    Thanks Travis, good info. I questioned the membership cost ( which was answered by Rachel…thanks! ) While this looks like a cool addition, I’m going to stick with my digital subscription, I just use my IPAD or computer when I want use their floor/weight workouts ( no cool features, but gets the job done😊), and for now, I’m happy. Big fan of yours, Travis! You’re the reason why I got a Peloton in the first place, so I appreciate this video a ton.
    Some people talk about how you can “game” the camera by moving randomly and how that’s a deterrent. I feel like I’m just going to do the movements like they were intended. Do you find it distracting or frustrating when the camera miscounts or is easy to game?

    • @Learnwithtravis
      @Learnwithtravis  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thank you so much Dave and so happy to hear the videos have helped out! I didn't spend time "trying" to game it and felt like I got rather accurate results. There were a few times where it was not tracking me which was frustrating but I imagine this will be improved over time with updates. I did have the dog run in one time and start walking around me. I stopped working out but I continued to get credit for movement (From Dog). So, in short, I think it could probably be gamed, but if you are not trying to do that... I think it will mostly work as you want and only get better over time. Hope that helps!

    • @davechung
      @davechung 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Learnwithtravis Thanks so much, Travis! Yeah, I figure I'm not one to game it, so it's probably a non-issue for me. I'm just hoping the tracking will be consistent because I could see that driving me a little nuts.

      @Learnwithtravis  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      My pleasure! I have not used the Tempo but do know a lot of people have been very happy with it. Without knowing much, I would lean towards considering your situation. if you have a TV that would be a great place to exercise, getting into the Guide at only 300 dollars could keep a lot of money in your pocket. If you don't have a great space for that or want a little more control with weights and exercises that are more gear towards resistance instead of resistance\cardio then the Tempo might be a better fit. Hope that helps!

    I've got a low ceiling in my basement. That looks like it might be a problem for you too.... how does the tracker do with navigating that? Like, if you sit and do shoulder presses does that work? I'm still mid video so you may be about to answer this.

      I need to do another test run of this when I get time but it did okay from what I remember. There were some exercises where I was coming up with my own modification and you could tell it had no idea what to do. Others, it seemed to do okay with. Ideally, they put modifications into the program so it is planned and tracked.

    Had the Bike+ for 1-1/2 year, got the guide on impulse 2 months ago - was it necessary with the Bike subscription? No - does it gamify better than the bike - yes - so in that case a good investment as it keeps me engaged - totally agree this is not for someone looking to bulk up - for the rest of us - money well spent I will say placement is important so your movements get picked up - and for those saying you can spoof it - sure you can but why - who are you really spoofing - yourself right?

    Travis, so you had the Tonal from 2020 to 2022 and now tested the Peloton Guide in May/June...what's your plan from July through December :-). Sticking with the Tonal or moving to the Peloton Guide? I'm very, very tempted to get the Tonal but obviously the price of Peloton Guide is attractive. I just want to use what I get...have been out of it for a long time. Thought maybe spending the money on Tonal would keep me pumped, and hear such amazing things...it's also 2 years old now though...Seems like Peloton Guide needs a little work still...welcome your thoughts. Also, have you looked at FormeLife Lift? Thanks!

    • @Learnwithtravis
      @Learnwithtravis  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      These two systems are the only real connected fitness resistance machines I have got my hands on. The experience and objective of these two machines is quite a bit different. The Peloton Guide is more of a mix of cardio, body weight workouts, and free weights. A great structure if you are looking to get strong while also mixing cardio and well-balanced exercise. The Tonal is more resistance based. So, if you are looking to get stronger, add muscle, and get the results of true resistance exercise.... then the Tonal might be your option. I could be reading into this incorrectly, but honestly, it sounds like the Peloton guide might be the better starting point. Get in better shape, add some strength, but more than anything... prove to yourself you are going to stick to it. If after a while you feel you want a sweet resistance machine, grab the Tonal. It is awesome. Hope that helps!

    I was thinking about getting a peloton because I heard they are much cheaper. While looking into why the price dropped so much it seems the stock for the company has plummeted. My question is, if the company goes bankrupt and all the online classes disappear its not likely this bike is worth it? Opinions?

      Agree! While this applies to just about any connected fitness device, if Peloton did go under and stopped supporting their platform, you would have just a bike. I personally do not see this happening but it is a very valid concern.

    As one other commenter eluded to, the ongoing cost of using the Guide isn't insignificant and is the only thing I didn't hear you spend much time discussing in the video review. I'd be interested in you doing a comparison of The Peloton Guide to the Peloton App that includes current pricing for each. I've read Peloton is revising tiering of its app pricing for those with heavy Peloton equipment (bikes, treadmills, rowers), The Guide, and app only users, but for me, a motivated self disciplined person who doesn't need to worry too much about their form (or could see themselves in a $20 mirror), I have a hard time justifying the $300 one time cost plus an additional $24/month ($288/year in perpetuity) versus a $12/month ($144/year in perpetuity) app alone option. One other item to consider is space. For The Guide to work, you need enough clear room between your television and mat which they recommend placing sideways. A lot of people work out in the corner of a home office or bedroom, or what have you, being creative with the room they have that allows them to get their workouts in but not in a way that they are always directly in front of the television and equally far enough away that when on the ground, they can both see the tv an The Guide can see them. Just a few unsolicited observations.
    Like you, taking away everything that one would already get with just the Peloton app, I think The Guide is a viable tool for someone willing to pay $24/month (still a good deal) plus $300, is a beginner to weightlifting and body-weight conditioning, has a fairly open space to workout, and is motivated by seeing their reps/movement on a screen and is motivated by gimmicks and gamification. If you just want to workout and do it already, not sure much is added here.
    One other thing I've heard, unconfirmed by me, is that Peloton offers certain classes and programs first to The Guide owners for a limited time (a few weeks) before they are offered in the app or elsewhere, so if getting the latest and greatest classes before anyone else is a motivator, there's that.
    Lastly, look for holiday deals. In winter 2022, The Guide plus a set of weights was offered for the price of just The Guide. That's essentially a $300 savings off of rack rate. Thanks for the video review; very well done.

    Why not just do the workouts through the Peloton app for $13/month (with a mirror next by the TV to see yourself) instead of paying $300 + $25/month?

      Definitely another way to go about it. You would lose all the on-screen functionality they have built in which holds you accountable and motivates you. That is part of what makes Peloton special is getting the most out of the average person that does not love exercise. But, if you are self motivated and only want the content, this could work out very well.

      Apparently I decided that I'm going to sell my Guide. The on screen functionality that you mentioned didn't really do much for me. So I don't see the benefit of paying $24 for the Guide membership vs $13 for the app membership. I also already have experience learning how to perform almost every kind of workout with good forms.

      Thanks Michael! After a couple months let me know if you think you made the right decision. Great feedback!
