subsidiary of Toyota and they make good things. The autos and manuals both cruise at highway speeds and in my experience the automatic honda I have fairs marginally better then my manua ACTY van and truck. One thing to note! Newer models, because they're less then 25 years old, must be registered as an ORV (off-road vehicle) and must be restricted in top speed per the regulation. The importer you go through should know how to remove it and may tell you if you ask nicely enough. They may not tell you though as its a legal thing for them, but the resources online are very helpful to delimit the truck!
The fastest I've ever driven my automatic truck was about 75 MPH (120km/h) although at that high of a speed your engine is at redline and will not be too happy to run that fast for very long
All ACTY trucks/vans 1998 and older (Model codes HA2 and 4 And HH2 and 4) weren't configured to be automatic and 4wd (with some exceptions) im pretty sure that sarting in 1999 with the 3rd generation of ACTYs you could find ACTY vans with automatic transmissions and 4wd as an option and I'm sure that trucks were similarly configured to have an automatic gearbox with 4wd, I've just never seen one personally, save for the aforementioned 3rd gen vans
Those trucks were flying!
fascinating. thanks for the share.

@@valserium good info thx
Automatic only rear wheel drive and you can compare mt5 rear wheel drive also
Real time 4 wheel 🛞drive
Rear tires is BIiG
Wow I had no idea these trucks were less than 1000cc.
Yep, all cars, trucks and vans that are Kei Class from Japan are limited to a maximum of 660ccs!
@@valserium wow I didn't know that. You have so much knowledge Bro 🤣. Try creating TH-cam shorts also to grow your subs. Great content 👍
With that incredible horsepower you boys need to be extra, careful not to exceed 25 miles an hour !

Is it rwd?

Why are we acting like the only difference between the 2 is the transmission? 2wd vs 4wd and an entirely different final drive due to tire sizing.
The tire sizing was just for the thumbnail, in the video the wheels have been put back to the stock r12 size across both trucks.
