Found this video before I got a scooter and I’ll say it literally saved my life, I was “hit” by a car that didn’t indicate it was crossing 4 lanes of traffic to pull into their apartment complex and I’m still here because I was able to shift my body weight to help slow myself down just enough to hit the car and not be full on hit by the car. You’re incredible and I had to find this video again so I could subscribe.
The video is great but I personally think that if someone actually doesn't know any of it then they shouldn't even be on a scooter in the first place It's all just common sense but unfortunately even in this day and age a lot of people are missing it

Thank you for explaining the weight distribution and the lean when turning. I was terrified riding my scooter today for the first time. Tomorrow I will feel less anxious. Thank you!
Got my Apollo ghost a few days ago and put almost 60 miles on it and love it . I liked your turning and cornering portion was helpful thanks been playing with those skills the most
Thank you for making the video! I haven’t ride a bike for more than 20 years. Now I bought an e-scooter and I’m learning to balance my body. This is very helpful I feel like a kid again 😊
Terrific video! Thanks for taking the time to put this together in such a professional manner. If I could add one thing --- look in the direction you want to turn. Don't stare straight ahead, normally, you will go where you are looking. Learn to do this when you are first starting out and I will guarantee you that your comfort level in making those tight or higher speed turns will increase significantly.
Thank you so much for this simple, yet effective video. Especially with the body cam and the other angles. I have an anxiety about driving or being on roads in general but for my new job, a scooter might be the way to go and I have gone from 0% knowledge to about 80% now so, once again, thank you.
Thanks for this. I just got a scooter with a very high acceleration, 0 to 15 km/h in just a second in gear 1 so I always kinda leave my soul behind when going. I just have to conquer my fear of going fast and leaning to turn 😅
My brother has a escooter he allowed me to ride it and surprisingly i can ride it😅 this video has helped me out even more thank you so much for this content 😊😊
@10:45 you mention that you lean & turn to the direction you wish to go .. this is very true and common when riding a bike beit an ebike or regular pedal.
Hello from Melbourne, Australia. Always have enjoyed your videos. One thing I had to learn when I first started riding was brake distribution. A newer rider grabbing a handful of front brake in an emergency stopping situation is not ideal, even with leaning back while braking. Having an understanding of how to apply each brake with correct force would be beneficial to new riders to learn and avoid going over the front of the scoot. Keep up the great videos.
Great point. That's something that did cross my mind when making this video and probably should have covered here. Not sure how your bike brakes are routed in Australia, but lots of scooters have the rear and front brake routing switched when compared to bike brake routing here in the USA and lots of first time riders will accidently lock up the front brake thinking it is the rear brake and send themselves over the handlebars.
Hi. My trek MTB and Weped Fold are both left rear, right front. However my sons Mantis Pro 10 is the opposite. Not sure if factory set, or repairer did that when stem was replaced a while back. I was almost caught out big time taking the Mantis out earlier this week when braking especially going from drum brakes on the fold, to the discs on the Mantis. This is what got me thinking about this when I saw you video.
Thanks for this man! I just got done with my first ride and got thrown over the handlebars like 4 times. I think I was definitely turning the handlebars too much while trying to turn!
@@willsanderson8561 dude something's missing in this story or something missing in you you said super flat and you didn't notice it? Four times? I was so close to getting one too but I heard their customer support weren’t so great. I didn’t want to deal with the hassle if something happen to the scooter so I got the mantis pro se from voromotor. Loving it so far and customer support has been pretty good so far.
Many thanks for this video. I'm interested in some of the local escooter trials in my city and from watching a few videos this is the most practical and clearest one I've seen.
I appreciate this video I have a couple e-bikes but just ordered my first e-scooter from a recommendation of yours so these tips and extra knowledge is a real lifesaver thank u and stay safe out there
I'm getting the Pegasus on Monday and I haven't been on 2 wheels since my knee injury. This will be interesting getting back knowing I have to ride normal when I'm goofy foot because I can't load weight on my left knee when it's bent. So I'll be kick off goofy foot and switch once in motion.
my mother suddenly taken interest in electric Transport, specific bikes and scooter for my Uncle as she see it as a amazing transport for him. and then make me intrigued on the same topic, we in the same keyword here; suddenly, went to a electric transport dealer shop; and man, it felt being 6 year old riding a nice little kiddy bike. as im a full supporter on 4 wheel cars so i have completely unfamiliarity. but man, i underestimate how good the scooter speed felt, almost wheelie it.
