Not a new book, but the best fantasy novel i read last year was a trilogy. The Kingpriest Trilogy. The best non-Weis/Hickman Dragonlance books I've ever read and one of the best trilogies I've ever read, period. Dragonlance is often aimed at a young adult audience, where this was a gritty grown-up version instead and expertly written. Cheers!
For me the best book or books because he released 2 in 2023 is the Hanuvar Chronicles by Howard Andrew Jones. Book 1 is Lord of a Shattered Land and book 2 is The City of Marble and Blood.... Definitely check them out 👍🏻.
I'm generally not too current as to read books the year they drop, but I made an exception for the Edan trilogy (all three were already written and self published) by Philip Chase, a really good classic fantasy throwback with modern touches - and dragons - I was really pleased with it. But we might as well recommend any really good book no matter the age, and I loved the Last Unicorn by Peter S. Beagle, A Monster Calls by Patrick Ness, both The Invention of Hugo Cabret and Wonderstruck by Brian Selznick, Piranesi By Susanna Clarke and The Adventures of Pinocchio by Carlo Collodi

I’ve heard of the Kingpriest series but haven’t tried it. Guess I’ll need to add it to my list then!
