The AVS 2 shines on the street, off idle. I put one on my Dart Sport last summer, and yeah heat soak is an issue even with a phenolic spacer. But it works so nice around town. It's not a race carb at all really.
I wanted to see this!!! 12:87 is not that bad for your budget built 360. Now the 9 second 143 MPH care you ran next is in my league. But I am impressed with your build. Keep it up. Just so you know I never listen to other people that much, "out of the box" is what people use when they cannot tell the truth about anything.
This was a great video real testing at the track like it should be, no fake dyno numbers and real et slips, this is what I always talk about there's no argument here and thanks for mentioning the old carburetor in this test it shows people don't have to spend money for new technology sometimes thanks for sharing with us 👍
Very impressive for out of the box no dyno no tuning what you did prove is most people have too big of a carburetor for the engine they have. Great video thank you!

Absolutely enjoyed every second, have always had same problem with Edelbrock carbs. hence on my daily Mopar sits a Holley, just a note of THANK YOU to your support team ie.- your wife. Great Job👍👍🇺🇸🇺🇸
If you run any Edelbrock you have to install an insulator gasket between it and the intake. Otherwise, when the engine is hot it will be harder to start. My biggest complaint about these carbs. Otherwise they are great!
All the runs were really good, better than I would have thought, for what the car is. Your off the line reaction and 60 ft. times were very consistent. Great job bro.
Great video Tim. Fun day at the track. I liked the performance of both carbs. The AVS may be good once dialed in for a daily driver. Shorter carb studs may help with the installation for that carb. Looks like you had a great day at the track. Thanks for sharing. Take care, Ed.
Funny story, I was complaining about bolting on a Edel carb years ago to some random dude who was chatting me up at a car event, about how they barely give you room to get the nut on. He told me dummy your supposed to use allen head bolts not studs. To this day I have never used allen head bolts just to spite that random dude. LOL
What a first day! Thank you for sharing and great video. I’ve always heard the avs2 hype. I could hear the fuel boiling in that coronet edelbrock, until I put the thin spacer on. Fun to see what’s to come!
That's why most people say you don't need big carbs on smaller street engines. Most people like the throttle response of 600 cfm tuned holley vacuum secondary for the street! I know my 350 in third gen camaro likes it lol. Dam thing is like a cheetah on cocaine, snappy and fantastic fuel mileage for cruising!
good video, a few days ago a friend and I had that discussion, he told me that a holley will always beat an edelbrock in any type of engine, but I agree with you that in a slightly modified engine an edelbrock can work just as well . Thank you for sharing your experience, greetings from Sinaloa Mexico. God bless you.!
Great video I think a true comparison love the content buddy sorry been busy still going to get you a video of my duster with the traction bars working
Truely this is a matter of preference for most people. For hotter motors - I'm a Holley man. But I can still appreciate the Edelbrock for a daily driver. The AFB or Edelbrock is well known for leaky float seats causing bleed down after sitting for 10 minutes ( give or take a few min ) and also for stumbling and stalling after burnouts. I think that the stumbling and stalling is due to the smaller float bowls on the AFB's. A larger fuel line and higher volume fuel pump will stop the stumbling and stalling problem after the burnout problem - but will make the bleed down problem even worse. I had to crank it longer after sitting with the larger fuel line and higher volume fuel feed. I don't know any way to fix both issues without just switching to a Holley, Brawler, AED, Proform, ect. I do still keep an old Carter for cam break-ins and timing adjustments - That way, I don't have to worry about popping the power valve on the Holley. But once I got it dialed in. I put the Holley on.
Hey Tim , that was really interesting, the new avs surprised me even though folks think there just for grocery getters, I'm a full blown Holley guy but that was cool and the ole Duster is really getting it for what it is, we had a 73 that we put a 380hp mopar crate motor with posi and 10.5 Micky's , the one time i raced the quarter with a 650 dbl pump it went 13.15 so your car has a really good combination because you could tell that seat of the pants, that crate engine would pin you in the seat...great channel....always watch 👍👍👍👍👍✅✅✅✅✅

