- If you would’ve asked me, I never would have thought that both Cedar Fair and Six Flags would be merging, essentially creating one of the largest theme park corporations on the planet. Well, here we are in the present day, and this notion is just right around the corner. A little over a week ago, Cedar Fair and Six Flags announced that their merger date was set for July 1st. Both companies will become one, and the Cedar Fair name will be put out to pasture...

This new company basically is Cedar Fair, almost all the top positions are made up of Cedar Fair executives
They are also keeping the CF name on all the corporate finance books, and keeping the Cedar Fair stock symbol ("FUN").. So to ME, the only thing that is Six Flags is the sign out on the road..

I definitely prefer the Six Flags name. The idea of the season pass for all of their properties would be amazing. Ultimately great news that Cedar Fairs CEO is taking over the merger and becoming the CEO of Six Flags. Maybe we'll start to see some unique flare come to each of the Six Flags parks.

I was a shareholder for Cedar Fair and voted for this merger. This is actually a very good move for both companies. Personally, I feel like the best parts of each company will stay and the bad parts will be no more. I can’t wait to see what improvements this brings to the lower tier parks in both chains, because that is a big focus

This ismt going to be good in the long run, my home park six flags st louis will get phased out.
What you're saying about six flags parks all being practically the same doesn't matter at all to non-enthusiasts. The general public (who make up almost all of the parks income), are only ever visiting their home park.
The whole Six Flags brand is tacky and the theming in their parks is hideous. Customer service and guest experience is always terrible at every single one of their parks. I can't think of any easier way to devalue a park's image than to have "Six Flags" posted over the entrance gate.
The last Six Flags Park I was at, I had to wait over an hour in customer experience in a line that only had one attendant.
I disagree. Most guests have never been to more than one SF park, and couldn’t care less what a Cedar Fair is
I'd also like to point out that just because a few Six Flags parks have offered bad experiences to not mean all of them do. I've been to 5 of them so far and all 5 have been run pretty differently.

I agree, Six Flags parks always seem a little more tacky and run down. I've always liked Cedar Fairs Parks since one of them is my home park. It's well maintained, themed, and the unique name sounds better than "Six Flags: ___"
I disagree what you said about the Six Flags being seen as the discount chain. That's only really with enthusiasts - 99% of six flags' guests are the GP who actually have positive connotations with the six flags brand, while they may never have heard of cedar fair before.
That's exactly what I was thinking too. Nobody I talk to knows what a Cedar Fair is, but everybody knows Six Flags, even if they have no interest in amusement parks, and they think very highly of Six Flags, except for some enthusiasts.

The only people who associate Cedar Fair with amusement parks are the knowledgeable ones like you. To the average consumer, Six Flags is much better known as an amusement park company.
The important thing is that Six Flags is synonymous to theme parks as Nintendo is to video games.
Though, people think of the "Nintendo" name with fondness, Six Flags not so much

I know people that only went to SF park b/c they live in Texas., They went to Cedar Point and Kings Island on my recommendation and next time I talked to then, they commented how low quality SF was in comparison in every way. People that go to other park chains other than SF don't regard them highly GP or enthusiasts.

Cedar Fair is running the show. These videos about this subject is getting stupid. No such thing as Six Flags Kings Island or Batman Cooperhead Strike. Six Flags is going to be ran like a Cedar Fair parks each park will have its own personality.
you know the cedar fair fans are mad over this but let's be real about this if you ask anyone who owns kings island or carowinds that's the GP by the way, they would say cedar point but if you tell them it's own by cedar fair they'll ask "where is cedar fair?" since all of the cedar fair parks are not named cedar fair sandusky, or cedar fair kings island, etc and ever if they did change to that Six flags would still be the stronger name regedless of the outcome of the merge.
Now with this marge I do hope the is change in the six flags park and but also the know what each chain has the strengths points are and their weak points are and take notes like atmosphere of the six flags parks being different like the cedar fair parks that is something i would like to see with this merger.
That’s the nice thing about cedar fair parks their corporate name isn’t forced down your throat every park feel unique plus I work at kings island and cedar fair is literally printed on our shirts so people see it

Growing up in NE ohio, Cedar Fair has a special place in my heart. Sure, a lot of people blame them for killing the park of my childhood, but I have always given them a pass on that, in large part because at least they weren't six flags. I was pretty bummed when I first heard about the merger, I was worried about the soul of the company and stuff. Honestly though, as much as we might not want to admit it, in the end both companies are giant corporations whose main goal is to grow and provide returns for shareholders. So far cedar fair has just been the better of the two at doing so in a way that feels less tacky, if a little bland at times. Heres to hoping the whole thing doesn't go butt up, but also knowing that if it does, it's not the end of the world.
Hopefully they can look at sfmm and fix it like a resort more than just an amusement park to atleast compete with disney n universal

