I want to thank you Curtis. I watched your videos almost everyday while finishing up Trade school with NO experience.. you have made me a lot of money 🤣 I apply what I learn from you on every service call. Motto is what would hvac guy do. Thank you for your service 💯.
IKR, drag to have a new motor like that defective, especially if you don't find out until you installed it. It may be a good idea to check them prior to installation.
Just like those electric furnace breakers he had to change in that one video, that where suppose to be brand new. Not really decent quality at all when you have stuff like that happen.
We had a brand new furnace and ac unit installed and the ac wasn't staying on. The blower motor on the ac unit was getting hot and shutting down. Brand new, kept telling the installer something was wrong, thought I was crazy till he touched the motor 😂
Happy (belated) Holidays Curtis! Thanks for the video. I learned my whole process and tool setup for changing blowers from you. One of my favorite repairs to do, (for the most part) easy and satisfying.
i had a brand new trane motor with a bad ball bearing on it brand new out of the box, i had to go back the next day and replace the motor because it was making such a loud growling sound. the motor was made in mexico and bearing was a generic made in china, i bought two new bearings from grainger and pressed them on to keep it as a spare on the truck. I made a video about it earlier this year
Love the tenant talking about Georgia having a different kind of cool than Tampa. I think most of "us" living up the East coast and I'm in Canada, we were all having a good laugh. Where we live we describe it with a four letter word - Cold.
I was part of a new install in the winter of 1980, went to turn it on and blower wasn't working and smoke coming out of the return!! Pulled the door off and the manufacturer had stuffed the thermostat and paperwork in the blower wheel !! We always knew to check from then on! But dang, why on earth would you stuff the blower full of parts then seal it up with screws and not tell anyone!!
I just had the worst ghost voltage in my 30 year career in one of those units. Everything checked ok. But then later around it would stop. Out in the cold in Chicago, rooftop.
Lack of maintenance really hurts. So does a NIB motor that is seized up. Wow. BTW, I need to thank you. Your extensive use of zip-ties inspired me to add some to my own tools, and I used a couple of them this weekend to remount our dryer's temperature control knob. I'm not saying they did it (I didn't see it happen), but after a couple techs were here to fix another problem with the dryer, we discovered that knob loose, and when I took the panel off, the plastic ears to which it clips were missing, as though crunched out with a pair of pliers. Fortunately I was able to come up with a good solid fix with the zip ties, so thanks for the inspiration.
I know it's not funny to be cold. And you guys get chilly at 50° understandable 40° lower than normal temperature for the summer. So something around 30° must be absolutely no fun. I do believe it's easier to stay warm than it is to stay cool. Cuz in the summertime your neighbors will not put up with you mowing the grass in your underwear. At least mine doesn't. 😂
Great video! I’m a first year tech. Out of curiosity why didn’t you clean the burners, flame sensor & spark igniter while you were in there. Especially with how old the system was. Genuine question, not trying to be a smartass.
Bad out of the box, that’s always annoying……Great work as always…. See you work on a lot of Raheem units, would be interested in your opinion on most reliable brands of units, for both heat pump & traditional separate condenser and evaporator (Carl heat / cool) stand alone units, etc / cheers from the west coast / CA
Really a perfect video of an entire job. I am not a pro, so I don’t have a lot of tools, and always reinstall screws (sheet metal, wood, machine) with a manual screw driver and turn the screw counterclockwise until I can feel or hear it drop into the existing thread path. That keeps the screw from cutting the old hole larger or cross threading. That’s important for someone like me who always seems to have to do the job over at least two times before I get something back together and working :) For the pros, not so much. Another thing: I wonder how well the triggers on those electric drills and drivers last with the practice of short burst running? (Thinking of the carpenters on the “This Old House” show.)
they are made for short burst. I've seen many units with missing self tapping or drill point screws because they were stripped from a tech, wide open, tightening them, including myself
Odd how I see these package units being used in Georgia. Different from here in Alabama. I am use it being split with the Air handler inside and the heat pump Condenser outside. Is it space or cheaper to have a all in one package unit? Trying to understand the reason for using it.
You are sure putting a lot of parts on that old RUSTY RHEEM. NOT SURE IT'S WORTH ALL OF THAT. BUT WE ALLWAYS DO WHAT THE CUSTOMER WANTS AND HAS MONEY FOR.
Definitely not the weather you guys are used down that way. Looks like quality control was on coffee break when that motor was assembled. Good quality repair on your part though. Now get back in the van and warm up 😊
I was surprised to see the heat exchanger was good, it looked like stainless. That was the only thing making the job worth while, especially since you had everything. It sucks to get a brand new motor that is defective, I hope they make it good so you can replenish your stock. I think that geckos are technically still lizards. I wonder what it was that fried them. I had a very expensive 2 cylinder freezer compressor shorted out from a green lizard. That thing kept my walk in freezer - 40*. It would freeze a 5 gallon bucket of water in an hour. It was great for processing seafood. Anyhow, that looked like a fun job, with the exception of doing the blower twice. Nice job, thanks for sharing.
I'm Puzzled that I did not see You try to rotate the Old blower and the New one should have ben loose when You assembled it at the Truck ??? I did not see you clean off the Back side of the PCB of the Dead Lizard Guts AHAHAH.... Mike M.
I always got in the habit of checking a motor to see if it turns before installing it. I'm sure you will too now 😊
Definitely!
Often Wondered 🤔 where they made the Geico TV Commercials so Thanks for Clearing that up, Curtis. 😬👍🙏