Greetings and thank you for a to the point, no nonsense delivery style as usual. I just changed my notifications on your channel to "All". As much as I always liked Holley's, I've been experimenting with Edelbrock carbs lately, AVS2 650, AVS2 800 & most recently, a plain old basic 600 CFM performer manual choke #1405 which I completely dismantled from the box and did a thorough blueprint to which it very much needed! Anyways, I've become a big fan of the Edelbrock and will never touch a Holley again. Super cool Duster as well!
Great video. I've always heard that the Edel was best for street and Holly for the track. Just wondering if that slight spread bore design would give better MPG with the smaller primaries.
That was sweet both carbs got you into the 80s now we work on 70s that how us N/A guys do it a 1/2 tenth to tenth at a time I’m sure you have the timing maxed out but I’m sure we can find it somewhere maybe a set of 355s either way that was awesome

Always hear the Carter/Edelbrocks don't flow as much air as a Holley with the same rating, figured that'd really slow you down since the rating is a 100 cfm lower to start with. Great video! Those who say the Edelbrock carbs are junk, do not know what they are talking about. Great video.
Id think thus proves what many have been saying for a long time when it comes to small blocks. Unless you are trying to make 500+ hp with a stroker build. A 650 edelbrock will work quite well. (Other than heat soak). Makes me feel better about running an 800 crm quadrajet on our 360.

@@318willrunI saw your comment and thought "oh no! I know it must have driven him nuts not to mess with his car all summer." Then I checked your channel and you've got other cars lol.
Both of my AVS2'S did that and required the spring tension on the flap to be tightened a bit as well as a bigger accelerator pump shot which I accomplished by drilling out the brass to .036". I find that the smaller displacement engines are more prone to the AVS bog.
@@Projects5309 sounds like you got it. I did buy a Thompson Power plate and I legitimately notice a difference when I'm in 1st gear at 1800 RPM and I floor it. I found a video of a guy making one. They are only 40$ but free is better.

8.75 - 3.23 gears. Yep, sure grip will come. Traction bars? - you bet, it won't hook without them plus the old school look is priceless! Thanks for watching!
Hi my name is Bill. I have an 1987 Dodge Van and I am wondering what the best approach to gaining power. My thought is that I would like to get a 360 4 barrel manifold and put that on my 318. Any thoughts? Would 318 will run have these parts available?
Try adding a bigger squirter to your avs2 to get more fuel at launch. The brawler pumps way more fuel through the accelerator pumps than the avs2 in stock form. I would also bet the brawler is jetted a little richer out of the box than the avs2, thats why your mph was lower with it. Ive been having similar results between my holley 600 dp and edelbrock.
@318willrun I run a wide band 02 on mine. I've found that the electric choke edelbrock is jetted right at 14:5:1 at cruise and just pretty close to 12.5:1 at w.o.t. I also found that a .003" jet change on the primary side gives a whole # change on the afr. A .003" jet change on the secondary only gives a .2 change in afr roughly. I think this is due to having a small displacement engine. I think a bigger engine may be more even. I'm running an afb style eddy. I believe the only difference between the afb style and avs is a spring loaded secondary door vs. Weighted.
Last comment on this, I promise....My suggestion to you is to buy 1 wide band o2 sensor and enough weld in or clamp on bungs and plugs for all your cars. Just swap the sensor to the car your working on at the time. Guess-work is gone. Set your cruise and w.o.t. much quicker than trial and error and plug reading. Also, check out thunderhead289's carb cheater. It's pretty cool. Keep up the great work.
Good drive around car and can play at the track if you want. As they always say Tim ! Keep it simple. Ok! So who’s better on the track? I mean you’re wife kicked your but with the van man!! I’m just saying. Carbs. ,90 pounds, and so on. I mean Tim ! I would not want to take her on at a stop light! Lol good show. I really didn’t think it would be that close.
That's not bad for a 650 cfm Compared to a 750. I think we all know that the Holly will build a little bit more horse power. But you can't beat that AVS2.
So let me get this straight SINCE other's must still be lost or blind... You tried to compare 2 completely different Universal carbs styles, sizes, & brands on a car you can't even full throttle at the drag strip because it's a 1 legger 😭😭😭 So did you even set floats? Was the power valve in the Holley matched to the idle vacuum it makes in gear? Because even at 7000rpm which you weren't close to & 90% efficiency that tiny engine only wants/needs 590cfm. This comparison proved nothing! NO One is buying a double pumper that can't even go full throttle at the drag strip. As that's the whole point 😂
There was this guy in my town a lot older than the rest of us kids I was using the thermal quad on a lot of my cars This guy had sitting in his house on top of his refrigerator brand new in the box a 1000 cfm thermal quad Competition series I wanted it so bad

