Home to over 60 Buddhist temples, as well as the towering Great Buddha statue, Kamakura is the heart of Zen in Japan. Practiced by samurai and statesmen in Japan's feudal era, Zen Buddhism is still widely practiced today, and can focus the mind and calm the body. At this program, head priest of J ochi-ji Temple of Engakuji, Rev. Eon Asahina, comes from Kamakura to share his wisdom. He is joined by Pamela D. Winfield, Associate Professor of Religious Studies, Elon University, who will illuminate the unique history and culture of Zen in Kamakura.
Followed by a reception featuring sake from Kanagawa.
    Sake List:
    • Tensei Endless Summer Tokubetsu Honjozo
    • Tensei Song of the Sea Junmai Ginjo
    • Izumibashi Megumi Blue Junmai Ginjo
    • Izumibashi Megumi Red Junmai Genshu
    • Izumibashi Kimoto Junmai Kurotonbo
Guests will be able to admire and purchase select pieces of kichu-yo pottery, crafted in a traditional climbing kiln in Kamakura by ceramic artist Kifumi Kawamura, and kamakura-bori lacquerware from the 120-year-old shop Hakkodo in Kamakura.
Get to Know Japan Series: Kanagawa is co-organized by Kanagawa Prefectural Government.

Thanks for the video. I have lived in Japan about 20 years and now live near Kamakura. I'm trying to learn more about the history there so this was useful. Some of the questions you got seemed to get lost in translation, so I would have liked the moderator to follow up a bit more. E.g. the question about what the monk thinks about modern politics or if they have any relationship to the state, he didn't really answer. And didn't have any comment about environmental issues or any specific topics unfortunately. I imagine many of the temples are more about the culture and tradition these days more than active philosophical discussions but I don't know.

I have a doubt in my heart and I hope the master will be kind enough to solve it for me. This girl translating what he says - is she single? I want to look at her and listen to her voice for the rest of my life, please. Thanks.
