Say, can you make more YM2609 covers of old PC88/98 soundtracks, such as the Touhou series, Rusty, Grounseed(since the YM2609 was made by Ryu Umemoto), Ys, and the Streets Of Rage 1&2 and Revenge Of Shinobi soundtracks(since those 3 soundtracks were programmed on the PC88 using the OPNA)?😄
@@ashkirby8896 I do have plenty more cover ideas planned for the YM2609 (and a few of them are indeed from the Ys series). Sadly, I'm not really planning on covering Umemoto for a while, though the idea of a YM2609 version of some of his Grounseed stuff is intriguing. Maybe someday. ;)
Dumb question, but exactly what was the YM2609? I've heard of the YM2608, which featured 6 four operator FM channels, 3 geometry synthesis channels, and an adaptive PCM percussion section, and was used by NEC and Fujitsu in their desktop computer projects, and by Taito, Toaplan, Irem, and Sega in arcade games, but I haven't heard of this chip. Bast on the note monitor, it looks to be quite a powerhouse, though. Was the YM2609 used in some obscure keyboard, synthesis box, sound card, or arcade hardware?
YM2609 is a made-up soundchip actually. Ryu Umemoto used the term for some modern remixes he made of his songs from the game "Desire." In practice, he just used some VST synths in a DAW, but the idea was that it was supposed to sound like as much a boost to the YM2608 as the YM2608 was to the YM2203. The creator of MML2VGM just actually made that soundchip a thing, and added extra features on top of the channel layout that Umemoto had originally specified. Someday I do wanna make a video going over it, 'cause it seems like a lot of people are asking what a YM2609 even is lol.
@@spoonybard13 the funny thing is that MML2VGM doesn't fully support CSM mode functionality (upon timer overflow phase is reset but envelope isn't put into release phase as it actually happens on OPN/OPN2/OPNA). Maybe I will fix it someday. It is extremely exhausting to port the emulator to C++ so it becomes a standalone thing that can be connected to some tracker or other program, but I hope eventually I will finish it.
Those are impressive FM Organs!
Nice!
Nice job sequencing and mixing this! It sounds better with this chip than the instruments used in the Brandish MIDI Collection.
This is hard!! NICE!!!
This song is new to me, so I gave the original a listen, but I think yours is better
i recommend looking up to more covers, there's always something you'll be happy to be able to find
Nice YM2609 cover and remakes of the song, and it sounds super close and faithful and even way better than the original song!😄🤩😎👌
