He was fantastic, saw him live once , marvelled at both his speed and creativity . He paid a real physical price for delivery too with the heart attacks but man he was fantastic.

As a budding drummer in the sixties playing in a pop group. Buddy was the reason I gave up!:)

As I said before, if God took the form of a man and that man was a drummer that man would be Buddy Rich

Power control and SWING. Buddy’s verve could relentlessly drive a band with only his ride cymbal. It’s amazing Buddy’s posture and back/neck pain didn’t bring his playing down over the years.

I was messing around an started doing that tapping of the stick. It’s a cool little stick control tool. It’s the only way I can do a 1 stick roll. 😅

By far the most difficult instrument to control. Buddy makes it look so easy.

No, something like the rabab or the sarod is a much more difficult instrument to control because you have the added factor of your fingers pressing directly on the strings and affecting the pitch.
However, Buddy Rich's musicality was wonderful - Ringo and Buddy Rich may have been different in terms of technical virtuosity, but they each had a musicality which one cannot teach. Alla Rakha and his son, Zakir Hussain, also have that musicality.
With all of these musicians, you just need to hear them play a few notes son their instruments, without even going fast, to hear that musicality.
