    Margaret, I have just today found your channel. I appreciate your clear, logical directions. I also very much appreciate that you show , for example quilt borders and quilt bindings, your demonstration on a full size quilt rather than a 12 inch block. I am glad that I found you and will be watching.
    Love and light, Jo Ann from Mississippi

    I made a pin cushion following your video. I sewed on my button before I sewed on the back. It was easier for me. I don't know yet what I will fill it with, but i know i want something that helps keep the pins sharp. Thank you!

    I've made a lot of these cathedral window pincushions, but I never thought of sewing them on the machine. I have a few folded ready to hand sew, so will try using the sewing machine instead. My pincushions have cathedral window blocks on both sides, yours look much easier than mine. Thanks for the video.

      +Margaret Leuwen Quilting (Miss Marker's Quilts) I ended up making the pincushion by following along with your video. When you got to the part about adding the 5x5" piece to the middle, I had already followed along with you and sewn down the 4 center corners. Perhaps you can edit the video and put that bit in *before* having us tack down the center corners. This was partly my own fault for not completely watching the video all the way through a few times before beginning, but it was annoying having to use the seam ripper to remove the center tack. I hope that made sense lol.

    I love this little pin cushion. I have been watching tutorials for different patterns and am going to make this. At one point you gave an instruction for sewing across and then across again ( I think that is what it was). Your fabric was off camera so I was confused as to what you did. I think it is a short little stitch line in the center holding the points together but am not sure. I am a new quilter so don't understand all things until I visually see it. I think this little cushion is darling! Thanks for taking the time to make the tutorial.

    • @MargaretLeuwenQuilting
      @MargaretLeuwenQuilting  10 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      lavalavaist Hi! Yes, the sticking is across the two folded in points and are to secure them down prior to folding/rolling the fabric over to frame it in. I hope this helps! If you have any questions at all feel free to email me at Margaret@missmarkersquilts.com! Thanks so much for watching! Margaret

    Looks like a faux cathedral window pattern. Clever. Unclear as to where exactly to stitch the different levels but I'm sure it could be figured out. If I did sew or had a machine this would be a great project to try. As it is I just enjoy watching creative videos. Thanks for all your effort in this video.

    The strawberry pincushion I own was looking pretty shabby and the tomato was quite faded. I just bought a new tomato with strawberry. I want to make an emery pincushion using your pattern for a nice big one and not the small strawberry size. I just seam ripped both strawberries to get a look at the construction and you might be surprised to know there is only the single layer of fabric keeping the emery sand inside. The old strawberry fabric was a 3" circle cut in half. The new strawberry is made from an odd shaped square (not 3" except on one side) with a lot of fabric tucked inside and under the glued green leaves. Originally, I thought like you that maybe plastic wrap along with a little batting might be helpful too but it appears not to be necessary. Your navy/toile fabric would be just perfect or any dark colored fabrics. Thanks for a lovely pattern.

    I first made one of these pincushions about 5-6 years ago. I love to use it as it is so pretty. I just wanted to comment that you don't have to stuff it with crushed walnuts. Stuff it with your favorite stuffing - I uses the fiberfil I always use for stuffed animals/dolls.

    I really enjoyed your tutorial and learned even more reading through these comments.
    A suggestion for future tutorials: should you decide to do any machine or hand stitching, use a contrasting thread so that the stitching stands out on the fabric and is clearer for us to see.
    I look forward to seeing your ideas on organizing your patterns, also. I have lots of patterns, but don't remember what I have or where to find the one I'm looking for ... Help!

      Laura Guenette Hi Laura! Thank you so much for commenting and for watching! I'm actually (today) working on a tutorial on how to hand sew binding on, the binding is black and I'm using an off white thread so hopefully it will help so everyone can see my stitches!
      The construction on my new studio (720 Square Feet of Heaven on Earth) is moving along. I plan on showing exactly how I sort, organize and store my patterns as well as my block of the month kits as I move into my studio. Please stay tuned!
      Thank you so much for watching!

    Simply must do this! I love your colors. I've watched several tutorials on this and each one teaches me something different. I never knew the strawberry was for that! I've been sewing over 40 yrs! Someone on another tutorial, someone said her grandmother's had human hair (for the oil lubricating properties). I love the stacked button idea here. Never would have thought of that plus the bottom button. Maybe the other tutorial meant on the backing fabric to sew the long end seam together and then fold it so that was in the center, THEN attach it to the front panel with that part tucked towards the center filling. this will hide that seam? Thank you for your clear and wonderful video.

      mrshammerhankus I hope you do make it, it was so easy and I really like how it turned out! Thanks for the great tutorial! I hate that you've received a few negative comments. It makes me irritated. I wanted to add a little tip: instead of pinning the rolled edges down, it might be easier to run a super thin line of Elmer's glue under the edges, and hit it with a hot, dry iron to set. Glue basting might not be right for everyone, but I think it might help some people (like me!) achieve those gorgeous rolled edges with ease. :)

    • @MargaretLeuwenQuilting
      @MargaretLeuwenQuilting  8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I think your Elmer's Glue is a fantastic idea!! I never would have thought of that! Please don't let the negative comments upset you, I don't. We all have bad days once in a while and I know that the positive feedback I get far outweighs the negative. Thanks so much for watching and for that fantastic idea!! I'm going to be purchasing some Elmer's Glue soon!

    Hi Margaret..loved the pincushion, so pretty. I did not understand where you stitch the points together..is it just like a tack maybe? I could not see, you may have edited that part out, but it seems to be an important part. Maybe you could just make a quickie video on that. Thanks so much. I.love learning from you. I am 71, never too old to learn new ways.

    • @joannmccraw7235

      The cross stitch at the 8 minute mark in the video is referring to stitching across from tip to tip each point opposite of each other to make sure all 4 points remain stable and do not break away or move while you roll back the edges to for the cathedral pattern.

    Wow! I've already seen a lot of this kind of project, but not that easy. Thanks a lot for sharing it with us. I was wondering if you could write down the measurements used in this project. I'd really appreciate that, Margaret.

    Very cute idea for a pin cushion but we missed a couple of things because it was out of the camera view. Love you you tubes. What is emory and what you are getting to fill the inside?

    loved the video. But on your next video could you be more specific on where to sew it on? It was a little confusing and hard to see. it is a very pretty pin coustion and i am looking forward to making it.

      Peeps Peeps Peeps Peeps, thank you so much for commenting! Yes, I will try harder with my next video to be more specific as to where I am stitching. One viewer asked that I tape at my sewing machine so she could see, which is something I will try to do. Yes, it is possible to sew this by hand! Thanks so much for watching and for commenting!!

    Lovely! ! Couple questions:
    -how do you sew the buttons on after the filling is in?
    -is it ok to use all emery? Or should you mix walnut shells and emery?
    Thank you!

      Joy Paul Joy, it would be fine to use all emery. Just keep in mind the weight and the amount of emery needed. Emery can also be expensive and hard to find. If you know of a place that has it PLEASE let me know! A pin cushion completely filled with emery would be great! I would love to see pictures of your pin cushion when done!

      Joy Paul Joy, I forgot to answer your other question. To sew the button I just used a large needle, but make certain you check the button and the needle will go through. A milliners needle would work perfect! I made a bunch of these for Christmas presents, I happen to have my grandmother's button box so I made one up for each of my sisters and used our grandmother's buttons! I think they will be thrilled, at least I hope they will!

      Margaret Leuwen Quilting I have a button box that I inherited from my mother-in-law, who also inherited it from a neighbor. There are some very old buttons in there! I love to find projects to use them in. :-)
