    To clarify, A 2,5 Swaped Turbo Mazda 3, is relatively reliable can hold 380WHP, A 2.5 Speed swap will be less reliable, but still plenty reliable.

      Old comment but the reason is because they didnt reggaped the rings on the 2.5. I dont know anything about ring gaps but if im not mistaken, the 2.5 rings are too tight for boost thus creating scoring on the cylinder walls and ultimately destroying the ringlands, my friend has a 2.5 swap and repalced the rings and he made sure to reggap it for boost.

    • @LifeOfTuners
      @LifeOfTuners  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ahhhhh right thanks for this, that's quite probable I'd assume, I also know the 2.5 don't have a forged crank, but I'm sure you wouldn't need a forged crank to go above 380whp

    Been doing 2.5L swaps on 2.0L, 2.3L Mazda3's, Focus for years with lots of success. It takes a bit of fabrication to swap those particular engines to 2.5 because of the much larger ports in the heads vs the intake and exhaust manifolds, but it works great plus you add an instant 20hp or so.
    In my 25 years of racing experience, engine building as a certified technician in Canada, non-turbo builds like this are far more reliable as a daily driver and MUCH CHEAPER to build and maintain. It is true here in Canada as well, a 2.5L from a Ford Fusion is less than $700 from my local recycle yard.
    This is for 2.0, 2.3 and 2.5 swaps, non-turbo upgrade for those looking to get more power and maintain reliability of their daily grocery getter!
    Personally, I have a 2010 2.5L hatchback that I built about a year ago. I did it because everyone on internet chat groups, YT comments said it was a waste of time, a poor engine platform, go buy a Speed3 etc etc. That sounded a lot like a challenge to me!!!
    I started with a 2.5L Ford Fusion (130K) engine that I picked up at the local scrap yard for $600. I massaged the intake and exhaust ports, performed a balance shaft delete, installed a port matched custom 4-2-1 long tube header (1 5/8") that I had to fabricate, along with an anti-reversion chamber to take even more advantage of the massive torque these engines create. (Mazda guys we all know these items are not available for purchase so I was forced to fabricate them). Installed an injen SRAI, brand new MAF and wideband HEGO, a 2 1/2" custom catless exhaust, intake manifold from the Ford Fusion ended up working out far better than I imagined, eliminated the IMRC which was a GOOD thing in the end.
    I Installed a Speed3 hood and fabricated a true sealed ram air intake chamber that pretty much eliminates hot air from the engine while providing heaps of outside fresh air!. The ECM is tuned by Dynotronics (great tune but was hard to get them to respond to tickets for re-flashes once I went through the process the first two times, sadly).
    The key speed ingredient to my Naturally Aspirated 235hp 2.5L Mazda3 sleeper is higher flow injectors! We all know that high flow injectors aren't available for these engines, however, I found them and do have a limited supply. They make a HUGE difference in how the car pulls. It took me nearly three days of searching every corner of the internet knowing something would work! I never give up on anything in life and eventually was rewarded! These injectors are a MUST for ALL Mazda3 2.5L tunes. The injectors were the final addition to the swap/build, and I can say from experience that your 2.5L build will NEVER reach it's true potential without these higher flow injectors. As soon as they arrived I was like a kid at Christmas, went right out and installed them. I noticed a HUGE difference as soon as I pulled first gear after leaving the driveway.
    This car pulls the 1/4 mile in approx 14.5s and 0-60 is right around 6.0s (Dynotronics, mazdaedit software recorded and backed up with a drag race against a Scion FR-S and a Honda Accord V6 Coupe (std). Compare that to the stock 15.89 and 7.52 that I recorded at the track before this covid crap.
    Sorry for the long essay but just putting this out there that I can supply injectors and fabricate an identical custom header if anyone is interested.
    If you'd like proof of the build I can send pics and video as well. Thanks for taking time out of your day :) Never Lift!!!

