As a Norwegian I dare to object calling it an improvement from the original. That’s kind of offensive to one of the few cakes Norwegians can call truly ours ( it doesn’t matter if the chocolate one should taste better 😉😂). BUT it’s a welcome variation and I love how a fresh set of eyes can go beyond tradition, take the ball and run with it ❤️ No doubt, it looks delish!

I will make it for my son on his birthday in December. Because I am a diabetic I will make it keto - but your recipe and technique are so clearly demonstrated that I am sure it will be both successful and delicious. Fabulous--video format, instructions, recipe. The vanilla custard was great last year and I'm gearing up for another run at it this holiday week. Thx for figuring out the chocolate form! Any pro tips on my hope/plan to combine the vanilla and choc recipes, essentially half of each? :) I would layer vanilla cake bottom, choc custard on that, chill to set, vanilla custard next, then choc cake top. Also, I notice that you reinforce with gelatin and 2x the cornstarch than a 12"x8" elsewhere-recipe last year. Maybe because yours is so (beautifully) tall with only an 8 inch diameter? Your custard layer is 2x taller. With the 10" springform I'm trying this year, yours will still be about 50% taller.
