  • The opinion of others can destroy one's self-esteem. We need to found our life on Christ's values, regardless of the response that generates in those around us. We may be unpopular, but we are truly ourselves, and that is worth carrying this Cross for.

I’m a Catholic and I just want to say I admire you greatly. There are so many Christian commentators on TH-cam who only want to indulge in criticism and toxic debates attacking their brothers and sisters in Christ. I admire the fact that you try to draw people closer to Christ than closer to controversy or resentment for their brothers and sisters in Christ. God bless.

@@mullmonastery Amen 🙏. That is what is so wonderful about having a spiritual advisor, or failing that, the fact that you take the time, Father Seraphim, to bring these things to the Lord in prayer and obtain His words, rather than a self help type answer. We are all blessed by these videos, and I am certain there are many young people out there right now struggling with this same issue with no way to voice it, or obtain help; and unfortunately, the devil is right there to " help" them through an abuser. Thank you so much for these videos, and God bless you Father and your ministry. 😇

When I was young, on a retreat, a priest said something that has stayed with me ever since…there is nothing you can do to make God love you any more than he already does but there is nothing you can do to make Him love you any less either. This has been a constant encouragement throughout my life. I am also a Catholic who has a deep appreciation for Orthodox teaching and practice, especially contemplative prayer. I too love your videos.

Thank you for your encouragement, dear Rita. I think any Christian soul feels some degree of anxiety regarding our standing before Christ and that is - to a degree - a normal and healthy reaction of a repenting soul. The issue is when the anxiety is not related to Christ's reaction to us, but to the reactions and opinions of the world. Christ is Love; the world is not.

I used to worry about what everyone thought about me.
I was a nice guy and generally well liked, but never comfortable.
It wasn't until I studied the Bible for a few years that I got over it.
We expect others to judge us harshly. We know that the world never forgives or forgets any wrongdoing, actual or perceived, and that we will hear about it again.
    Jesus forgave us.
We have to practice forgiving others, then not judging others (for inherent worth or position in eternity), and also forgiving ourselves.
Then, dismiss the judgment others lay on you because it is a limitlessly vain thing. It has only the value we give it.
Give it God's judgment and never value the opinion of man.

My spiritual director is an Eastern Catholic abbot who was raised in an Orthodox home. Previously you mentioned Fr Sophrony, and I am reading him now. I want to appreciate the saints both west and east and listen to them.

Thank God for that, dear Linda. When you read the life or the teachings of a holy person, I strongly encourage you to also add them to your daily prayer. I have discovered from my own life that if I pray to a Saint while reading their work, their words have more power in my life and I often find answers to my questions in their words (almost as if they hear my prayer and a conversation of sorts is started between us).

What true words you speak, Father. We often hear in the media, especially regarding politics, the phrase “existential threat.” Indeed, the world itself can be an existential threat to our true selves. I liked your striking image of being shaped by the world as a fetus in the womb. Yes, I too, even at my ripe old age, have that fear of being inauthentic. This, as you may know, is what the French philosopher J. P. Sartre wrote about; also, the hell of others and bad faith, La mauvaise foi.

I have discovered by experience that when I focus on the suffering on others, I forget about my self and my own suffering. When I can soothe the pain of others, my own pain become irrelevant. I think this is why the bible say's that the Law and the Prophets, that we follow the will of God without trying to follow it, as long as we live in love. And the bible says that there's no greater love then those that give their live for their friends. So if we give our life to help others, that's the best way we can help ourselves. Let us live in this love, brothers and sisters, amen.

If you have low self-esteem, seek Jesus and ask Mother Mary to show you how God loves you. Praying the rosary and praying in adoration brings me peace. And we can only find peace in Jesus. Thanks Fr Seraphim..You touched on a very important problem that many young people, men and women, are encountering these days.
Suffering from anxiety and extremely low self-esteem is Psychological human issue if not fixed can lead to more serious problem. Having said that, what do you suggest for these youngsters to do on a daily basis? We are talking about waking up and sleeping with the same disease, so to be more practical, these young persons need some kind of more practical changes in their daily routines, could be self-healing program to follow until they become a little stronger; I can think of the following: Getting out of their rooms, finding jobs and working using their hands and mind, imitating the monks (even though they live in the world), nourishing the heart by reading good books, helping the needy, engaging in a church activity, good sleeping habits, having good mentors and not being ashamed of telling their problem, praying constantly or at least getting the habit of doing it, reading Psalms, along with many other type of activities maybe you can specifically tell us about by another new video.
The young in our generation need good mentors and as you mentioned, we are the ones to whom should put the blame because "we built this life for them according to false ideology"!
    Thanks a lot!

