Being a bald man, I don’t have a hair dryer, so I bought one today just to try this. I was convinced I’d wasted my money. But, it worked! Exactly as is shown here! Removed about 8 etchings from my blue MX. Thank you so much.
Just wanted to drop a comment and tell you thank you so much for this video, it saved me! We have a brand new M3LR, and with less than 150 miles on the clock a bird pooped right in the middle of the hood. It’s like they know. . . I tried other various methods, and the etching would not come off. I was watching videos on polishers and polishing compounds, which i figured would have to be my next step, although drastic and I was pretty nervous about doing it, for fear of messing something else up. I was just about to say to heck with it, I will just live with the etch, but then found a similar video that talked about using heat to remove. After watching that video, I then searched for others. Yours was the first to pop up, and i was happy to see that it was on a Tesla, which as you know are notorious for not great paint. I watched your video, and decided to give it a go. Grabbed my wifes hair dryer, ran an extension cord, and started slowly heating. At first it didnt look like it was working, but it turned out i was being too timid, had the hair dryer to far away and not heating enough. Moved it closer, and in the span of less than a minute, the etching started disappearing before my eyes! I stopped periodically to check it, and then applied more heat. All in alll, took me about 5 minutes of carefully heating and checking, and now the etching is GONE! Thank you for the video, and I am stealing my wifes hair dryer to include it in my car cleaning supplies going forward . . . ;-)
Lol great summary.. I normally park away from trees, however I was forced to park under one last week. Unfortunately with life being so busy I failed to check my vehicle, needless to say I’ll be using this same method tomorrow to remove theses stains.. I pray to Jehovah that it helps lol
I used your suggestion on my Range Rover and it worked perfectly. I’ve purchased loads of cleaning crap and unfortunately they didn’t work. Thank you so much from England.👍
I too was reluctant to believe a hair dryer heat would remove nasty bird poop stains from my brand new Blazer. The stain was etched in and the size of a 50 cent coin. I heated the spot moving the dryer up and down and it removed some of the deep etch but not all of it. I didn’t want to overheat the spot. Then I took a mild 3M polish and while the spot was warm I applied the polish to the stain and like magic it buffed up the clear coat perfectly. Like new! Etched stain all gone. I had to look at the results 3 or 4 times to believe what I had done. It works! I’m thrilled! Thanks for the great awesome tip!
Ok, this was an old post from you, but, My 2024 model 3 (highland) had what you showed, that remaining stain (stains) in the shape of the poop. Aghhh! Then discovered this video. Holy shit, the hair dryer technique works perfectly. Right down to also hiding the light scuff marks where I tried to remove the old poop. AMAZING!,! Thanks again!! 🎉
OMG you rock! Thanks so much for sharing this. I tried hair dryer first but didn't get hot enough it seems so went with heat gun on low setting being very careful and stopping once in a while to cool. The spots vanished!
Bird poop is a base which will liquefy your paint. I keep a ziplock bag with a vinegar soaked rag in my trunk and use it to remove any droppings as soon as I find them.
Wow that is all I can say! I tried a dedicated solution for bird poop but it had no effect. I took my hair dryer and kept it on medium heat for 30 secs and it vanished before my eyes! You are a life saver. Thank you!
worked on my 2022 RWD pearl white Model Y! I put my hairdryer on high setting because medium wasn't quite hot enough and i put it around 3-4cm away from the etching and waited around 45 secs to 1 minute and it just started to come off! thanks for the video!
I had multiple HUGE bird bombings on my new Model Y today when my wife was shopping. By the time she got home, I just happened to see it when I went out to rinse the car and the big stain spots had already set in. I tried the hair dryer…no luck. Then all the other “do this” suggestions from TH-cam which did not work. Then I borrowed my friend’s heat gun…and voila, stains are no more! So thanks for the pointing me in the right direction!
I just tried this method on a couple of bee droppings which had stained my paint after I’d removed them. My car is ceramic coated so I was pretty bummed.. then I found this video and now the stains are gone! Thank you!
Interesting approach so thanks for sharing. I'm surprised just having the car in the hot sunlight doesn't do the same thing though. I thought that it's either of two things - some volatile component of the bird dropping is absorbing/adsorbing into the clearcoat and the heat is 'boiling' it out or the clearcoat surface has been 'micro-etched' and the heat is allowing the clearcoat to reflow and smooth out the surface again. I thought clearcoats were crosslinked (usually not able to reflow) but I haven't followed paint chemistries for some years. A good outcome though whatever the reason. Cheers
I remember when this happened to my ceramic coated X3 and I just left it alone after a while. I noticed it wasn't there anymore and it was right on top of the hood so my guess is the sunlight must've evaporated it.
