Awesome video, after looking carefully at the cables shown in this video and looking at the product description, I think there's an easier way for those with a small amount of know-how: And that's to splice into the cables by cutting the plug off which means it can be done with any old aux plug and bypasses the need to buy the product and wait for delivery. I'll try this tomorrow morning and I'm 95% sure it'll work.
Great video. I have the same stereo on my x5 and I have the same blue and white plugs but I don't seem to have the little black plug you connected into. I have an aux input in the back but doesn't seem to work?
Thanks, I was wondering what the extra connector was behind the monitor. Yo, ALWAYS unplug negative terminal battery before unplugging blue/white TV module connectors or MK4 Nav unit. First hand TV module fail due to this. Ive read the MK4 will fail also from this mistake. It really can mess up the equipment in these old machines.
I have a 2002 X5 UK model, I purchased the cable but unfortunately when I removed the navigation unit I didn’t have this extra connection on the wiring.
Kritical Kenji Hi Unfortunately not, think you can buy a device that connects in the boot by the CD player, this would require a cable to be run from the back of the car so no easy way.
Hi so I have e53 and when I took out the navigation screen, mine doesn't have that plug where I can plug in the aux input, I just have the wires that are disconnected, probably some previous owner took it out or something I don't know. Is there a way for me to see some instructions on how to directly connect it to AUX. I have like 5 spare wires that are connected to nothing and some of this must be for aux.
I have a 2002 bmw x5 3.0i I want to change the entire system with a pioneer, {with bluetooth etc.} instead of this cassette and cd in the rear. Problem is, no one has the proper harness. Do you have a solution?
helllo i install an aux cable to my 05.06 dated x5 e53. w/ 16:9 nav. Bought cable from aliexpress. I can't see the aux mode on my hu. Any advices? Thanks.
The only question I have(which may be a dumb one)is if it's compatible with Android as well? That plug in end looks odd from what I can tell, like an auxiliary cable won't plug into it.
I purchased the item. Followed the video to the T. Everything went as planned. Connected the aux cable purchased to the connector coming off the harness. However, when I finished I am not getting the AUX mode to show up! Pls help, what could possibly be the issue? I have a 2005 Bmw X5. Thanks
hey Jody, this allows you to plug an aux cable from your phone into the radio and play your music. Otherwise, there is no provision to plug into your stereo.
BIMMER ZEIT oh OK cool. What year and model do you have the vehicle. Mines is a 2006 BMW X5 E53 Sport Activity Vehicle. Under my hood on passenger side front of motor I have a connector there which has nothing on it. I think it was removed from vehicle I can't prove it I just know it was
If you don't have nav you'll need my other DIY here: th-cam.com/video/qxAGSuHMSVE/w-d-xo.html and you'll need to get an updated radio on eBay. The early model won't accept the aux kit unfortunately.

I was looking for a video for this yesterday, and here it is now. Kind of funny.
Thanks for watching Ian, hope it helps!
Thank you, thank you, thank you!!! The e53 has a nice sound from the CD but with AUX it is just awesome!
Once again, thank you for the helpful video!

Works like a charm super easy to install

Works with 2000 4:3 navi monitor M5 ??????
Is it also compactible with the pre-facelift version? Mine has a navigation but the car is made on 2002.
Hey, it works on E53 10/2002 and up. Check your radio production date, first slide the radio out and check the sticker
Hello, please show me what to do if there is no way out for this wire
I have a 2002 bmw x5 3.0i I want to change the entire system with a pioneer, {with bluetooth etc.} instead of this cassette and cd in the rear. Problem is, no one has the proper harness. Do you have a solution?
Would this work on BMW X5 E53 in London?
Does this kit fit with 2003 Range Rover (with dsp) ? ? ?
i want to use usual flash memory drive (USB), will it read this kind of drive ??? please answer, thank you in advance
Would this radio fit on a 2005 BMW X5 3.0i? It originally had a regular radio with no navigation display
Yes you should be able to retrofit the navigation screen in there, I imagine it would be quite some work.
hello,
is this a 10 pin cable ?
Annie 3 pin
Awesome work mate, I have the same X5 so it's always nice seeing stuff like this. What do you think would be the best way to install CarPlay?
Thanks pal, not familiar with CarPlay to be honest
There are also bluetooth ones which connect to your phone automaticly when bluetooth is on

Kahraman Batuhan Karaca Look at this video: th-cam.com/video/xYciRfdpZuk/w-d-xo.html
Did you disconnect the battery first?
You probably should, I'm sure BMW and techs would recommend it when working with electronics.
Link to buy the cable?
i have a 2001 e39.. is this the same ?
Progamer1453 you need to check what year radio you have. You likely need to buy a newer model oem radio
BIMMER ZEIT Its BM 54 65.12-8 385 897
i rebuild it and i see nothing :( ... can i do it in a differend way
The only question I have(which may be a dumb one)is if it's compatible with Android as well? That plug in end looks odd from what I can tell, like an auxiliary cable won't plug into it.
Not a dumb question. It works with all android and apple devices. You'll need a 3.5mm audio cable to plug into your phone and then into this cable.
Thx man. 👍
Thank you so much

What does this add on do to the overall factory system?

Do nav-equipped cars before 09/02 have this plug on the nav cable? Or would I need to run a new nav cable on my 10/01 530i?
If you don't have nav you'll need my other DIY here: th-cam.com/video/qxAGSuHMSVE/w-d-xo.html and you'll need to get an updated radio on eBay. The early model won't accept the aux kit unfortunately.
Sorry, I should specify. I have a newer BM53 radio, and a Mk3 nav w/ 16x9. Does my 10/01 530i have the appropriate connector behind the nav display?
Obviously, I could go look. Might go do that.