Nice work Curtis. The lack of quality control on components has gotten ridiculous.

Curtis, another great instructor..and another great job..Soo happy I found your channel..I learn Soo much from you..thank you Sir.. Cheers Mate
Awesome, thank you!
Nice professional repair
Thanks

Excellent repair curtis.its pretty cold in south eastern Oklahoma as well 👍 👌
Thanks 👍
Thx. Another "furnace in the dirt." Looks like they keep it neat and trimmed.
A nice repair Curtis, it should run like a trooper now. Well it's 26c and overcast here on Thursday morning 👍 Au
LOL at the filter on top of garbage bin

I learned early on in the trade to check motors for rotation and voltage and compressors for phase and voltage before installing.
Good job Curtis, It sucks the 2nd motor was bad, and had to do a rerun. It's all good.

Happy New Year Curtis. Haha, I’d call those Gecko’s “Crispy Critters”. Nice to see you working on a unit in what appears to be a well kept property.
LOL, they were quite crispy.

When you said that they thought they had a heat pump my thought also went to did they pay their gas bill. I have seen it happen before!

Hello Curtis. Very frustrating to say the least. One positive on this job, no barking Pitbull dogs. Happy New Year
Just for information purposes. Geckos ARE lizards. It is always a bummer when new parts are defective. Good job.
Hey Curtis try using your service valve wrench on the blower wheel bolt. Works great!
Great job on the repair Curtis another hack job where seal tight is blocking service door sorry about the geico family

These gas packs dont last too long although its from 2008 looks like needs a replacement soon

If the guy wasn’t talking to you when you were working on that motor I have a feeling you may have caught that sooner. They do it to me all the time.

I use to holler Trane, but I'm not so sure anymore.
Agree with your comment….. keep up the great work out there
Great video and workmanship. The big question is how do you bill out the taking back and installing the good motor? Any thoughts?

Seems like this is a warranty call, if you have a NOT TO EXCEED cost how do you handle it if it is over?
Wasn’t warranty, but to answer your question, just call and get approval
👍👍👍
Hi bro from west Alabama
My HVAC/plumber guy is related by marriage and he no longer will go into my attack during the summer; Phoenix!
Can be brutal

Guess that motor was made on a friday

Wow…..6 lizards….that is unreal 😳
Nothing more aggravating to get something that is suppose to be brand new, broken in the box.
Man, 're-dos' suck! All in a day's work, I guess.

Hola amigo
I would have changed the gasket just saying
He obviously has a wire wheel for his drill…what’s another 5-10 minutes on a 💰 job like this?
