Linus's genuine desire for his product to be as good as he claims it to be comes across here... I think it's brave to test your product live, definitely a shame when it reveals issues
@@jimmymcgill6778uhh yeah? It's a fancy ass bag. I don't see how selling a 600 dollar bag means he doesn't care about quality. Literally unrelated. The bag should be 600 dollars worth of quality.
Linus got really anxious after stabbing the ltt bag and not finding the second layer. It got hot for him, and took of the jacket, and drank water more than usual. It was a big surprise for him.
That's the shitty thing about getting stuff manufactured in China. Wouldn't be the first time I've seen/heard of a manufacturer over there making changes to save money without telling anyone
I know it's not the same thing but I believe Luke set him up with a free floatplane account and Linus gave him a bunch of lttstore credit. Again it's not the same but probably is a lot less complicated than international employment (at least I don't think timestamp guy is Canadian).
Its not the same. LTT is co owner of Dbrand in the same way Jerryrigeverything and a few other tech youtubers are. They technically ARE the company that is sponsoring them. It would be like Elon saying Fuck You to a Tesla advertisment, not as much of a risk as saying fuck Bob Iger.
Honestly, I think I prefer double thick over double layered, double layered feels like a hole in the bag after you wear through the first layer, whereas halfway through a double thick layer just feels like a slightly worn spot
@l@@lpm_3807 5 is the standard break point of Techs now? Scary. Thank you so much, sincerely, for the laugh that I have needed for a while. It has been awhile since I've laughed that hard.
For the fixed screwdrivers can you please make sure the size and shape of the handle matches up with spanners so that you can use a spanner for extra leverage (same as most other fixed screwdriver sets do)
the chinese factory also has their engeneers, unless they make their fixed screwdrivers in canada they will have to talk with engeneers in china@@robbie9435
To Timestamp Guy,.. I know you posted and it was removed by the YT gods forfeiting your hard work this week. So thank you for your effort - I know you -tired- tried.
Had I heard the buzz about Elon showing publicly once again he's a moron, I thought about him first, but a sponsor turning shitty in this day and age is a solid concern.
As a 38yro I've never purposely clicked on an add or used a promo code from a content creator. I use what ever platform that gives me the most entertainment and just ignore and treat the ads as the price I pay as a free user. Edit: I enjoyed the first part of the show with Linus being a Canadian Anarchist, politely creating chaos after acting like an American business leader fake pushing sponsors limits. Never change Lan Show! I'm not even in the Tech field anymore but I still enjoy Luke and Linus talking about Tech news and goofing around.
And on that note I've used Twitter a couple of times during covid and then promptly got rid of it when it was clear that outside of the rich and famous there is no engagement, no conversations, nothing is real. Same with promo codes and banner ads. Never touch or use that crap.
You know advertisers generally pay per click or per referral? Even where they pay per view, the rates get scaled according to the proportion who click, which is equivalent. So you aren't particularly funding creators by watching ads, you're just wasting your time.
You do have to click on an ad and buy a product for the creator to get paid. If you are never going to click on an ad and buy a product, you should find some other way to pay the content creator and the platform.
I sometimes use creater promo codes if its something i already was planning on getting at some point, i get a discount and they get a kickback, a win win
you get force fed propaganda wherever and whenever you allow any kind of suggestions nowhere is actually trying to offer an honest suggestion...not even just advertising its all a political ideological war and only the political ideological war
It's almost entirely based off of what content you react to. So commenting on that thing you disagreed with causes more things along the line of what you disagreed with to show up.

That would have to be the best ad for the LTT backpack you can get. If it can survive being used down in a coal mine (one of the dirtiest and toughest places out there) it can survive just about anything.
Got my LTT backpack, me being able to carry 2 laptops, 2 tablets, a steam deck, 2 Nintendo switch, a PS5, a NUC mini PC, and a thick book all together was awesome ❤
This might be a late message but at around 50:00 you can realy tell how much linus cares about how good he's products are produced and he found something or atleast thinks he found something he isnt happy about. Much respect to that as a consumer!
