After his first recording, devoted to Chopin (ZZT 347), and the award of First Prize at the Géza Anda Competition in 2015, which gave a substantial boost to his career, the young American pianist Andrew Tyson has devised a new programme to showcase his talents: two sonatas and a waltz by Scriabin coupled with Ravel’s Miroirs.
Andrew Tyson has chosen to associate two composers whose language seems to divide them, but who nevertheless have many things in common, notably their use of tonality, of certain unusual harmonies and of dissonance. Alexander Scriabin and Maurice Ravel also lived in the same city, at the same period, without ever meeting: Debussy, Ravel and the French musical elite of the period regarded their Russian colleagues as crude and uneducated. Yet when one listens to their music, even if their approach to the piano and to composition could hardly be more different, it is apparent that they use tone colours in the same way.

Après un premier enregistrement consacré à Chopin (ZZT 347) et le Premier Prix du Concours Géza Anda en 2015, qui lui a permis de fortement développer sa carrière, le jeune pianiste américain Andrew Tyson a conçu un nouveau programme sur mesure : deux sonates, une valse de Scriabine et Miroirs de Ravel.
Andrew Tyson a choisi de réunir ces deux compositeurs que leur langage semble éloigner mais qui pourtant ont de nombreux points communs, notamment leur usage de la tonalité, de certaines harmonies et des dissonances. Alexandre Scriabine et Maurice Ravel ont aussi vécu dans la même ville, à la même époque, sans jamais se rencontrer : Debussy, Ravel et l’élite musicale française de l’époque considéraient leurs collègues russes comme grossiers et incultes.
Pourtant, en écoutant leur musique, même si leur approche du piano et de la composition ne pouvaient être plus différentes, ils utilisent les couleurs de la même façon.
Pour Andrew Tyson, « Ravel est un perfectionniste de l’élégance, où chaque détail est calculé et brille comme un cristal ; Scriabine est comme une flamme erratique - passionnée, désordonnée, spontanée et érotique.»
Seit seiner letzten Einspielung mit Präludien von Chopin für das Label Zig-Zag (ZZT347) ist viel passiert. 2015 gewann der junge amerikanische Pianist, Andrew Tyson, dessen ungeheures Talent sich schon auf diesem Debüt-Album abzeichnete, den Géza-Anda-Wettbewerb, was seiner Karriere weiteren Aufwind gab. Nun zeigt Andrew Tyson mit zwei Sonaten und einem Walzer von Scriabin und Ravels MIROIRS abermals sein Können.
Die beiden von Tyson ausgewählten Komponisten scheinen eine völlig unterschiedliche Sprache zu sprechen, und dennoch haben sie vieles gemeinsam - besonders die Verwendung der Tonalität, ihre ungewöhnlichen Harmonien und Dissonanzen. Darüber hinaus lebten Scriabin und Ravel zur selben Zeit in derselben Stadt, ohne sich jemals zu begegnet zu sein. Debussy, Ravel und die französische Musikelite dieser Zeit empfanden ihre russischen Kollegen als grob und ungebildet. Doch beim Hören der Musik stellt man fest, dass - selbst wenn der Zugang zum Komponieren und zum Klavier unterschiedlicher kaum sein könnte - der Gebrauch von Klangfarben der gleiche ist.
Für Andrew Tyson ist „Ravel ein eleganter Perfektionist, für den jedes Detail genau kalkuliert ist und funkelt wie ein Diamant. Scriabin ist wie ein flackerndes Feuer, leidenschaftlich, waghalsig, spontan und erotisch.“