Dear Father Seraphin, i am experiencing as well these feelings you are talking about , and sometimes i am afraid to letting the world shaping me and not to give all myself to Jesus. I truly agree with you. What shall we do when you Say that we have to be careful ? What to do for protect totally ourselves from this world. Thank you very much for everything

    Dear Father Seraphim,
It’s not possible for me to put into words, to relay to you precisely just how important all your Holy video messages are for me personally.
They are a true Blessing from The Holy Spirit and I give thanks to God for your Holy Priesthood and I thank God for the Covid lockdowns which lead me to grow ever closer in faith to Our Dear Lord Jesus Christ and which was the divine conduit that profoundly lead me to your Holy video messages back in 2020.
You are always in my prayers.
All Praise and Thanks to Our Dear Lord Jesus Christ.
    🙏🙏🙏

We are truly free to love each other when we are truly free to let each other go. We are truly free to let each other go when we know God loves us. Like father says if we love the world we will become like the world. When Facebook first came out I did not join it because it was way too happy. Everyone smiling and having the best time in their lives 24/7. That world is a lie. It's a siren song and all siren songs lead us to our death.
God doesn't love us because we are good. We are good because God loves us. We ALL fall short of who God made through original sin. This is the world we are born into through no fault of our own. Returning to God is returning to our free selves. Yeah its a narrow path but we already know that, it should be no surprise.

I think Christ's love will give you a reflection of your true self whereas the World will give you a reflection of itself. Christ is from above and the World is below.

i used to have terrible anxiety as a kid. from 5 to my mid 20s. all over the firey place. full blown out of breath, heart racing panic attacks. God isnt as trivial as to torture u forever for not loving God. its just not eternal imo. 10,000 years. 100,000 years maybe. not forever. Or, time is not the same and heII is just metaphor for life without God. God should be approached with love and respect. not fear. ive liberated myself of heII. i also try not to feel entitled to heaven as that alone could send me to heII (makes sense to me). i just occasionally disappoint God and beat myself up over it more than i should. God knows your heart and is merciful

I wish I had someone say this to me. I have a complete want to love people and be love. I got into abusive relationships thinking the same way that person did. I wish i had someone to tell me to be careful yeas and years ago and to love myself but I had no one. Even if you're not religious, this is incredibly important stuff to hear. I almost died because i was so unaware of how people can be. I tried to see good in everyone and so id try to trust them when no one else would. Of course this wasnt a good idea at times. I appreciate this talk. I know its unlikely you will answer, but what do you do when you have dangerous people trying to get into your life or dangerous people around you?? Does love involve trust?

Greetings. Although a large number of your spectators are of the Orthodox faith, there are also a large number of those who are not. Since you give spiritual advice, even to people who are not Orthodox, how much is it actually possible to practice Orthodox spirituality and not be Orthodox? Is such a thing possible or a little deceptive and perhaps even harmful to these people who, without the confirmation of the Holy Spirit, deal with the very lofty teachings and practices of Orthodoxy? All the best.

Thank you for the question, dear Aleksandar. It is a good question which deserves a much more detailed answer; for the time being, I'll only say that I see no danger in turning oneself to God regardless of where one starts. I believe there is no such thing as a human being making a step towards Christ without Christ having already run a marathon (quietly, unknown and unseen) towards that heart. We always respond to grace, and the simple fact that one tries to do an act of grace is proof that the Holy Spirit is already at work in that heart.

Can you make a video on this : I am having a weird version of scrupulosity which kills me ultimately, its that I have intrusive emotions, when I am nervouss, think something is a sin, want to repent, want to thank God, want to do anything that has any kind of bigger emotions attached to it, I feel that I am angry at God but I am not, and so this destroys me totally to the point where I cant listen to a school homework and not stop a video on like 2-3 minutes and than pray and than I laugh at some terrible blasphemious thoughts in my head since my mental health isnt good now and I just cant resist, anyone knows any help, any but literally any would be helpful since this is killing my faith health and mind