Thanx for recommendation. Works great and even the mark was in size like kids palm, after usage of hair dryer nicely mark has disappeared. many thanx again!! btw applied on my Volvo car.
Didn't work at least with my hair dryer..for me got the surface to 83°C at least four times and then let it cool & repeat 2020 Tesla model 3 Ocean Blu Pearl .. I believe heating up n letting it cool several times is the preferred method ? which I did... so it would have been helpful if you had measured the surface temp while you were doing the job so we can see what the temperatures get up too... So what is the safe maximum temperature the panels clear coat ?
Thanks, for the video. I have a model 3. Owned for 2 months. I have a bird or tree dropping stain. I tried with the same manufacturer as you and it did not work. I tried it for a minute or so. Maybe, I should try it longer. If you have any other suggestions greatly appreciated. I have tried Dawn and it did not work either.
@iowatesla since it has been a while since you did this video, was there any long term issues with this fix? or has it remained looking 'normal' after some time passed and gone thru a couple years of weather temperature changes? maybe an idea for a follow up video :)
Funny cause I came across this video searching for remedies to remove bird diarrhea. I keep my vehicle clean 98% of time , sleeping the other 2% . The stains are so noticeable and irritating to me that I was just about to buy $300 worth of buffing equipment & compounds to remove 3 spots on the hood that no one notices but me. 3am I’m outside with the wife’s blow dryer to my surprise this actually works . I think instead buying a DA polisher I’m going to Walmart purchase a nice hair dryer for my wife 😂. Thanks for the bird dropping hack

Hi, just did this on my model 3 (blue) and it worked, in that the white mark went, but I can still see a slight haze/dappling there. It’s barely perceptible though, and certainly not visible by anyone but me (my wife just rolled her eyes when I said I could still see something)! 😂 so I think it’ll probably do, certainly until I get around to getting the car polished at some point. So.....I've tried this. No luck. Even with a pro heat gun. I believe this only works if the etch damage is fairly new. I've tried polishing and it works....but then a week later it reappears. If this method fails you'll likely need to sand it out.
Honestly, I don't know. Maybe. Perhaps that's why I haven't noticed it on my other cars. Perhaps I just pay more attention to my Tesla. You may be correct.
These are pro solutions and good ones at that...... however it was a long weekend, a massive amount of Bird crap landed on my car and I did not want to let it sit for days or a week feeling it may do further damage. I had a white car. (Not sure what the outcome would be for a dark paint car?). The chunky part of the poop I got off. Not issue there. What was left was light green stains literally that looking like ink or something. I tried soap and water and a sponge. No change. I tried Turtle wax and some buffing. Did not help at all. I tried Baking soda and water. Did not do anything. I tried Baking soda and vinegar. Nothing. I tried Goo B Gone. No change... no effect. NOTE I chose a small bird poo stain for all these down near the side front fender in the most inconspicuous spot to test all these. In case any of them left some damage or abrasive marks in the paint. I recommend the same. If the situation allows for that. Finally what worked? A mixture paste of Oxy Clean Powder mixed plain hot water. Not so hot that it burns your fingers. I mixed it to a wet version of a paste. I tried applying and rubbing the stains using make Up Remover pads (those white round ones).... I tried a cloth.... it seemed the best way to do it was using my plain old fingers. I would apply a dollop and simply firm but a gentle firm.... rub it with my thumb or fingertips around and over each poo splatter. The more you kept rubbing the fainter and fainter the stain got. It does take some elbow grease and time. It took me around 45 to 55 minutes to do around 35 - 40 splatters ranging from the size of a dime to the size of a pea. But they all came out. Every now and then I would mist the whole area with water. You do not want the paste dry or chunky.... nor too thin.... a little wetter than toothpaste consistency. After I rinsed and rubbed everything with a soft towel and you could see some of the areas where I rubbed with the oxyclean but I am sure a going over with a good car wax with hint of rubbing compound would even out the small few areas I could see a bit of a difference in shine. Would I recommend this for anyone with a prestige car or Hot rod or show car? maybe not? But your everyday homeowner with a run of the mill regular car, SUV or whatever should find this to do the job. Again it is not the work of a pro like this author here but it worked enough for my liking on our white Honda Accord. Hope this helps. Note get bird poop off a car as fast as possible. @@iowatesla I will try tomorrow on my car. It is metallic black, brand new basically and there are like 4 spots where you can clearly feel the edge of the burn ... and clearcoat has small cracks in it being whiteish. I really hope it will work, I'll use a heat gun though
I have a nasty stain on my black model Y. The poop was about an inch in diameter and was only on the car for maybe six hours before i removed it but it left a nasty mark that you can feel clearly. A local detailer recommended a heat gun to remove bird poo stains so ill give it a go and report results.
