The central theme of the book of Zephaniah is the Day of the Lord. ' Zephaniah elucidates two major aspects of this central theme, judgment and restoration, and in both of these aspects Zephaniah evinces many parallels to the books of the eighth-century prophets.ㅡㅡZephaniah announces God's purifying judgment on Israel.
It will remove evil from among God's people and open up a new future where all humanity can flourish in peace.

The main emphasis is that God is at work and all His good deeds, including the construction of the Second Temple, are accomplished "not by might nor by power, but by My Spirit."
