In developing countries open drainages are easy to desilt and maintain by all and sundry. Closed channels are good where governments have permanent skilled maintenance officials. Let people leave Soludo to continue his good works.
@@YangaLifeHe is right! Anambra has more of Laterite which is a loose soil. When it gets in contact with water, it forms paste and flows easily into the drainage channels. When it solidifies, it clogs up the drainages with time and coupled with our lack of maintenance culture, closed drainages will eventually become a problem in future. That doesn't mean Anambra can't construct roads with closed drainages. ANSG can but it must be in areas where the government will put machineries in place to frequently service those drainages.
@Babs, you tried on your defense but I dont think is only Anambra that has this type of soil. Also, every soil does that, infact Anambra has a sandy soil that easily doesn't form this clogs you are talking about. Are you really talking about Anambra soil? Secondly, why is the machinery not in place to handle the situation? We work mostly according to people complaints and they are living everywhere in the whole world.
The open drainage that is commonplace in Nigeria is as a result of lack of courage on the part of the various tiers of government to control how we exploit our water resources . Our cities don't have water treatment facilities , and that is why isn't it common to find underground drainage channels criss-crossing our cities .New estates spring up every now and then with out proper planning regarding the drainage issues confronting those estates. People sink bore holes everywhere with reckless abandon ,and in future such unregulated deplation of the underground water resources might lead to the popping up of sinkholes here and there in the affected areas .
i was thinking its due to fund that they aren't covering the gutters but if they are doing walkways then it shouldn't be lack of funds. Also the walkway should be done at the other side which may be better so it doesn't make the road look small.
Anambra is erosion capital of the world caused by perennial flooding. Covered drainage is good, but open drainage can easily be desilted buy citizens leaving around there if the need arises without waiting for the government. Coverage drainage is expensive maintain and not easy to desilt when there is blockages. So we need to understand the peculiar nature of our state. However street roads in urban areas should be constructed with close drainage.

Cheap defence. Try again.

I feel like it rains plenty in SE Nigeria that sinkholes shouldn't be a problem. Unless maybe in the dry season

Only fools against Soludo administration
Such a big slab for a road that small... They should be managing space.
If you want to do a u-turn ?
Open drainages can never make our city neat no matter the quality of the road. Some areas need gutter to be closed or cover.
