If it's any consolation, my perspective as a white woman is this: You all may notice these nuances within the black community, but as an outsider looking in, it looks like you guys have never been able to be broken. Compared to the white population, black people have incredibly tight communities, close families, positive outlooks, and deep loyalty. I learned in parenting class that there are very few black children in foster care compared to white kids. That's because there is almost always someone in the family that will take responsibility, even if they can't. White people don't do that. And even today, as close as you all are, you're still saying, "we need to be better." The entire community comes together. In my opinion, it's a blessing to share a country and a neighborhood with you guys. I love black people. A lot of people do. You're the epitome cool, wear nice clothes, and have great humor. I have one request though. I have a niece mixed with black and she came home one day and said that her friends at school said that "going to school is acting white." My heart sank. Do you know the kids are saying this? The last thing I would ever want is for her to have to choose between being black and getting an education. Education is power. Work smarter not harder. Ill give one example: The document claims to be written in 1712... however the word "refuel" and "foolproof" were not in the English vernacular at the time. Refuel appears in 1811 and foolproof around 1900. There are many other discrepancies. Any scholar knows this but the letter is written to people who may not really know the history or etymology so well. It speaks of the methods working in "the south"{i.e slaveholding states}. Problem is that in 1712 there was no "south" as we came to know it later. You just had the colonies, they all had slaves and NY had the largest population of slaves at the time! You all may notice these nuances within the black community, but as an outsider looking in, it looks like you guys have never been able to be broken. Compared to the white population, black people have incredibly tight communities, close families, positive outlooks, and deep loyalty. I learned in parenting class that there are very few black children in foster care compared to white kids. That's because there is almost always someone in the family that will take responsibility, even if they can't. White people don't do that.
And even today, as close as you all are, you're still saying, "we need to be better." The entire community comes together. In my opinion, it's a blessing to share a country and a neighborhood with you guys. I love black people. A lot of people do. You're the epitome cool, wear nice clothes, and have great humor.
I have one request though. I have a niece mixed with black and she came home one day and said that her friends at school said that "going to school is acting white." My heart sank. Do you know the kids are saying this?
The last thing I would ever want is for her to have to choose between being black and getting an education. Education is power. Work smarter not harder. Man, you mufuckers are so damn passionate - especially if you have WORDS you can spit some truth!

Ill give one example: The document claims to be written in 1712... however the word "refuel" and "foolproof" were not in the English vernacular at the time. Refuel appears in 1811 and foolproof around 1900. There are many other discrepancies. Any scholar knows this but the letter is written to people who may not really know the history or etymology so well. It speaks of the methods working in "the south"{i.e slaveholding states}. Problem is that in 1712 there was no "south" as we came to know it later. You just had the colonies, they all had slaves and NY had the largest population of slaves at the time! We all know New York is a northern state.(SEE NY slave revolt of 1712).MY issue with the letter is that if you are trying to teach lessons via parable, myth or story, then let it be known and don't insult our intellect by presenting such nonsense as fact.Imagine if Aesops fables were presented as fact; you wouldnt look at them in the same way.
