"just buy Mega Man X Corruptions" That might be the ultimate big brain move Capcom doesn't have to do a lot, and they just need to depend on the fans to make it good (mostly goes well)
Is it wrong that Back when Mega Man 11 was reaching its release date, I was half expecting Capcom to cancel MM11? Also. Crapcon really could’ve managed their developments way better than they actually did. It’s always a shame
I personally wanna see ZX and Legends continue the most of all. Probably a hot take since the X series is stuck on a cliffhanger too. However at least for X, even if I enjoy the three games after X5 more than most, I feel like X still sort of has an ending. ZX and Legends, both great series, were just left off on huge cliffhangers with no suitable ending for either.
They basically did something similar with the Breath of Fire games. The major difference is we’re probably never getting another Breath of Fire game. Apparently people love battle robots better than a kid that can shapeshift into a friggin dragon.
Capcom is the main culprit on why the megaman series is in the state it is, they don't care or love megaman at all, the reason the series is still loved is because fan do what they don't...wich hurts the most.
Another great fan game released during the dark age was Mega Man Unlimited, the MM11 equivalent released years before MM11. It wasnt quite as polished as the rest of the series but it also had zero input or support from Capcom.
The X Corrupted Shoutout at the end was unexpected but a pleasant surprise, I saw a popular speedrunner Calebheart react to the 2023 Gameplay showcase and one of his live chat members were saying X Corrupted looked better than Resident Evil 4 Remake, there’s also a Megaman X8 16 Bit Demake if anyone is interested.
Never EVER bring up 2010 ever again! Literally the worst year of my life with 2011 at a close second and all those Capcom cancellations was a major part of that.
While hearing the FPS was developed by Metroid Prime developers is promising... the games that come to mind to compare it to are Bomberman Act Zero and Shadow the Hedgehog. While I wouldn't entirely rule it out as potentially worthwhile, you can color me really skeptical. I can't think of an instance of a game series taking such a massive tonal shift being anything other than catastrophic. I think Metroid Prime managed to succeed because it was fundamentally still Metroid. It brought the Metroidvania genre into 3D like no other game had. First person platformers... the most succesful example I can think of is Mirror's edge, which was... okay. It doesn't look like this game is really trying to preserve the platforming aspects of Mega Man though. It's just a generic gritty shooter with Mega Man attached.
@@squallleonhart9387 They did transition to 3D well. Although the shift in tone was substantially less dramatic than the other examples. While the NES games were basically as serious as they came for the time. Ninja Gaiden was about as serious as games came on the NES. While Sonic, Bomberman and Megaman are straight up goofy and suitable for Saturday morning cartoons.
The way I heard it was that Inafune had a habit of starting development on megaman games without informing his higherups until it was too late and it made the most economic sense to just let the development team finish their work. They put up with it until they didn't and let him "leave" so he could save face and after that megaman was treated the same as any other legacy Capcom IP.
@@NetBattlerNo man is perfect. Pros and cons. But man, he was like the only one to push Mega Man games out and now? Kinda miss him at Capcom despite some of his brainhaired moves.
I am new to this channel. But based off what I have seen so far I am astounded to hear you have not played Mega Man legends. You have to fix that as soon as possible. As they are some of my favorite games of all time.
