    You can tell there were all so young, but what star power. The trip and recovery! That is what Legends are made. Great restored piece. A fave.

    Ahh... the famous "trip and recover" performance. No way is she going to fall down on live television. That's STAR POWER! Seeing the restoration of this show clip gives me hope we'll also see the rest of the "specialty" clips. Diana Ross and her Supremes appeared on the show 13 times, but I always say 26 times because each show had two performances: the first segment featuring the new hit they were promoting for the kids, and the second segment featuring stylized tin pan alley tributes and medleys with Broadway airs for the parents. It is these SECOND batch of clips Supremes fans REALLY want to see restored! The Sullivan clips of the hits have been around for years.

      .....good MORNING!!!👍 ....I'm also DYING to see the supposed mysterious live performance of "Some Things You Never Get Used To" that Mary included in her "DreamGirls" book in 1986....I've never seen ANY footage of that...ANYWHERE!!

    • @RBS_
      @RBS_ 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @Alain Quartermaine ...In the back of the book, Mary gives a list of all the 'performances' the 'Girls' gave chronologically, & 'Some..' was listed, as an "Ed Sullivan" performance; My Book is boxed away in storage, but if proven wrong, I'll humbly remove the comment...

    What a wonderful way to begin a new year! January 5th, 1969 Diana and the Supremes sang Love Child, I’m Living in shame and then topped it all off with this mashup of “I get a kick out of you”/I’ve got you under my skin”.
    I remember having seen every appearance these 3 ladies made on Sullivan but this one really hit me. It was around this time that I wondered why Diana was still with the group. It was the moment for her to spread her wings and leave. Rumors had been circulating for a few years and the excitement of her leaving was practically tangible. I wasn’t sad at all when they split because there was too much to look forward to regarding Diana’s solo career. Needless to say, she not only lived up to the expectations; she surpassed them.

    Wow, i just discovered this! What a gift ! Here the tough girls from the Detroit Brewster projects doing a very very nice rendition of such a classic white song from an era of terrible racism. But thats the point! The Supremes and Motown in general helped build that bridge that was there all along, a bridge of accepting the reality that our Black brothers and sisters are beautiful talented men and women to be celebrated rather than stupidly irrationally reviled.

    Ah the Supremes pretending that they can tap dance! Good old fashioned variety! So many Pop stars appeared on the biggest TV shows of the era which tended to be flagship Sunday or Saturday night ratings busting variety shows watched by the whole family. It was one of the few opportunities to watch your favourite stars perform long before dedicated Music TV channels. They would perform their latest hit or a medley of hits in one segment and then later appear performing a Broadway "standard" often alongside the shows host. This format continued well into the 1980s in both the US & UK

      Diana has always been the key to the group. It is not known if, Diana were not the main one, the group would have made so much success. So Mary accepted, she says it herself in the interviews. Don't try to erase the story, it was like that and it was amazing that way.

      Considering the times and the relationship between Diana and the CEO...Mary didn't seem to have much of a chance... I have seen interviews where Mary said she stood up for herself and the group, but she had not chance.

      @SocialExhaustion 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      And they've played the apollo earlier in the 60's with great success before. So what are you saying? The Supremes can't provide variety?

    • @bobwatson1162
      @bobwatson1162 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@SocialExhaustion Those 3 cities mentioned are the most important places on the East Coast for Motown and Chess in the early years.. they would play D.C and Baltimore, then Philadelphia and end up at the Apollo.. and you know that they didn't do this kind of stuff..

    • @SocialExhaustion
      @SocialExhaustion 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@bobwatson1162 well of course they didn't do this kind of stuff there. Barry was trying to bridge gaps racially with The Supremes and on the same token, make more money. They were simply very marketable. This is a fun little performance.

    Was it Diana channeling Michael Jackson or Vice Versa? Wow, remember when Michael had cosmetic surgery done to look like her? And then the problems began with his nose falling off or something...But I loved them both. (I graduated HS in 1969, and every Sunday we watched Ed Sullivan Show at my friend's house).

    • @donnieconner7278

      Miss Ross doesn't need to channel anyone. She is a rare treasure.

    • @nakitawilliams4259
      @nakitawilliams4259 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You claim you love Michael and then tell these lies that the tabloids put out about him one of the things that broke him…..unpopular opinion but y’all overrate how much Diana influenced Michael. Musically there’s no similarity or nothing else. Michael didn’t have cosmetic surgery to look like her and I wish y’all would stop just believing everything y’all see in the social media. These are the same tabloids that said latoya and Michael were the same person mind you…..Michael didn’t need to channel Diana ross. If we’re talking about performance, James brown & Sammy Davis influence him the most….and Jackie Wilson. Michael’s performing style doesn’t scream Diana and the fact is Michael can actually dance and is more fluid in his movement so there’s no way when he’s performing he could be channeling Diana. When MJ is performing you see Sammy Davis & JB. The only thing Diana influenced was some of his vocal styling in his earlier years…..the problem is y’all believe too much. Michael didn’t want to look like her he was IN love with her and wanted to marry her. They don’t even look that much alike….at one point they had the same skin tone & they both have big eyes but that’s about it.

    • @DCGuy1997
      @DCGuy1997 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Nah. He was obsessed with her. He emulated her looks and vocals. Even the little hiccup he had. Diana did it first. There's even video of her doing her own little moonwalk when she was with the Supremes. Huge influence on MJ.