Linus don't apologize for believing in improvement and shooting for excellence. You and your team build a media brand and trying to go in to a manufacturer/store brand. Your product is a good quality because of your pride of become better than yesterday every day. Like the content not a fan of the celebrity but i share some of your human, ethical and, parental beliefs.
21:00 Shorting a stock is very simply borrowing the stock of someone else, selling that in the hope that you can buy it back later at a lower price to give it back to the entity you borrowed it from. It's a bet that the price goes down. As opposed to buying stocks normally is a bet that the price will go up. Remember that one still have to give the borrowed stock/share back, no matter what. So if the price is higher when you need to give it back; guess you'll just have to pay more than you sold the one you borrowed for and take the loss.
I work in the mining industry, and occasionally go to a site and go in the neighborhood of 2700 feet underground to work on equipment. You should see what anything that goes underground looks like when you get back to surface, and how long everything that can hold dust remains dusty even after cleaning it. I mean like your laptop keyboard becoming dusty again and again for weeks despite repeatedly cleaning. Never been to the area this guy is from, but I have been to Canada a handful of times.
Honestly, seeing how put out linus was by a potential issue with his product is probably the best advertisement ive seen for the quality standards of a brand i can remember.
@@ChedWick05Bruh. They apparently haven't done this at all in the past, even to a prototype. They don't have to cut every backpack they ship in order to know what the manufacturer understood "double thick" to mean from the assembly side.
I'm afraid I must insist. You see, my wife, she has been most vocal on the subject of the timestamps. "Where is the timestamp guy?" "When are you going to get the timestamp guy?" "Why aren't you getting the timestamp guy now?" And so on.
Same. I ended up buying a Fusion hybrid, but I'm still convinced that the volt is the best implementation of the idea, and I'm kinda annoyed that most us manufacturers aren't making sedans anymore.
Having worked in injection molding for a while, dye changes create a multitude of issues. In the end, the dye is just more plastic that has a color to it and it changes the physical property of the part being molded. You get under injection, over injection flashing, parts that stick to the mold stronger and get stress or hydraulic marks on them. Easy to see this today with 3d printers. Get two different color dyes from the same brand and print a size cube. There will be much more or a difference between them than you get same color variances print to print.
When you make the #3 flat screwdriver make the metal goto the end so you could also use the flat screwdriver as a wedge so you can hammer the back but it’s part of the shaft instead of through the handle.
Regarding that 'Cocreator' in MS Paint-there are plugins for a1111 and invokeai that will actually allow you to use it the way you wanted (you draw a squiggle and it fills in the details) and all that using free and accessible models/toolkits like stable diffusion (which you can fully run locally). I expected more from Microsoft...
I dont really have any strong opinions on Elon Musk, but Elon lives so rent free in Linus' head. It's one of the most pathetic mindsets that someone as accomplished as Linus could possess.
2:23:15 what's funny is velcro patches like that are actually a market segment already known as "morale patches" because standard military kit has tons and tons of velcro.
But the motherboard should be the mattress sheet that builds the base, shouldn't it? 🤔 No idea for the blanket then, though. Maybe cooler, that goes on top? 😅 Screen? (With OSD or a TH-cam player with an LTT video? - The video with the water cooled bed!?)
regarding hybrids and plug-in hybrids, there's an extra cost of servicing at an authorized mechanic while you can do the service on the regular car at your local mechanic for much cheaper. We took our VW Caddy to the dealership for a service and they charged us around 350€, a plug-in-hybrid like Golf GTE or Passat GTE will cost you well over 500€ (someone reported a 1000€) for normal service
Dealerships are almost never cheaper than a regular mechanic. Not sure what the exact needs are for a hybrid but I can't imagine they're much more complicated than the needs of a regular ICE powered car (change the oil, rotate the tires, check the batteries (don't EV batteries basically check themselves)). I could see dealers requiring you go to people that charge more in order to keep your warranty valid and/or car makers charging more for that authorized mechanic license.
