  • For this video, we got together with our good friend Chris Meckley of ACI Aquaculture to continue our Kalkwasser and higher pH revolution on how he incorporates Kalkwasser into his coral systems. Hopefully this video can also show how it can save you time and money by incorporating this into your system and also see things from the experiences and perspective of one of the most respected coral farmer in the industry.
    Check it out and see if this can help you and comment down below!
    Happy reefing!

Did you have negative effects at the beginning when you adjust for the proper dosing of kalk? From what I understand with your method, I should disconnect my calcium reactor and use only kalk for a better result? Do you add kalk at night only, all time or twice a day? Generally what’s at the bottom of the container is undissolved kalk. When you add the water you can mix that first until it’s in solution. Then you can add more kalk to the bucket until you reach the 12.44. Check your PH and as long as it’s reading 12.3 - 12.44 your good. Now if you add water to the undissolved settlement and it does not dissolve, it’s likely impurities in the batch of kalk you are using and I would recommend dumping that out. Like everything else, you get what you pay for. Hope this helps.

    Cool video, like to see the equipment behind systems, how much kalk are you dosing in 24 hrs to how much system water volume?, do you dose over night to offset ph swings ?.
    I have reduced our kalk dosing to 12 hours overnight on our 600 gallon system, even with a calcium reactor running at 200ml a minute the ph was topping over 8.4 by the end of the lighting period under 6 haldes which I thought is too high, so it's 12 hours of calcium reactor in the day and 12 hours of kalk by night on our system.

    This video doesn't actually detail anything. Chris talks about the benefits of kalkwasser and discusses the results they've had with it. He maybe gives one or two small technical details. But yet again I have not seen Chris give any details of exactly what he is doing here. He just says he is using potassium hydroxide and that it is dangerous. Chris, if you are going to title a video "HOW TO dose kalkwasser" we need you to actually give concise step by step instructions on what your setup is. What equipment, what parameters, what interval. Are you using a kalkwasser reactor? What pumps are you using? Show us how you mix it, show is how you dose it. Don't just say "we recommend you use a dosing pump". This isn't a how to, and every single TH-cam video you guys make about this supposedly awesome PH boosting method gives absolutely zero detail. You just give yourselves a pat on the back without telling anyone more than very generic basics.
    Yeah. Kalkwasser is good. We get it.

  • @jarede2708
    @jarede2708 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    kalkwasser is balanced calcium and alkalinity. You said your alk will initially rise and you will have low calcium. That is not possible. They will both rise and the corals will use them at the same rate because they are balanced and taken at the same ratio from the corals.

    • @aciaquaculture
      @aciaquaculture 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’m not sure why you would think it is not possible? Calcium Hydroxide is 2 hydroxide with 1 Ca so for you to say they are balanced is completely false, so I’m not sure where you are going with this? I have help from a Marine Scientist and a physicist that made the science clear to me.
      I didn’t misspeak about the rise of Alk and the fall of Ca.
      I saw it with my own eyes. The variables with water chemistry and the life in it make every system different and that is the difference between a chemist telling you what is going to happen and real marine science taking place.