I could see some of the lower tier parks getting the Six Flags name attached to them but I hope they don't do that with all their parks (especially with Knotts Berry Farm and California's Great America being located pretty close to Six Flags Magic Mountain and Six Flags Discovery Kingdom).
The two Great America's will be back under one company again. At least for a short time, until Santa Clara is expected to close.
Two questions. First, will my Cedar Fair All Park Passport still get me into the Cedar Fair parks for the remainder of the season, or will it no longer be usable? Second, will my Six Flags Plus pass get me into all Cedar Fair parks along with the Six Flags parks, or does that not start until next year?

@grobble8954 Because I was worried that once the merger is complete and Cedar Fair no longer exists, a Cedar Fair pass of any kind would no longer work as a result. At that same time, I also wondered if a Six Flags pass would work for all previous Cedar Fair parks now that they're officially Six Flags parks.
I think it would be cool if they did park passes, regional passes and then a big chain wide pass for all of the parks. I just kind of doubt that they'll do a chain wide pass that's really affordable for most people.
The other approach would be to simply charge more for the chain wide pass in regions that have multiple parks in relatively close proximity but still keep the price somewhat low. But if a single chain wide pass ends up costing $400+ per year, it'd be nice to have a cheaper pass for people who aren't planning cross country trips to get in to several nearby parks.

Barely anybody (outside of theme park enthusiasts) know the name 'Cedar Fair'. Meanwhile, everybody and their mothers know the name 'Six Flags'.

But realistically it doesn't matter if each park feels different. Don't most parks get most of their visitors locally? If a ride is good quality there is no reason why it cannot be duplicated at several parks to save costs as the chain can buy in bulk. Problem with six flags is they were adding cheap clones to every park, the quality wasn't there.
That’s just a lazy way of doing things because in reality most of these people do travel to other parks
@@cosmic4791 Maybe be lazy but cost effective. I don’t have the data but they say 90+% of visitors are local and do not travel to other parks. That’s why enthusiasts call them GP. But they do make the bulk of customers.

Im only upset because the Six Flags ratchets will now be at the Cedar Fair parks line jumping, leaving trash everywhere and just all around being disrespectful and immature.
Its already there at some of the parks, but Cedar Fair doesn't tolerate as much as a Six Flags park

@@Johnnyiswhere Criminy when I was at Knott's near new year's, Ghostrider took 4 HOURS to get through the line because there was so much line jumping and godawful operations. Security was completely overwhelmed, and ride ops was putting an entire train of fastpass on, then more than half the train was fastpass, before they let any of the standby in, and were very slow to load people and send trains. Standby was going 1/4 to 1/5th as fast as it should go BEFORE the line jumping. And when we commented that saving spots for groups was line jumping, EVERYONE around got pissy with US. Worst ops, worst clientele I have ever seen at a cedar fair park.

Canadas Wonderland project 2025 coaster will be a Premier roller-coaster. They are doing major work right now for that and what they will be doing in 2026. Major electrical and plumbing buildings are being constructed. La Ronde, who knows. Same thing with Darien Lake, they honestly should mothball it.

Oh and they also own several music and movie studios including Marvel, Lucasfilm, and Pixar, one of the big 4 networks in the U.S ABC, several cable channels including espn, fox sports network, and sky. They also own GoPro and Hulu. I could go on.
Six flags isn’t rlly close to a monopoly. They’re consolidating which isn’t always great for consumers but mega corporations like Disney own wayyy more than you realize.
Ugh, This isn't a monopoly, lol. Universal, Disney, Busch Gardens, SeaWorld, Premier Parks, and Herschend Entertainment are all American theme park companies. It's far from being a monopoly.

Michigan's Adventure is a world class waterpark with a small amusement park attached. If they were to bring up the amusement park to the quality of the waterpark they could make it a destination, especially because western Michigan on Lake Michigan is just as beautiful as Lake Erie and Sandusky.
All i hope is that they don't over advertise or show off the whole merger or the company being called "Six Flags". I really don't want to have to go to Cedar Point and all of thoose Cedar Fair signs saying "Sux Flags". My one last hope being that they keep their DC themes to the og Six Flags parks and keep the Peanuts at the og Cedar Fair parks.

They’ll have more money this way, and maybe they can make a park with themed rides instead of just cookie-cutter-coasters. Even if the ride layouts are good, I’d rather go to a Universal Park because they have unique and imaginative rides that are a nice visual experience and thrill experience.