@57:00 I've worked a lot with HDBase-T, it's wonderful technology IF your cabling is up to snuff and in most cases cabling fails on the PoE UBL specification and that's an issue mainly with the connectors. I've done some research and testing and found out that "toolless" field connectors with IDC contacts are better than ordinary that you use a tool to crimp. Produces way more consistent results with lower UBL, but to measure the resistance delta between the two wires of a pair needs very expensive network analyzer that needs to be calibrated... the leeway in that resistance is very VERY small. And you need to know what you're doing. Most off the shelf patch cables do NOT meet that specification at all and HDBase-T is more stringent than basic PoE devices that it really meets the spec, because the data rates are way WAY higher.
longer runs really benefit from those connectors too.... if youre gonna push your luck on a long run pick your route to stay away from power interference and use the metal tool less connectors....very noticeable improvement in error correction/speed/throughput etc
@@nster3"So you're saying HDBase-T is a great cheap stringent network tester? lol" Well... Kinda? :D The thing with UBL is that if there's enough difference between the resistance of the two wires, then a current is going to flow between them if PoE is being used. This will saturate the magnetic coils that are responsible for galvanic isolation in any Ethernet connections and data can't flow anymore. And the cable length has nothing to do with the issue because they're pretty consistently made, but the connectors on the other hand can be complete miss.
The problem with plug in hybrids is that none of them have as good of a drivetrain as the Volt. I have driven almost all of the others, and the Volt is the only one that doesnt switch to Gas if you press the pedal a little too hard
Hot take: the back pack probably has 2 layers of cloth at the bottom but perhaps out of an already compound material with glued together layers making it even more resiliant. Could explain why it was harder to cut through still. Although it does seem like something Linus would be well aware of in terms of material choice.
@@Enixious99 yeah, it's a reach, but it might be a change that wasn't considered too big and wasn't communicated all the way to Linus or something. Perhaps even improvised by the factory, but might have been approved by someone no longer at LTT. But it will be interesting to get an update on what actually happened.
@@Enixious99 it's common for Chinese factories to make changes to the design to save a buck. You have to be super vigilant that you actually get what you ordered.
Regarding the fixed-shaft screwdrivers - I hope the shaft will extend to protrude slightly out the top of the handle. Being able to strike it with a hammer to loosen stubborn or rusted screws can be necessary, and shafts that are not full-length usually means broken handles in quick order.
Me either. Timestamps are mandatory for me, when it comes to WAN show, it's just too long without it, and half the content usually doesn't interest me, personally.
Time stamps are a life saver: honestly love listening but I like the tech talk, I skip all the LTT store talk and product talk and it literally cuts the podcast in half. Wish more tech talks and less product talks :)
Sort of, from my understanding the Volt has a unique system where the gas engine actually does provide extra power when the car goes past a certain speed. There's basically a clutch that connects it to the same drive train so it's almost no gas drive train but technically some. That actually hurt Volt when it came to government backed discounts because it wasn't technically a plug-in hybrid even though it mostly acted like one. Technology Connections did a video on it a while back
The metallic screwdriver is just in time for Doctor Who's 60th Anniversary. We need an aluminum screwdriver with TARDIS Blue accents. And maybe some lights. Basically, and LTT Sonic Screwdriver.
One of my big features that a game took away was from Guild Wars 2. I loved the flexibility of movement when the game came out, but jumping apparently caused issues with PvP balance, so they basically heavily nerfed jumping to the point of cripling/removing the function. That was years ago and may be different now, but it killed my drive to play years back.
Do you people who need timestamps just not know how to scan around? I'm not trying to be an ass, but as a viewer who never cared about time stamps, can you explain? I just put the show on and listen throughout the day
@@thorwaldjohanson2526 LMG Clips? Patience until they made the chapters themselves? LTT is the only channel where I ever saw chapters in stream VODs. Most channels don't even care at all, so be grateful for getting something.