My Plug scooter has push to start or throttle from zero start, also it has electronic cruise control! I like that, and with the rear suspension, I don't have to keep my knees slightly bent to absorb the shocks.
Alternatively if you used a regular scooter as a kid like i did and you also use your right foot to push yourself then i guess that mean your left one should be the one to be to the front side. Not sure if that's any useful but it's something that came to mind as RK9 Rides is explaining at 2:00
Personally I think Zero Start can be a bit dangerous and I recommend disabling it, especially on higher power scooters. I have a Hover 1 Pioneer, which is kick start only, and I do have to admit the 3mph speed is a bit high. When riding slowly, like in a very tight or crowded place, it is easy to 'stall' the scooter, where you slow down enough so that you have to kick again to get going. However, on the Varla Eagle One, you barely have to get the scooter rolling for it to engage, its less than 1mph, so the stalling issue is completely gone and it is easy to ride at low speeds. It is easy to hit the throttle by accident, especially on a finger throttle, and with a high powered scooter like the Eagle One, you can easily cause damage, hurt yourself or anyone in front of you. I really think scooters should have a button similar to hoverboards that gets pressed down only when a rider is on the scooter, so if you're not on top of it the throttle gets disabled. Basically a dead man's switch.
I personally really like zero start and find kick-to-start scooters frustrating, but you should do what you feel most comfortable with. Luckily, many scooters have the option to turn zero start off and on so there is a bit of flexibility. Kick-to-start is basically your proposed dead man switch. You have to be on the scooter and moving to active the throttle. I think having a dead man's switch on scooters would cause more problems than it solved. I honestly don't find myself accidentally activating the throttle when I don't want to, but that's just my personal experience. Just my two cents, thanks for commenting :)
Zero start is the first thing I disabled. I set mine to 3 km/h and it works fine and it just eliminates having accidental throttle. I also turned my acceleration way way down and now I get a smooth ride, my bike was just too aggressive by default.
Thanks for sharing! I just started to ride on my escooter and I felt nervous when I ride next to the car road because of scaring I can't control my scooter and hit the cars
This really helps a lot. Turning left or right also reminds me on the car when you want to park. It is the same tecnique of leaning i think so. In any way, this will help me cuz tomorrow i want to buy my first scooter and i have never driven. Thanx so much. I have seen this video a few times, i will do again😂. Thanx
I crashed yesterday, I thought I could make the turn at the speed but even though I was leaning and turning like crazy I realized I wasn’t gonna make and and I was gonna hit a car so I realized I needed to slow down and stop turning or else I would hit the car, so I pulled both brakes and it slowed down but it still hit a curb since I stopped turning and I fell. This crash was a necessary experience.
Yeah i came to watch this after i ate shit this morning trying to ride. Weight distribution was clearly my problem. Also good to note that ill get more comfortable over time
Good video. Wish I saw it before I got my scooter😂, but I practiced safely in my condo's garage before taking it on the streets. I'm still nervous with taking corners. Can you show the best way to make tight turns, please? Your wide turns would get me killed on the city streets. Also, another tip to add is to learn back when going across cracks and potholes.
I don't know how civilised they are in the US but, such videos pretty much shows it. If I were to attempt to make this tutorial out here in Poland, Poles would have rushed down to the park hurling all kinds of racial slurs & literally walking into my frame just to ruin the video, I kid you not. I know how much I have to edit out when making videos.
Thanks for the tips. Can you do something for scooter riders who go too fast around bikes and pedestrians and put lots of innocent people in danger? I have had many close calls with e-scooters because their riders never say they are there and they have no devices like bike bells. They just hope everyone always stays exactly where they are and never does anything unpredictable like lean one way or move their arms etc.
