    Wow I never knew the differences of HK Cantonese and GZ Cantonese. No wonder my FIL don’t know my Chinatown Cantonese. When I say Kai Jai he don’t understand. I have to say goo walk Jaii. No one in Chinatown say that. We call call gangsters as Kai jaii. Correct me if I am wrong. What kind of Chinatown Cantonese was spoken back then and GZ people don’t understand. I learned all my Cantonese back when I was 14 years old as a ABC don’t now much Cantonese and all my friends I hung out with back then are newly immigrants and I learn all the Cantonese from them. I learned how to watch HK movies, introduced to cantopop and much more. If I am in Chinatown now I will speak more Cantonese. I wished I could be more fluent to read the Chinese menu but I know more than the regular ABC. I was forced to go to Chinese school in Mott St. During the late 70s the teachers are allow to hit students. I only had 3rd grade Cantonese but dropped out after I begged my parents I don’t want to go anymore. But now I regret not learning more. It would be great to be able to read a lot of Chinese and speak fluently like Kenny.

      Think some Cantonese spoken back then in NYC Chinatown are an offshoot of Taishanese. Some will say Kai Doi in lieu of Kai Jai. The word All will be pronounced as All Lor. Police will be called as Luk Yee, which translated into Green Jacket b/c that's what the HK police wore back in the days before China took over. It's a cultural thing as Chinatown during the 60's and 70's are made up of Cantonese and Taishanese, you hardly hear any mandarin or Fujianese spoken.

      This segment gives the audience a more in depth, expanded and maybe even an honest experience of Mikes past. Kenny is a very good listener. I'm plugged in and waiting for the better productions value with A/V upgrades. lol. ty

    Kenny's Chinese is scattered with English for words which he doesn't know. Which is still better than me.

      Didn’t know there was a distinct accent between HK canto & Guangzhou. Is it certain phrases or words that tells you the difference or an actual accent?

    • @dyu8184
      @dyu8184 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@pcimprezzive HK Cantonese has 6 tones while it's 7 in Guangzhou style. It's very subtle, more apparent in the younger generation.

      Very very very easy to tell Guangzhou and Hong Kong.
      GZ people use "hai" and HK people use "lun"
      Mut lun see
      Mut hai see
      Lun yearng
      Hai herng
      Etc... works with about 90% of the time 😂

      I don't think it's an accent that makes the actual difference but rather, HK canto is often spoken with English words mixed in just like Kenny, but Guangzhou canto doesn't use it much.