@@Novashadow115 it's easier with timestamps, you maybe watch the entire show. Some people don't want to watch the entire show and only care about parts that seem interesting. "Scanning around" on a 4 hours podcast is not easy.
From the advertiser's point of view, they're not trying to actively convince you to buy their product, because there's no reasonable argument besides price to be made about Widget X vs. Widget Y. They're just trying to create a sense memory so that when you are standing in the aisle trying to make that irrelevant decision between two functionally identical products, you are slightly more likely to choose theirs. Because fractional percentages are worth millions of dollars in bonuses to the executives making these decisions.
Make the visibility rain fly an option to velcro onto the pack and have a few options as to graphics and level of reflection. A flat piece of fabric can have multiple printing operations far better and cheaper than the entire backpack making the overall price better as well as providing the options to the customers.
Hybrids are just a bandaid patch, if your only reason for the negative is “lack of infrastructure” then it’s a temporary fix and instead we should focus on just building out the infrastructure for EVs instead of building hybrids.
1:45:31 my experiments with LLMs have me concluding that we're orders of magnitude away from it being a net positive benefit to software developers outside of chores. Depends a lot on how much novel work you do.
I’m pretty sure musk’s issue is that the advertisers colluded together to pull out all the same time and Disney was the main one and they’re literally telling him to censor his own speech for money
Chances are Linus and team don't know the full story. While they do have a dedicated writer for the WAN show doc it's entirely possible that everything they've read has only mentioned the original tweet and nothing else. It's certainly the first I've heard of a clarifying tweet.
Yeah that is probably why. The reason not many people know about the second tweet is no one is reporting on cuz all the big news outlets are owned by the same people that are pulling advertising from X
I don't plug in my Ford C-Max hybrid because I don't have a convenient way of doing so; no charger outside, and no working exterior outlet (the one outlet we have outside reports open neutral on my GFCI tester).
48:40 This will probably get lost in the chaos, but have you considered using those solid plastic/rubber bases that I've noticed some tool bag makers are using (Milwaukee for example)
@@HasPotatoAimMakes sense, rubber doesn't do that well in the cold because it becomes harder and more brittle. Rubber can also dry out fairly easily and can oxidize. I think car tires use some sort of blend nowadays.
As someone that plays trumpet, I am personally not a fan of raw brass. Over time, the patina of raw brass develops a really bad odor and will make your hands stink. If y'all want to have a gold-effect color option, I would strongly consider plating it with Titanium Nitride.
1:04:00 Some soft rubber coatings on screw drivers disintegrate after years of use. Please please make it super durable if it's going to have soft material on the grip.
Personally, nudity, well tbh society needs to grow up, alot of issues stem from people being more perverted by not being exposed to such things(psychologically it makes sense when you understand the principles). What should be promoted and encouraged is healthy sex and healthy sex habits, it would just simply fix a lot of issues.
I just ordered the screwdriver. I wanted the noctua screwdriver but I was worried about it getting dark scuffs on the handle if it got banged around. so I went with the black and orange model. Can't wait to get it.
I've had the same backpack for 7 years, I'm a Drayman/lorry driver. It cost £20 from local budget supermarket and apart from one zipper is still going strong. It's survived being kicked around a yard, being taken in and out of cellars, hanging up in a lorry.
@@draginator6 I do agree mate. But it has survived 7 years and hasn't been treated nicely. Heavy duty backpacks designed for manual labour work environments have existed for ages, one of those (like mine) would easily last that guy in mine longer than an overpriced fancy laptop back
2:27:00 I have a 2013 Volt with 321K miles with brutal food deliveries. Brutally dependable car. Will get about 37MPG if I were to never plug it in. The 2nd gen Volt that Linus has gets more like 41, plus lots more electric range. There is something about the engine that isn't as efficient as the Prius. The Prius weighs 3K pounds but gets 55MPG all day. 2nd gen volt about 3600 pounds but low 40s at best. It is probably the thermal efficiency and also 2:30:00 yes it leads with electric to make it feel more like an EV, which hurts efficiency because it is sucking from the battery, then recharging rinse repeat more intensely than Toyota's programming. But love the car, I bought another from Monroe Lee King.
