I really liked Neela.......Thing is after Luca and Abby (Pratt Kind of) it almost seemed like ER couldn't develop strong characters anymore. Plus its not like they didn't have time to develop Neela as a strong character, she was on the show for more than 5 seasons.
Neela wasn’t given much time at all for her character to be developed. Her and Gallant weren’t given much time to develop as a couple either. He was always gone and Neela did build up how her and Michael were. It was a mistake for them to marry. Abby was right to caution her, she really didn’t know Michael and spent more time apart than together. Compared to the main characters like Abby Luka Carter etc, Neela wasn’t given much time for her later main love interest that was Ray. Neela whole story arc was very much rushed.
@@sadieyoung7397 You're right! I'm currently rewatching this entire season right now. And they really did not know each other. Everything you wrote was right. It's frustrating because the later season of ER was not was well written as the earlier seasons.
As the show went on ER killed off way to many people just for dramatic effect. I get it's a TV show but for fucks sake. I felt like every week you had to walk on eggshells because someone else was about to kick the bucket.
There were many cast changes as stars' contracts expired and they became just too expensive to keep on board. Also, writers and producers left the show. All these changes were explained in interviews of cast members and writers, and medicine is quite often a transient business where doctors and nurses change jobs in search of better opportunities and personal growth. In some of the middle seasons, you had an almost incestuous situation where, for example, Luka had relationships with Carol Hathaway (actually, with her twin girls - he was so desperate to be a father again), Samantha Taggart (her 10 year old son was his surrogate son) and a medical student (another child who turned out to be more adult than he was at times) before he finally stopped dancing around Abby and connected with her in a lasting way. And there was the whole Abby-Carter-Luka circle. The writers needed to clear out some of the strange story lines and characters. All this is the normal business progression of a hit television drama series. And it became hard to maintain the quality of the show, and other studios and producing teams now had very good examples of great acting, writing and directing to learn from and ER set the bar very high. Fatigue inevitably set in.
@@MyCleverHandle I don’t even count carol or Sam as relationships for Luka. He liked them but he was more interested in their kids and was always meant to a husband and father. Abby was always his main love, it was just bad timing first time around(other known as the annoying gnat carter) I also agree they killed off many of the smaller pointless characters to make room for the main characters with a bigger story to tell.
After these 2 i really didn't care about too much else other than Pratt dying. I definitely hated them almost immediately throwing her with Ray 2 or 3 episodes after Michael's funeral
When Neela watches the tape that Michael made for her....wow. So gut wrenching.
Love their relationship, I hate Michael was killed, it's heartbreaking :(

Her hair is amazing and she is a very good actress.