8.75 - 3.23 gears. Yep, sure grip will come. Traction bars? - you bet, it won't hook without them plus the old school look is priceless! Thanks for watching!
I guess maybe i shouldn't be in such a hurry to swap my Edelbrock for a Holley... I felt like its holding me back but maybe not.
test and trial ! Thanks for watching!
@@318willrun looking forward to seeing you at the No Name Nationals!
Love the test
Thank You!
Hi my name is Bill. I have an 1987 Dodge Van and I am wondering what the best approach to gaining power. My thought is that I would like to get a 360 4 barrel manifold and put that on my 318. Any thoughts? Would 318 will run have these parts available?
A 4bbl carburetor/and intake along with a good dual exhaust would help the 318 out for sure. I do not have any parts for sale at this time.
Thank You! Can a person take a newer (say 97 to 99) 360 magnum and put that in my 1987 Dodge Full Size Van?
@@prioritymarketing892 Yes, I have one in my '89 Van. Just a few things you need to be aware of... I have a couple videos on magnums
You been in my mind??? ha! I thought the exact same!
@@valiant696 that's not a bad idea at all
Wow! I bet you would be in 11s with 355 or lower gears.
Little more cam, converter, and gears, we'd be heading that way!!
Very nice
Thanks!!! !! !
good video thanks
Thank You !!
I'll be honest, I've lost about every race I've had with her, but it's not been a lot of them! Thanks for watching!
I want that car so bad
Hey! you have a wonderful car you are working on!!
Have you considered trying the Chinese edelbrock knockoffs
I have not................. .. yet. Thanks for watching!
Oh and is this a 318 or a 360?
360
Why the traction bars?🤔
👍
Seriously? No posi on a drag car? That seems like one of the first things you would do before adding power...
No drag car, just a street car at a drag strip 😉
Less talk then proceeds to talk LoL 😂😂😂
👍
Did the DA fall throughout the day?
I was so busy I didn't ask anyone that had the weather stations.... humidity picked up i know.... Thanks for watching!
👍🏻

That duster runs Good but, That ain't Stock.
That's not bad for a 650 cfm Compared to a 750. I think we all know that the Holly will build a little bit more horse power. But you can't beat that AVS2.
I agree!
Less fuel in the tank.
Absolutely. Every run made a lighter car!
How much you want for that $500 car !?
60ft times needs work
Yeah... 3.23's and a stock converter don't help the 60 ft times ...
@@318willrun ic any plans for better rear end?
@@peterGriffin-ug7jv probably better converter, a sure grip, and perhaps better gears
So let me get this straight SINCE other's must still be lost or blind...
You tried to compare 2 completely different Universal carbs styles, sizes, & brands on a car you can't even full throttle at the drag strip because it's a 1 legger 😭😭😭
So did you even set floats?
Was the power valve in the Holley matched to the idle vacuum it makes in gear? Because even at 7000rpm which you weren't close to & 90% efficiency that tiny engine only wants/needs 590cfm.
This comparison proved nothing! NO One is buying a double pumper that can't even go full throttle at the drag strip. As that's the whole point 😂
Is this all before or after the fries ..... ??? No ketchup either!! Truth is, she ate half my fries!!! 😫😫
Akways been fond of the big thermoquad.
There was this guy in my town a lot older than the rest of us kids I was using the thermal quad on a lot of my cars This guy had sitting in his house on top of his refrigerator brand new in the box a 1000 cfm thermal quad Competition series I wanted it so bad