I totally disagree with your statement that their parks blend together. The name, the superhero ride obsession and the Batman:The Ride clones appearing at many parks are the only similarities I've seen at Six Flags parks. I get a similar atmosphere at ValleyFair and Worlds of Fun - AMUSEMENT PARK! Guess what? They're ALL amusement parks with similar atmospheres. And I LOVE AMUSEMENT PARKS! The only fear is the monopoly will lead to fewer additions and innovation in the future and possibly sale of the parks corporate sees as underperforming, like Six Flags did with AstroWorld and CedarFair did with Geauga Lake.
You just said it cedar fair leans in with the peanuts ip they will definitely do that with all the IPs six flags have right now and all other IPs they can get from relationships with Warner bros and if you saw the fright fest announcement looks like they are getting good connections with them working with Netflix and other big horror studios think all the parks by 2026 will have something announced with expanding/ introducing new IPs for all parks

You can INSTANTLY tell the difference in quality in employees, rides, food, games, etc when you walk into a CF park compared to a SF park. DC theming is cheesy and cheap. I don't want to see CF rides turned into marketing for DC. It's that simple. Liking something or not liking something is subjective, you know. I'm glad you simp for SF, I'll continue to simp for CF. I wouldn't mind them themeing all the Cedar Fair rides tbh. I miss the theming at Kings Island that was there before Cedar Fair purchased it. And it would be a potential of bringing them more money. More people would be interested in riding Superman than they would the Maverick, simply because of the name. Yeah I get that you love the Maverick as is, but the ride would still be there. I have to preface the fact that six flags only has this negative view in the eyes of enthusiasts. The mast majority of guests donr care and still see six flags as a luxury. And its a prominent name in the industry much more than cedar fair.
I'm so excited to get back to Six Flags Cedar Point to ride Milleniu I mean Goliath. Superman Shoot I Forgot My Wallet The Ride. And can't forget Rapt, sorry, Batman The Not Cloned Ride.

I stopped going to parks like this around 10 years ago because of the amount of money they’ve been losing. Which in turn leads to poor maintenance in rides, ride parts being replaced with cheap non manufactured brand versions, staff being inadequately trained for safety and a lower number of staff in general, etc… This all leads to the rides being less smooth, less safe, and a worse experience overall. Disney and Universal actually make profit allowing them to maintain the highest quality of rides, staff, and overall experience. For example, Hagrids in FL cost 300 million dollars to make and years later Universal is spending millions on making the rides maintenance building bigger to improve the queue times for guests. Parks like Six Flags could never, and have so many ride related incidents, yet will never reach attendance numbers like Disney and Universal.
I hope current Six Flags parks such as; Great Adventure, Fiesta Texas, Magic Mountain (perhaps even Riverside?) could drop the current Six Flags Titled name, and rebrand as “a Six Flags Park” and possibly see some of the lower tear Cedar Fair parks become something like Six Flags Michigans Adventure or so?

I just looked it up, cedar fair will own more than six flags (cedar fair has 51.2% and six flags has 48.8%, so there’s nothing really to be worried about, cedar fair is obv gunna be six flags, but since they merged, bad six flags parks like Six flags Darien lake, might get some new coasters.😊
Mostly all the parks you mentioned are not cedar fair parks, cedar fair bought them n destroyed them all. I hate cedar fair they have destroyed my favorite parks and Rollercoasters. I remember when Dorney was hot not any more. But I guess you are young and have nothing to compare it too. That horrible company took my favorite coaster at Dorney a 14 year old wooden coaster that the family had built named Hercules and destroyed it. After they closed it they still lit the chaser lights to entice people to get off of the turnpike and go. They have destroyed every park they acquired. I hate that company. I hope both of them go bankrupt. The young generation cracks me up, they are nothing but little prissy babies. The only thing they want is airtime. I would love to get you on Hercules , Grizzly, Texas Giant etc before they all were retracted or RMCed don't think you would be man enough . LOL

We should outlaw corporate conglomerates like this, in my opinion. It may not matter that much or be a huge issue in this industry, that's more regional based. But every other industry where there's only a few competitors? It's the modern day monopoly. At my core, I almost never like when corporations combine. And I don't see any benefit to the consumer in this deal. Not that that is the point. It's all about growth.
If they continue to follow Disney's you must pay to get in and pay to ride or else mind set. They will collapse

Bad idea. Six Flags is garbage. Cedar Faire didn't need this. Horrible. I can see the cheap already coming out in Cedar Faire.
