My plant gets about a half gallon every 3 weeks. Sometimes if I see it droopin, Ill water it a day or 3 early.😊 My plant is about 60 years old and probly 5.5ft or so. It was my Aunts before She passed away and it was given to me to care for, last Summer. I lost track of watering once this Winter and realized it had been 1 and 1/2 months since its last drink. The trunk had become more knotty looking and had deeper cracking appearance in the foot but survived the ordeal very nicely otherwise. It was heartwarming to see plenty of new growth over the Winter, especially more recently with the 4-6 inches of new light green crown😍
My trick for growing plants is completely opposite to what everyone does. First, I use mostly all ceramic pots and I caulk the drain holes closed. Second, I make sure it’s plenty big and deep enough, and I pack the soil that’ll be under the plant as tight as possible. Then I’ll place the plant, and pack soil around the roots as tight as possible. This gives much more room for the roots to grow, and it also gives the roots a much better contact with the soil (nutrients) which will cause the plants to have a much smaller root mass, so it’ll give you at least 3x the amount of time before they need repotting. And because there’s no drainage and the soil is so tight, the amount of water required is only about 5% of what you’d normally use. The trick is to simply not overwater them.
I just got one a few days ago not watered it yet but it’s already dropping and idk why? Should I replant it in my own soul even tho it’s not been two weeks? We mix our soil the same way and I have the same soil as well I was goin to repot into the same pot but it looks like some roots are coming out so maybe dropping from root bound ugh I love it and I don’t want it to die help please
If you see roots coming out then pop the plant out like the root ball and check. If you see mostly roots no soil then you need to repot it with a slightly bigger pot. Is the soil dry or moist? If it’s dry then you can replant only if it’s root bound. If it’s not root bound and dry then give it some water. I’m honestly not good with plants, life happened and I somehow slowly killed them all. I just got to a point where I didn’t wanna take care of plants anymore. It’s just one less thing to worry about. Maybe when I’m older I’ll have a lot of plants. Who knows! So do you plant check check if root bound then see if soil is dry or moist ect. I hope that helps!
I am going to not water my rescued ponytail palm. The roots were exposed because it had fallen over. I repotred it out of the store soil and noticed it was heavy. You are on to something. I never thought about the density of soil for indoors vs. outdoors. I put it in a lightly damp mix and cut the leaves back. I won't water until it's completely dry. Thanks for the post. It was really helpful.
Yes all my plants are planted in this coco peat fiber stuff from the store and it just holds water!!! I will be repotting my plants in a video soon they are suffering! Your welcome and Thank you for the comment that meant a lot! Cheers! :) Good luck my friend!
Awesome Video! I'm going to repot my pony tail palm today!!!! I keep it in my new Pop Up Green House.. Hope it's not too humid in there for it.. Anyway! I think you're cute! ; ) Please enjoy your day! : ) Thank You!
Sounds like its over watered? Also if you have bugs try this - Homemade dish soap spray - Soap will suffocate mealybugs. Combine 1 tablespoon of dish soap with a quart of water and spray down your plant. Test the spray on one leaf before applying to the rest, and repeat every few days as needed.
My leaves have drooped and the leaves turned translucent. The soil feels dry even though I thought it was overwatered by my hubby. Wondering how to fix I may report
@@staciewright6100 myeah It’s was rotten all the way up (1,30 m tall) so i cut one inch below the lowest leaves and put it in water and pray that it roots. So far more leaves are Browning and dying and baby ones are growing so… Idk… i am not optimistic but so sad

Just let it dry out as long as possible! I have learned once it’s to late it’s to late! Sometimes you can’t see the damages but the damage is done!

Pleaaaaseeee where cand I send you pics of my beaucarnea I’m desperate it’s dying and I need advice
Sorry I don't reply fast enough. Im not used to getting comments so its kinda weird in a good way! It is most likely overwatering if it happened fast.
