Great job! I’m visiting this week and no leaves yet so I should be able to see it. Loved your clarification on interpretive centers. People always need to understand where their information comes from and read multiples sources for an accurate portrayal. Sadly, most people do not. I encourage to keep your fire hose at the ready and douse the haters. Tell the truth, ugly bits and all.
Wheelchair access: My mother's family was born and raised at Roan Mountain. I visited the state park atleast once per year until my early '20's and try to get back that way every few years or so. Back to handicap access, I remember in the '90s there was a paved trail that goes out to the bluff overlook. I haven't been there in quite some time. But that's the wheelchair accessible trail I do remember.
I agree with you. We rode to Roan Mountain a few years ago while we were staying in Boone NC and the views just don't exist. I've seen great photo's from the trails which prove how great a place it is but a lot of us can't hike. I'm from VA. and even on the Blue Ridge parkway many of the overlooks are overgrown. Not sure its the park service is slacking its just that so many people see cutting some of the tree's as blasphemy..lol..Its not like they should just mow down tree's like crazy just remove some at the overlooks. I do hope to get back to Roan Mountain one day but I'll have to plan on hiking if I can. Thanks for the video.
We live in Virginia now. (Harrisonburg) We're on the Parkway all the time. We moved here four years ago and we were shocked at how some of the overlooks were overgrown. But over the past couple of years they've done a much better job. We've made a couple of 100 videos on Skyline Drive and Blue Ridge Parkway over the years. But still, it's weird up there. Things I just don't understand. But thanks for watching and thanks for commenting!
If you came into Carvers Gap from the Tenn side and Roan Mtn was on your right, you should have hiked up Grass Bald to the left. A super easy 1/2 mile hike with a very well maintained trail. Due to being over the Spruce forest tree line on top of the Bald you have a stunning 360° view that includes mountains such as Mitchell, Rogers (VA’s high point), and Grandfather. Personally it’s my favorite view in the entire Eastern US and you should definitely go back and give it a look. It will change your mind on the scenic aspect of this state park. I believe that we shouldn’t be clearing out the trees of protected wildlife areas just to create overlooks, this is why the Southern Appalachian Balds are the best!
Okay, my husband is in a wheelchair and I wouldn't even try to push him on that trail. Not me, not ever. It's all I can do to push him around to go to the doctor's office or Walmart. But, looks to me like they call it scenic is because you see green scenes (not the be confused with green screens). Don't think they (the state or our federal government) want to spend money on making it more scenic either. After all, the federal government spent a lot of money on investigating UFO's. lol. Rhododendrons are beautiful, and might I add they are the WV state flower. Since you are the creator of this YT channel, you have a right to say what you want, have your own opinion or complain to your hearts content. As long as you continue showing us these gorgeous "scenic views" and informative type videos we are with you. Take care and God bless!
I'm just hoping someone chimes in and tells me I missed it. Totally fine with being wrong. Just not sure why they wouldn't have at least one place that's accessible. Thanks for watching Bren!
That explains it! LOLOL Seriously, we couldn't find a single local anywhere on the top of the mountain that day. We kept talking to, well, not locals. Great place, and I want to go back this spring. I just need to know more before I go. Thanks for watching and thanks for commenting!
I like this video but you may have been a little disappointing > but that is an opinion. But none the less I love your videos. And the music. Would love to visit your area sometime. Keep up the great work.
Thank you Bill for the great insight. Appreciate your honesty and telling it like it is. Keep on keeping on and safe travels.
The Unakas (on the NC side) are where my family has lived for 200+ years. ❤❤❤
Roan Mountain looks amazing 🤩 thanks for the tour 👍
Going back next Spring. From what I I’ve heard, that’s when it’s happening!

Thanks for watching, but who's Sam?
Learn something new everyday ! We like your video's Mr. Bill.
Thanks Juan!
Thanks for speaking up. I hope I’m still able to enjoy our national parks if I were to ever lose my ability to get around easily.
This Area is So Beautiful