Hi like you I have the same problem . I found a series of products that work ! check out hydro silicone products . It a rub on wipe off easy application that usually lasts me 2-4 months. I use their rewind and recharge products almost every time I wash the car.
@@iowatesla the name of the company is hydro silex. If you google you will find them. They have a large assortment of products for internal and external use .
Awesome tip, I’ve just used my wife’s Dyson hairdryer and completely removed three bird poop etchings that looked the same as those in this video from the bonnet and front wing of my 6 month old Kia E-Niro. Got close up (2-3cm) using the hottest setting and the etchings were gone in about 2 minutes.
I know! I would never have thought that heat would fix it. I figured the problem was caused from the sun baking it onto the car to begin with. Thanks for watching!
I surprised me. I never thought it would work but it did. Tried it again last night after I washed my car. Found 2 more on my hood. Hair dryer took them right off. Took about 45 seconds for each one.
Thank you! I’m try this when I get home. I’ve worked since I was 16 (34 now) and just bought my first really nice truck and having paid 62k (I know that’s not expensive to some but was a crazy amount to me) and only having it a month I noticed 3 small spots that look like bird droppings on the hood and couldn’t get it off. And was stressing over it and I’m to scared to wet sand or heavy polish for fear of messing the paint up in a bigger way. I’ll report back if it works for me!

@@iowatesla I will try tomorrow on my car. It is metallic black, brand new basically and there are like 4 spots where you can clearly feel the edge of the burn ... and clearcoat has small cracks in it being whiteish. I really hope it will work, I'll use a heat gun though
Interesting. Thanks for the video
Thanks!
Thanks a lot
Last week I bought rubber snake
To put on the dashboard
So far works
Will see
Amazing. Thanks for sharing this great tip 😀
I didn't think it would work but it did. Thanks for watching!
I have a nasty stain on my black model Y. The poop was about an inch in diameter and was only on the car for maybe six hours before i removed it but it left a nasty mark that you can feel clearly. A local detailer recommended a heat gun to remove bird poo stains so ill give it a go and report results.
Yeah this 100% worked. Hair dryer for a few minutes per stain (had three in total, two very large... maybe half the size of a credit card).
Definitely invest in PPF. So the bumper, hood etc.
I’m leaning in that direction. Didn’t want to pay the money when I first got the car. Thanks for watching.
Hi like you I have the same problem . I found a series of products that work ! check out hydro silicone products . It a rub on wipe off easy application that usually lasts me 2-4 months. I use their rewind and recharge products almost every time I wash the car.
Thanks. I'll check them out.
@@iowatesla the name of the company is hydro silex. If you google you will find them. They have a large assortment of products for internal and external use .
Black Tesla, doesn’t work for me ;(
Awesome tip, I’ve just used my wife’s Dyson hairdryer and completely removed three bird poop etchings that looked the same as those in this video from the bonnet and front wing of my 6 month old Kia E-Niro. Got close up (2-3cm) using the hottest setting and the etchings were gone in about 2 minutes.
It works
Wow!
My thoughts exactly. Thanks for watching!
How odd!
I know! I would never have thought that heat would fix it. I figured the problem was caused from the sun baking it onto the car to begin with. Thanks for watching!
Very odd. I would never have thought it would work. Thanks for watching!
Wow.
I surprised me. I never thought it would work but it did. Tried it again last night after I washed my car. Found 2 more on my hood. Hair dryer took them right off. Took about 45 seconds for each one.
Wow
Streich Isle
Thank you daddy
nicee
Agreed. I would not have thought this would have worked.
The long term solution is not to buy a Tesla in the first place
