How has the co-living situation worked out? I'm considering something similar for when I have my 2nd :)
Sorry, I just saw your comment. It worked out really well. That woman stayed for six months, from a month before the birth. Now I’ve just had a new woman move in. The one hour of help around the house each day has been invaluable in this time. And, the fact that someone can drive my toddler to and from daycare is the most essential part, which I’ve really needed. Of course, the downside is that you’re having a stranger living in your house. But it just depends on finding the right person so there’s a personality fit. ✨
I have to admit I find it kind of strange (and uncomfortable) to think about children being nursed for more than a year. Most women I've known with babies weaned them between 8 to 10 months. So by the times the babies celebrated their first birthday they were fully on solids.
How interesting that something so natural makes you feel uncomfortable! The World Health Organization recommends breastfeeding until age 2, and in most parts of the world that is standard practice. The baby gets solids from six months onwards but is always also receiving some breastmilk because it gives the child so many health benefits, including added immunity to disease. Most women I know breastfeed for at least two years, if they can.
