Hi Dan, cool bit of kit. Good to see you back on the tube. I’ve got a amp and cab switcher that can switch between about 700 amps and 50 cabs, it’s called a “Kemper” 😂 😆 lol.
Love this bit of kit. I’m still trying to pick which one to go for though 😆 I’m pretty sure my Captor X can be controlled by MIDI to use different IRs per amp as you suggested you wanted. Maybe we need a session to try that out?
I didn’t think it had MIDI but I’ve just looked again and you’re right it does! Got a little 1/8 inch MIDI port that I thought was headphones on the pic 😂 Yeah definitely have to test it out lad!
My problem is this: I run an AxeFx in stereo to a stereo matrix poweramp then into a left cab and a right cab. I’m trying to figure out how to switch from the AxeFx/matrix rig to a fryette stereo poweramp at the click of a switch but using the same two cabs left and right. Most switchers I have been checking out can’t take in two channels from a stereo poweramp nor split out to the two separate L/R cabs while playing through either poweramp! Anything I should be checking out??
I think an interesting application of this device, would be in small clubs or multiple acts play in an evening. The audio engineer could backload all the guitar amps at once, and then set it up so when the guitar players take the stage, he can turn on their rig. This would save time when bands swap out. You could even have multiples of these devices. So let's say you had one for bass guitar, one for rhythm guitar and even one for keyboards. I mean, it would make the initial setup a little complicated but the time in between acts setting up and tearing down would be greatly reduced. The audio engineer would have to really be on top of their game though. But sound checks would eliminate any issues where someone was playing through the wrong rig. Of course the studio applications are obvious when you have multiple rigs. I just think this would also have some live implications beyond a single player usage. I guess I must have spent too much time around audio engineers. LOL!
Usually for a backline, you just have the amp already plugged into a cabinet. You plug your instrument/pedals into the head. No one needs to change anything. If its a gig where everyone is using backline gear, sound check isn't really much of a thing either. Otherwise, if its the scenario where no one is using backline, needing to plug into a signal router honestly just adds a step. lol. I could just plug into my cabinet and not have to switch something vs plug into my cabinet then need to flip a switch other than taking my amp out of standby. In that case, I am also tethered with my gear to theirs until the show is over and now I am unable top load out. In other words, if it isn't backline gear, no you cannot switch your shit into my cabinet and no I am not waiting for the show to wrap up for me to load out. No matter the scenario, this device simply belongs in a studio/bedroom setup. I would laugh at a sound guy that wanted me to plug into it.

😂 I did think that I’m amassing a bit of an analog Kemper now!

Bit late to the party on this video 😂 but is it possible run 2 amps into 1 speaker with this device? Cheers!

Interesting take! Hadn’t thought of it in that kind of use. Thanks for sharing.

GREAT JOB
Ohms, impedance matching?😅