Why not just design a ratcheting screwdriver with swap-able shafts instead of bits? Instead of having a long shaft and a bit holder in the end, have an stubby shaft about an inch long with swap-able shafts that are keyed to fit in it. Can even make a carrying case for all of the different shafts and also provide a shaft that can fit bits as well. It's a far more modular design.

Been working with a filament company testing colorants in flexible filaments. The amount of change to the filament is crazy

Luke's look at 48:15 is so telling "we shouldnt be doing this live, LINUS!"
Okay, so I'm guessing that the backpack is supposed to be dual layered in the bottom and we've discovered that it is not?

regarding hybrids and plug-in hybrids, there's an extra cost of servicing at an authorized mechanic while you can do the service on the regular car at your local mechanic for much cheaper.
So you're saying HDBase-T is a great cheap stringent network tester? lol
longer runs really benefit from those connectors too....
if youre gonna push your luck on a long run pick your route to stay away from power interference and use the metal tool less connectors....very noticeable improvement in error correction/speed/throughput etc
@@nster3"So you're saying HDBase-T is a great cheap stringent network tester? lol"
Well... Kinda? :D
The thing with UBL is that if there's enough difference between the resistance of the two wires, then a current is going to flow between them if PoE is being used. This will saturate the magnetic coils that are responsible for galvanic isolation in any Ethernet connections and data can't flow anymore.
And the cable length has nothing to do with the issue because they're pretty consistently made, but the connectors on the other hand can be complete miss.
Inertia is about the resistance to change in velocity. Momentum is about the conservation of velocity.

I highly doubt that after many samples and revisions they weren't all well aware of what materials they chose.
@@Enixious99 yeah, it's a reach, but it might be a change that wasn't considered too big and wasn't communicated all the way to Linus or something. The Volts gas engine only changes the batteries to run the electric motors that move the vehicle. There is no ICE drive train.
They're trash. I've had some good quality bags with them and they invariably crack or break, especially in the cold.
@@HasPotatoAimMakes sense, rubber doesn't do that well in the cold because it becomes harder and more brittle. Rubber can also dry out fairly easily and can oxidize. I think car tires use some sort of blend nowadays.
Never thought I’d hear Linus shout out WV haha, go mountaineers!
we all know what happens when you send Linus a prototype :D
As someone that plays trumpet, I am personally not a fan of raw brass. Over time, the patina of raw brass develops a really bad odor and will make your hands stink. If y'all want to have a gold-effect color option, I would strongly consider plating it with Titanium Nitride.
Time stamps guy please save us
Won't be surprised if someone fully models and rigs a Lucy for Luke now.
2:25 👀
Lmao 😂😂😂😂

Definitely doesn't seem like your backpack would suffer the same abuse as someone that loads there's with heavy dirty things daily.
@@draginator6 I do agree mate. But it has survived 7 years and hasn't been treated nicely. Heavy duty backpacks designed for manual labour work environments have existed for ages, one of those (like mine) would easily last that guy in mine longer than an overpriced fancy laptop back
Ads on the WAN show VOD is the first thing that has made me actually consider TH-cam Premium
Oof. $18 a month - Floatplane at $9 a month looks much more attractive
Ser? Where my timestamps at ? WHERE ARE MY Fck!n TIMESTAMPS ?? ( insert angry goose meme)
I think timestamp guy is late due to being undecided in how to describe some of today's segments. I'm just glad I'm already seated.
What we need are dinosaur body pillows.
Actual size?

This episode is somehow so much more unhinged than usual
