What if your evaporation is not that much? I live in florida with high humidity! Also are you saying that the spikes in alk was because you weren't paying attention to things that suppress it and you overdosed? I am wanting to try it but I live in fla like I said and it rains all the time plus low evap! Also are you still running the co2 scrubber and pulling in outside air or is his method alone. I dont have room close to tank for big barrels either. Is it possible to refill a small container from the big or does it need to come from the big brute?
The best you can hope for is just dosing to match your evaporation. The vat sides you use is completely up to you.Just keep in mind, the smaller the vat.The more opt and you have to fill it. You can also increase your evaporation by putting fans across the top of your sump area.
Im a bit worried, lets say all is ok and suddenly i have a party in my house with 20 people, obviously pH will go down due to extra co2, so Apex will have to dose a lot more of Kalk to keep Ph stable? And probably will spike Alk even more?
@daliuskesarauskas7464 The possibility is there correct. I have placed a high float sensor in my sump. For just such occasions, if it was to start dosing excessive amounts of kelk, the float sensor would notice the sump is high and stop the dosing
@@niagarafirecoralsMike Zee well to be honest i tried this method for a day, my Ph avarage was 8.15 so have made a rule on DOS not to dose if Ph is higher than 8.15. It kept it at 8.15 during the night but it never went higer than 8.17 during the day as obviously it wasn't dosing kalk... so not sure if ive done something wrong?
I have been doing Chris method for 3 years and never had this problem you're talking about. And I have a calcium reactor. My ph at night is 8.3 day 8.6. I have 3 large dogs. Me, my wife and kids. Alk, swing is fine. Chris stressed, "Don't worry about alk only, ph. My alk I keep at 6.5 to 8. It will swing, and as long as it stays in that range. And I only use the same alk as Chris in a sealed 20gal container. And you have film on top of your kalk. Thank means you getting air in the container. You loose potency. My container has no film and is clear looking down. Ph in container is alway at 15.
Glad this method is working perfectly for you that is awesome. As I stated, not everyone will experience this issue. The mix in the container is very clear so not sure what you were seeing and it is at max ph which kalkwasser can reach which is 12.4 - 12.5. I'm very surprised to hear yours is 15 which isn't possible so I'm assuming that's a typo same as the typo at the beginning of this comment where you stated you have been doing this method for 3 years? You commented 2 months ago on the last kalkwasser video you had been doing it for a year? We should all be here to help each other. at least that is my goal. Thanks
Think you are telling lies there bud. Because the moment you mix kalk it starts reacting with the air and forms a film ontop unless you are mixing your kalk in a vacuum and it is exposed to no air. Second fully saturated kalk ph is 12.5 so there is no way its ph is 15 unless you have some magic method/mixture that you are using.
@@niagarafirecorals doing this method for about 2 weeks now and everything is great except my calcium keeps building up to 500ppm. I do a water change back to 450ppm. I have not dosed anything but Kalkwasser in the 2 weeks. My parameters nitrates= 20 PH =8.4 alkalinity =10.9 magnesium =1450 Phosphate =.12 calcium = 450 in a few days my calcium will be back to 500ppm.
@seanboyer1494 if I had to guess, it's due to your alk being so high. I run mine between 8 and 9, which holds my calcium at 450. You have only just started the method, so just try being patient for a month or 2 while everything settles in. My alk and calcium both went high as well early on but eventually settled in and came back down. Hope this helps. 👍
I 100% have that same issue when my gigantic son is home lol. I just adjusted my APEX now to fix the problem. Thank you for sharing.
You're welcome
Thx for the thought process… and explaining the context … just earned a sub .. thx for not cursing
👍 Thanks so much

I dose AllForReef and Kalk 24 hours at the moment, should i stop dosing AllForReef when trying this Kalk method?

I wad dosing Kalk 24/7 before thats why my avarage ph was at 8.15
How often do you change tubing in versa
I have only been using them a few months so I haven't changed any yet.

Why am I the only one with calcium buildup from this method?
What do you mean by calcium buildup? Maybe we can figure it out?
