A very close friend of ours who chose celebacy even though he was gay had 5 priests on the alter at his funeral. They knew him, prayed for him, and saw what we all saw: He was a man who loved God and was devoted to his brothers & family. He was selfless.
I'm sure he would much rather have had 5 priests standing around his coffin than the love of his life lying in his bed.

Mother gave him hope, a challenge to be a great saint. She didn’t condemn him. She simply stated the consequences of following this path or that path.
Refreshing...that's the right answer & appropriate response...it's really a shame that many out there who hold themselves out as the holiest keepers of God's word can't seem to manage much more than seemingly hate-filled condemnation & dismissal...
A better answer would be to acknowledge that there's nothing sinful or wrong with being gay, and to evolve as a human. This argument in the church is so stale and old. Time to move on and embrace reality and other human beings, without judgement.
@billnetherlands Those of us who choose to follow the faith can hardly claim that this is not a sin when scripture clearly states otherwise - the plethora of current claims to the contrary notwithstanding. It is not a few passages that condemn same sex relations - it is the totality of what our faith teaches us about the quality of humanity.
It has only been in very recent times that this - and many other things, all of which seem somehow related to sex - have been catapulted into the realm of "normal."
It may be an unfortunate reality to some, but the idea that "anything goes" as a way to live life never ends well (and I find it intriguing that those who would suggest that that be the foundation for sexual behavior would - rightly - never condone the same attitude toward many other things).
God doesn't force his will on anyone, but for those who choose to follow, as with any other relationship, there are rules and expectations, and we do our best to live up to them. You don't have to, but we choose to...

The idea that the church shouldn't change, when it's obviously wrong (with replicable, peer-reviewed evidence, which disproves its claims), is a flawed premise. Change, in the face of better information, is wise and logical. It's the fool who buries their head in the sand, in an appeal to tradition. Sorry, but those of us who grew up in the church are sick of seeing a handful of throwaway lines in the bible used to attack our friends and family. I believe that Catholics and the church are better than clinging to outdated, wrong ideas, which actively harm teenagers, children, and even adults.

Mother Angelica gave this man the secret for sainthood, this man's is chained to a very heavy chain, I know it, I preached in my early 20, after one of my preachings a young man asked me the same question, he talked in the third person saying it was a friend, I just told him, in the Church their are nuns and monks that give their whole life to God, and that this was his friend only option, and that if he stayed faithful to God his prize in heaven would be like the saints. He's been working for God ever since.

I love the way Mother Angelica responds to the question here. I am gay myself, but also asexual. Never had the experience and really don't want to have sex with another person, though I do fantasize about it at times. She is very positive in her comments and is not like some nuns I have seen lately who have been very nasty. People have even gotten the notion that just being gay is a sin. Which is not true. It would appear that the issue of faith and works is a bit more complicated than most people understand it to be. As you can see, much of the confusion is centered around the word, "justification". I didn't know these things either until I read the article. It does shed some light on a complicated and controversial subject.
It is sad that so many of our priests and nuns feel they cannot come out and acknowledge the sexual orientation that God gave them, as you have done here. It would probably help a lot of other Gay Christians in the Church by being honest about it.

Like she said, the sin isnt being gay, the sin is fornication. Many straight people who commit fornication still go to church and repent. They are not told, 'you can't be catholic'. They are simply reminded to follow Christ, go to confession, and to not do the act again. The same goes for someone who has same sex attraction. It's a lot more difficult for them to not commit fornication since same sex marriage isn't recognized in the church, but the teaching is the same to us all, regardless of our orientation. To be catholic, they must also confess and commit to never do it again if they commit fornication. Whether a person is having casual sex with the opposite sex or the same sex, the result is the same ...both are considered mortal sins. One isn't worse than the other.
But she cannot fantasize either. It's harder being a non-active gay person because you cannot have sex with no-one but it's the cross you have to carry. Only God knows why. Does they need to marry our Blessed Mary or God or the church. And help others.

She was an old lady who was stuck in pre Vatican II doctrine and simply refused to accept the modern scientific discoveries that the Catholic Church accepted once they were proven. I agree. What are people defining themselves as when they say this? Better yet, when we define others by this label, what do we mean? A common statement you’ll hear people say over the last several decades is “I knew my son/daughter was gay since they were a young child.” They aren’t possibly talking about an innocent child’s sexuality, right? Society needs to further excavate what we are judging people and ourselves as when we label ourselves in this way.
Today in 2023, you’ll hear similar statements but the term “gay” is replaced with “trans.” Meaning some sort of deviant. It’s dangerous to judge anyone of any age in such a way because of perception of them as possessing a queer disposition.
As Mother Angelica says here, it’s an inclination of one part of our being. All parts of us are inclined to go against God’s law. It’s why Jesus came to us.
Growing up with a strong predisposition of sexual deviance is not easy or fair. It can certainly influence your life in consequential ways. This is why as Christians we love and support our brothers and sisters who carry this cross. Benevolent Christian efforts to lead our “gay” peers on the path to God have been hijacked by inter generational agenda. Secular society realized that it can be politically beneficial to promote certain types of people to embrace and pursue this type of life and build upon this sin, no nevermind to the exploitation and destruction it causes.
Pursuing such a life leads to far more sins than just adultery or impurity described in the Bible. It leads to our ego taking over and consuming our better judgment, crippling our ability to walk with Christ and find God’s Kingdom.
There is no 'God's Kingdom' until it is proven to exist.