      I have its brother, I have the 2010 Ford Fusion with the Duratec 2.5 (175hp) with the same Mazda 6 speed manual transmission. It is pretty decent for what it is. The 2005-2012 Ford Fusion and 2005-2012 Mazda 6/Mazdaspeed 6 use Ford's "G" body chassis. Almost all of the major components, engine, transmission, suspension, exhaust, and even the door/fender panels are interchangeable. That said, the 2.3 turbo "Duratec" engine is from the same family as the 2.5 Duratec engine. The 2.5 is just a stroked and ported version of the 2.3. Almost ALL of the parts are interchangeable and bolt on to each other, except a few minor sensors and the throttle body. I plan on installing a Mazdaspeed 6 turbo, intercooler, intake manifold, exhaust, and a lot of other parts to make it a "Sleeper Build". I have already installed MS6 coil overs, brakes, engine mounts, and waiting on a MS6 short throw shifter at the moment to arrive. My Fusion is called "Project Confusion" because it will surprise people on how fast it will be when I'm done with it.

And you could drill and tap the back of the block where the 2.5 mark is use -10an with 1/2 inch npt makes for a cleaner look then you need 36" oil feed line. But if you plan on building that 2.5 just use the 2.3 block 2.5 crank,rods,pistons and sleeve block with darton sleeves and bore out to 89mm go with speed performance 2.5 piston and rod combo and xspeedfab 2.5 tining chain kit

      That is true, but the 2.5 crank can still hold plenty of power. I didn't say I'm the video, but the reason what makes the 2.3 weaker then we'd ideally hope is because it's stroke is quite long, compared to its bore. The 2.5 has an identical stroke with a wider bore, making it less willing to bend a rod

    Yes 2.5s are cheaper and provide a bit more torque. But also are weaker blocks. Cant hold as much power and torque as a 2.3 and ultimately are a bit of a cop out. There's a reason they're cheaper and it's not because it's a good idea.

    • @Jonzeyx
      @Jonzeyx 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Just to clarify, I know Speed bottom ends are only really good for 380-400 wheel out the box but built we all know they can handle 1000+. And considering 2.5s are still only good for about the same out the box, with a little more torque, what's the point? Fair enough putting a 2.5 in a regular 3/6 but they don't belong in speeds. They'll be just as problematic and finicky as 2.3's at 350+whp

    • @coachwhitford7315
      @coachwhitford7315 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm in your camp.
      This is for 2.5 swaps, non-turbo upgrade for those looking to get more power and maintain reliability of their daily grocery getter!
      Personally, I also have a 2010 2.5L hatchback that I built about a year ago. I did it because everyone on internet chat groups, YT comments said it was a waste of time, a poor engine platform, go buy a Speed3 etc etc. That sounded a lot like a challenge to me!!! Basically it was a father/son build that he enjoys driving everyday. We did a bunch of body mods and installed Raceland suspension, looks as good as it drives.
      I started with a 2.5L Ford Fusion (130K) engine that I picked up at the local scrap yard for $600 .... (nothing wrong with the original engine, just wanted to drive it while doing the engine build) I massaged the intake and exhaust ports, performed a balance shaft delete, installed a port matched custom 4-2-1 long tube header (1 5/8") that I had to fabricate, along with an anti-reversion chamber to take even more advantage of the massive torque these engines create. (Mazda guys we all know these items are not available for purchase so I was forced to fabricate them). I installed an injen SRAI, brand new MAF and wideband HEGO, a 2 1/2" custom catless exhaust, intake manifold from the Ford Fusion ended up working out far better than I imagined, eliminated the IMRC which was a GOOD thing in the end.
      I Installed a Speed3 hood because I wanted to fabricate a true sealed ram air intake chamber to eliminate hot air from the engine while providing heaps of outside fresh air. Had the ECM tuned by Dynotronics (great tune but was hard to get them to respond to tickets for re-flashes once I went through the process the first two times, sadly).
      The key speed ingredient to my Naturally Aspirated 235hp 2.5L Mazda3 sleeper is higher flow injectors! High flow injectors aren't available for these engines, however, I found them and do have a limited supply.
      Sorry for the long essay but just putting this out there that I can supply injectors and fabricate an identical custom header if interested.

      @LifeOfTuners  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Right bro, just get a MazdaSpeed turbo setup, stock manifold, perhaps an aftermarket front mount with piping, an aftermarket bov, ms3 intake etc, but get a turbo that's for MazdaSpeed but slightly bigger, you can use a stock MazdaSpeed turbo, but it'll feel too small for the engine. You'll also need lines and fittings for oil feed and drain for the turbo, which means drilling into your oil pan. Oh and a tune of
      This is all very rough, but it should give you a good idea what goes into it