When I think of canceled Mega Man games, the first thing that pops in my head is actually "Mega Man Mania", which was supposed to be colored remasters of all five Game Boy games. I loved those games as a kid so I was really disappointed lol
Legends 3 will always be a gut punch to me, especially now having seen the demo footage. I loved the first 2 games and always wanted to see the story finish
I feel like the other potential factor in Legends 3 cancellation is that unfortunately, the Legends series overall sold very poorly. Inafune himself said that the first game didn't sell, and from the looks of it, the other games didn't do so well either. And considering these were 3D adventure games with voice acting and such, that's pretty bad. I do think that, plus how it was impossible to play the previous games (which have a connected story) unless you spent some serious money on a copy, Inafune leaving, and Capcom unsure what to do with Mega Man is what led to it's unfortunate demise. Hopefully things will change if and when the MMLLC is out, but it will have to sell something serious. From what I've read, Rockman Online's cancellation may have been due with the fact that Neowiz was going under some reconstruction at the time, and Rockman Online was one of the unfortunate victims. If that's the case, then that's just bad timing. A Mega Man MMO (A MMMMORPG?) would be pretty sweet, especially if it takes place in the X or Battle Network series and lets us create our own character. Also that animation goes way too hard and makes me want a Mega Man anime. Preferably X. Maverick Hunter is the one game some have expressed they don't mind getting canned due to how it looks. Doesn't help people compare it to Bomberman Zero. Inafune was on some huge westernization kick and looks like it was gonna happen to Mega Man too. Considering the people involved, it probably would've played very well. It's just the design and tone that holds it back. I did hear this was gonna end with the 3rd game and you playing as Zero killing X because X becomes corrupt like Inafune originally intended, but I don''t know if that's 100% true or not. I remember Protodude had an article about how Universe was mishandled by Inafune and he bit off more than he could chew. One specific thing I remember is that Inafune had the idea of this being the last Mega Man game and it would be sustained by DLC. Not gonna lie, but if that was his intention, I'm not too bothered it got canned. The concept itself is great, but all of that along with the art style didn't help. At least Mega Man Maker is a thing, but would be nice to see one that's more than just the classic series since AFAIK, they have no intention of adding the others.
What? I love Maverick Hunter (though the Leg part change irked me) and wanted to see a revamped storyline from X1 to 6 that fit better together. Making the Zero arm part the stronger Buster instead of the same Buster in the original is great and the additional of the Vile mode was cool. There were some changes I didn’t like like the missing final quote from Sigma from the original. Surprised some wanted it canned. EDIT: Ooh… not the MMX remake Maverick Hunter, but the dark Metroid Prime like game called Maverick Hunter. My bad.
Not sure if you know this but you can just make your own game or ask someone who plays garage builder on switch or PS4/5 dreams that's if you felt like it

Being the huge fan of Mega Man that I am, videos like this are downright depressing. I never got to play the work in progress build of Legends 3, and I never imagined that it would be canceled back then. I can say the same for Rockman Online. I was looking forward to both of them. I was at the NYC Comic Con in 2010. Most of the gameplay recordings of Mega Man Universe on TH-cam that you'll see from that event was me playing the PS3 version. I have some videos on my channel of that, but others who recorded have footage of me playing the game on their channel. I was unintentionally hogging the game. I did let others play, but once the lost their lives, they just gave up and went elsewhere in the convention, not fanatic me though. I was was obsessed with the game. I played it for all 4 days of the convention for hours! The control sensitivity was definitely a problem and could use some fine tuning because you could accidentally make movements that you didn't want to. I couldn't wait for the release of this game. I also got to play the Xbox360 version at a private event. I didn't notice any difference. Unfortunately, attendees of said event were not allowed to record anything. I met Keiji Inafune at that same convention as well. He did not look happy. Previously I had only see him in videos of interviews and conventions and he was always so happy. The look on his face in 2010 was that of a man that had the joy stolen from him. He was not happy and this really bothered me because one of my dreams was to work at Capcom and be a position like his one day. It was heartbreaking to see what was happening to him considering that he gave so much love, energy, dedication, and passion to his projects while working for them. And then it all comes crashing down to an awful end. People still to this day love the games he worked on. Needless to say, this crushed my dream to be with the company as well. It really sucks. I don't even want to think about it anymore.
Honestly I think Megaman might make a great VR game, especially using the Battle Network/ Starforce style battle system and art design. Or, the FPS idea could be combined with Legends style dungeon crawling. I had fun with MM11 but it did seem kinda gimmicky to me. Vr could open the franchise up a bit more.
Mega Man Universe looks like a uglier version of Mega Man Maker with Quasimodo as the protagonist. MMM sticks with the 8 bit graphics, even for post-8 bit content.
God please never release Megaman X Maverick Hunter FPS. Or at least not in THIS way. I remember seeing (and hearing) Megaman X in the Mega Man cartoon series and was immediately cringed away. Megaman (X) is an anime first of all, second this FPS game had the perfekt early PS3 color palette (almost black & white). Third, if they ever made Megaman X with a digital face, I'd throw some molotov cocktails. This game was planned to be a fan service for all those Call of Duty fans, but that's it. No true Megaman X fan would have loved this game.
After all these cancelled projects, i'm even more grateful for Megaman 11 and still hopeful for MM12 or MMX9.
