This seems like a dream sequence to me. He said the album is about his emotions through the pandemic and him facing his own feeling and self talk. I wasn't sure about the song at first but after a couple of listens it has grown on me. His performance on the Late Show got me. Now, I really love the song and appreciate him sharing this part of himself with us. BTW, this does seem to be an inclusive mv of all identities and the pants he has on in the bathroom scene has pictures of Mapplethorpe on them. A definite knod to the LGBTQIA community. I love it.
Don't understand why people need to over analyse a song on the first listen, just take as much as you can and enjoy it the first time. Although this song has a deeper meaning, I don't care, I just take all the positives and interpret what it means to me. That way I can enjoy it as a clubbing relaxing song. At the same time if I choose to appreciate the real meaning of the song when it suits me. I didn't even care about the subtitles on the first listen. This song is a master piece however you choose to view it.
I absolutely love this song. It really encapsulates that feeling of trying to disassociate from reality, of trying to carry on knowing full well its not going to last. Jimins voice is gorgeous, looks gorgeous and I am in love. The synth sound is totally my thing too so this is going to be played to death
Jimin has said this whole album is about his experience during the pandemic. To me in his dream he was still living his life but when he was awake he was in the loneliness of the lockdown.
I adore this song 😍 it gives me 80’s vibe and I love 80’s music. He sounds so good on this type of track I was actually amazed how much i fell in love with it ❤
♦Jimin mentioned that one of his fav movies “Like Crazy” inspired parts of the song aside from the title of song. In the beginning as well as ending to the song, he even samples excerpts from it. Jimin has also said that many of the songs on the album convey what he was going through, his thoughts, his feelings, his emotions as well as despair & depression, during the pandemic in the last few yrs. He also was hoping that maybe he could help others by way of relating & going through similar difficulties during pandemic. So this song Like Crazy, could also be during that time, thinking back while laying his head down, on table in that depressing small room, dreaming of the better times in the past, when he was free to be able to go out & enjoy himself, as well as being with someone, or with friends, or even around ppl in general, being able to be free to go out & party as well. Which is why he even said during his dream state, please don’t wake me up from this dream. I want to stay here.. Maybe that was what all the dirty grimyness also represented, despair of situation, how he felt or how things were at that time, even when it seemed to even ooze into his dream state.
at the first listen I didn't know how to feel about the song and I thounght that it just wasn't for me but now "Like Crazy" it's actually my favorite song from the album! it gets better with every listen!
If you have ever watched "Saturday Night Fever", where Travolta's character is having the time of his life showing off his dancing skills at the local discotheque one night, but then you cut to the next scene the following morning waking up in bed, reality comes back to him as he has to go back to work. The excitement, music, crowds & vibe are gone & now just another memory. This is sort of like what is happening here. Jimin is like crazy partying & drinking, then has to come back to reality the next day. Someone says the mud can represent "depression". But you are correct, the music is 1980's synth-pop, synth-rock, new-wave, etc. I lived through that era too. With the British music invasion of the late 1970's & early 1980's came the appearance of many synthesizer-heavy bands from the UK as well as from the US & other countries that dominated music charts because of the new sound of the synths ... Pet Shop Boys, Human League, Tangerine Dream, Depeche Mode, Thomas Dolby, Spandau Ballet, Tears for Fears, Howard Jones, OMD, Thompson Twins, Erasure, Ultravox, Missing Persons, Berlin, Kajagoogoo, Eurythmics, Bryan Ferry/Roxy, TheYazz & so many others, who used synths as a major instrument/sound. Maybe even a touch of Vangelis (RIP), who I am a long time fan of. Some are saying this also sounds like one of TheWeeknd's songs, but I do not listen to him so that is a not a reference point for me. However, if he is doing this kind of sound, that means his reference point is also of the 80's. Modern Chillwave, Ambientwave, Synthwave, etc which are subgenres in EDM are also throwbacks of the 1980's. The evolution & maturity of keyboard synths in those days made them cheaper to build & made smaller, & thus cheaper to buy, from when they were heavier & bigger in the 1960's & 1970's. Because synths got more portable as instruments, they became an additional instrument for artists to include in their gear. I am also aware & listen to 1970's synth artists, such as Jean Michel Jarre, Tomita & the aforementioned Vangelis. These days I also play with synths, but primarily as virtual instruments, i.e. VST & VSTi, using MIDI. But that is the "sound" here, one of the iconic "sounds" of the early 1980's, or all of the 80's, because that is when that sound began. Thanks to Jimin for helping bring it back, if only for just a brief moment. Some times I do wish to dream & stay in the 1980's, because of my youth. Don't you wake me, I need a way to dream on. :)
Hi, i am back. Good reaction, ty. Glad u like the song too Jenny. Loved Set Me Free pt.2. It's catchy. I love this one as well. He sounds so good. It's so catchy. Love the fit and visuals. Adore this 80s synth pop sound. So much hidden meaning in this. I was shocked by this MV. There is choreography, he performed it on Jimmy Fallon. =0) His album is about his feeling about the pandemic. So i try to see that in the songs. Him singing that he wants to be in the lights to me he is saying he wants to be on stage. Reading armies theories and more details from what Jimin has shared about this song I get a better understanding of what he is trying to say. Jimin is also too sexy in this. Gah. To me Jenny was closer to the meaning. Erin had some parts connecting but not overall. I didn't watch the movie but I heard that the movie has a sad and realistic ending so actually the song 'like crazy' is NOT meant to mean anything sensual but actually something sad...I think a lot of people will probably misunderstand the song