I came to this section of TH-cam(If being LGB was a sin), because I was confused. I had said awful things about the Bible being incorrect about Homosexuality because it was written by man, and that man was imperfect. And ever since saying so I felt so full of sin, so disgusted and rotten to my core- it felt so wrong to say.
But after watching this video I now know my truth, and while scrolling through the comments I found this- and I can’t explain it, but it was like God was saying: "This is good." while I read it.

Did you hear what she said? You can't be a sexually active gay and catholic at the same time. If a gay COUPLE is going to ask for a blessing, they are sexually active... and other thing, the blessing itself would have the intention of converting them, which by logic would lead to the couple's separation. @@SenorStone Not exactly. It's a bit more complicated than that. Mother Angelica, under OLD doctrine said that a person cannot be 'actively' gay and Catholic. What Pope Francis has said is that gay people, if they are good people in general and who seek God and Christ in their lives are welcome in the Catholic Church. He then said that ANY sex act outside of marriage, INCLUDING same sex acts is still a sin. However, it is a FORGIVABLE sin. Of course, in the Catholic Church, marriage is a sacrament reserved for a man and a woman and therefore, gays will never be able to marry so sex between them will always be a sin. But it is NOT the horrible abomination it was once thought to be which will send people straight to Hell. Basically, what he means is that everyone sins. However, acts between people of the same sex is no worse of a sin than straight couples who, for, the lack of better words, 'hook up' outside of marriage.
As for the 'blessing' of same sex couples, that's pretty complicated. It is technically blessing the PEOPLE and NOT the union between them. In addition, the blessing cannot in any way resemble anything related to a marriage, even in the clothes the couple may wear. Also, it cannot be done in conjunction with any kind of civil union or civil marriage ceremony.

I have a homosexual coworker and it’s so so difficult because she very often talks about her sexual orientation and her homosexual relationship. It’s so tough because I don’t hate LGBTQ at all, however at points it is just so hard to interact in relation to this topic without saying something to offend. I’ll pray for her, hopefully she’ll ground her identity in something more substantive like faith! ❤

I found a rotten tooth sewn into my underblanket bedding. It stunk, and I new I had been cursed.
I put the tooth in my hands while sitting down and said, "Dear GOD, if you tell me who did this and who did the CURSE I will forgive them."
My eyes were closed and saw my mother walking around her home.

I got a vision of my sister getting out of her car. These visions were like watching a big TV screen, so clear.
My sister stayed in my bedroom on her holiday as we live in a different country.
I cried and cried, sent a picture of it to my Priest and buried it in the park with holy water and holy salt with prayers.
Then HELL came to me, I became a disabled person. I forgave them.
Since 10years on, my mother cannot walk, my sister hip operation and husband died. I prayed for justice because I met Satan and demons.

There are only two ways. Forward : Zion. Or Backward: Hell. I have seen the movie "little Buddha" and I even think I understand what happened at the end. A lot of the comments seem to be commending her message... but I find it quite offensive. She clearly is putting it in a way that is gracious and says it with understanding. She also clearly wishes the best for this man. But she's also under the assumption that one could "overcome" being gay... and then compares being gay to being a robber. That's where I lose her message.
Its great to hear that we are not defined by our desires. Today it is preached that our desires are our identity in the deepest sense, but that is such a slippery slope when you realize we ALL have desires that are inherently evil. To know those desires don't have to define us is a fulfilling truth. To be taught we are who we are and there's nothing we or anyone else can do about it, that's a lie of pride and despair.
My suggestion is a divine reset. Scripture says if anyone be in Christ, he is a new creation, old things have passed away, behold, all things have become new. The change begins on the inside with a circumcision of the heart and the Holy Spirit comes in and makes you anew. That change works its way out to every facet of life.

That means no forms of birth control if you are having sex. Jesus was also very clear about Divorce in the Bible. Christ's teaching on divorce was very clear and unambiguous.

Yes, that's basically the position that Pope Francis, UNLIKE Mother Angelica, took when he said that all sex outside of marriage, including gay sex, is a FORGIVABLE sin and that gay people, as long as they are good people and seek God in their hearts, are welcome in the Catholic Church.

I love how she puts it, that we all have inclinations we must overcome to become great saints, but we can do it. I think gays sometimes are unfairly targeted by Catholics, meanwhile many Contracept and divorce, are judgmental, we all have inclinations. Most of ours are not as obvious.
My parish has an official LGBTQ ministry. We receive $10,000 per year for outreach, education, events, etc. We had our annual LGBT Mass last Friday. ALL ARE WELCOME!
